Got all three so far this week.

Was sick and off the bike last week, really had looked forward to riding this week. But a series of storms is blowing in the first part of this week - today, it's in the 40's (moderately cold, not horrible, I know), pouring rain, and wind steady at near 20mph and gusting to about 40. Not a commute day.:notamused:

I HOPE the forecast is good for tomorrow, only rain. Can't ride much over the holiday, since I have kids home from college and time with them is precious.

There's always next week. And I may in fact graduate to toleration of all three weather factors, since my alternative is an hour or so on, get ready, THE TRAINER [noooooo!!!!].:eek:

I can live with the cold, (I'll be the only one cycling to work in NYC mid winter) The wind can be tough if you are riding straight into it but does build your pedaling power.

Light rain can be annoying but heavy rain is the worst - I get home and it feels like I walked into the shower fully clothed

Personally, I'll take moderate winds and rain over cold, any day of the week!

That's one reason that I moved to California from Ohio!

Wind and rain is okay !

Similar up here today. 25mph wind, 50 gusts, low 40s for temperature (typically not bad), all coupled with flood level rain. I opted to drive, and I'll pop my bike on the rollers this evening.

i moved to oklahoma from ohio. so far I am not seeing a huge improvement in weather. This week has been in 40's, raining, windy, pouring with HUGE thunderstorms. The other night it was 35 degrees and thunder shook the entire house! I have 1.3 years left on my contract here, will be looking to locate for sure, just hope the housing market improves by then!

It was actually 52 degrees up here when I left my house at 7 AM, but we did have the steady rain and 20+ mph winds. My wife said I was crazy, but I opted to ride most of the way (drove to the Park and Ride so I'd have a bail out option on the way home). It was a surprisingly pleasant ride. The wind was a cross wind about 80% of the way for me and at my back the other 20% and the suburban sprawl took most of the teeth from the cross wind except at intersections.

I rode today in the rain and wind. Little slower than usual riding into the wind, but otherwise not a big deal. It's getting started that is the hard part. Once you are out and pedaling it's no big deal.

Anything but wind.

I was worried about the gusty side winds. With my paniers I've felt like I was getting blown off the road, and that was with less wind than today. I rode yesterday when it was just rain, so I drove today and will ride again tomorrow when it's supposed to be back to just rain.

I think 40s is plenty warm, I don't have any trouble with temperatures. I sweat under my rain gear anyway. A little warmer and I would be better off riding in just swim shorts. I do always carry a towel with me, after reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

I for one prefer riding in the cold (no more than freezing though) and I have no problem dealing with the wind. I kinda look at it as a challenge. Especially when the wind is a good 20-25mph. Sure did make some of my climbing tough the other day.

I really don't mind the rain, but it makes your bike and you filthy. Coupled with cold or wind it becomes miserable...for me. It seems to kick in the arthritis pain, so I try to avoid the wet.

I have recently purchased new cold weather gear, and decided to ride to work last Friday when the temp was 29 in the morning. I did okay for the most part, but I was a little achy that night. I had a cramp in my right hamstring but after drinking a lot of water and eating some e-caps it went away.

Fenders.

You'll still get soaked from the rain falling from the sky. That's unavoidable. But you won't get covered in black cruddy street spray full of who-knows-what foulness from the pavement.

In order, I'd be happier with: cold, wind, rain, a root canal.

Maybe a root canal is less painful than cycling in the rain. I'm not really sure on this one.

I pick rain and snow. I can handle both. In third place is wind.

I enjoy all three elements.. I'm use to hiking muddy trails in the rain, so by comparison, cycling on cold, rainy, windy days is a breeze.

I can handle the cold and the wind. Rain by itself is annoying, but combined with either or both... just plain SUCKS. Even warm rain and wind can be a problem, as around here that usually means a T-storm.

Been out in all three of them, it's all good. I would rather ride in any (or all) combination of them, than have to drive.
And yes, I carry a towel, the largest camp towel I could find.

I drove to Corvallis last nite for a bike repair class, and in the dark the wind (my, my the wind!) and rain convinced me that riding in it today would have been foolish. So, two days more off - all last week sick, then weathered out the last two.

I know that I could have handled the weather - it was actually quite warm today. But with all the weather factors, and looking at it through a windshield yesterday evening, it made sense to drive in.

Tomorrow, though, is supposed to be warm (about 50) and not nearly as windy (gusts to 20). Looking forward to being reunited with the bike. However, I have to go in really, really early, since the kids will be getting home from the big city and I treasure my time with them and want to get away from the plant early on so I can maximize that treasured time.

Boy, to finally get back on the bike.........

I rode Monday - the winds were steady at 15-20MPH, but very few gusts. Today, the gusts were close to 50MPH, and I ride a very busy street that would have a cross wind, so I drove today. Back on the bike tomorrow; the gusts will have died down.

I had to drive to Eugene this morning and it was actually a lot drier there, than in Portland. The MUP I usually ride was super flooded when I came home today. I realized I need to have a better alternate route planned out. Rain and cold don't bother me at all. Wind can be good if it blows in the right way. My biggest irritation is the flooding and having to change my router.

I've had two root canal procedure, and they really aren't that bad except for the smell. I've had far worse things done to my teeth. I have had rides that definitely produced more misery, near freezing heavy rain or heavy snow just above freezing is usually involved.

Have said if often... would prefer our cold, dry, and windy winters over the dismal wet winters of the PNW.

Although our winter days are very short we get a lot of sunshine and having lived in areas where winter is nothing by endless overcast days know I need to see the sun pretty regularly.

Have spent a good amount of time in PDX over the past 2 winters and found the dampness and low temperatures are more chilling than our sub zero winter days.

If it was not for the most beautiful woman in the world (my wife) Portland winters would be unbearable.
