Commuting Fringe Benefit...

When I got home tonight, my wife was baking pecan pies...

One of them had a messed up crust So she said I could have a piece. Man o man, I pounded a large piece with some whipped cream and some coffee.

I love commuting, but I love her more....

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

You know I'd send you a piece if it was as good as it was when I had some. Still warm little pat of butter, whipped cream and some chocolate coffee that one of my Swedish colleagues gave me...YUUUUUUUUM.

I'm not exactly sure how commuting by bike made this possible, but who cares I do love me some pie!

THERE WILL BE PIE!

Ex makes a good one. Seriously good. Anyway

What's on the Cavanaugh nee' Wellman menu. . .
  • Turkey (one brined, one smoked)
  • Potato Filling (you Penna Dutch types know what I'm talkin' bout)
  • Succotash
  • Jellied cranberries
  • The Ubiquitous Green Been casserole (tweaked by me)
  • Pecan Pie
  • Maple Walnut Cake
  • Pumpkin Bars

Crikey. I still need sour cream and celery.

Okay I guess I could muscle down one more small piece! Even though my wife is not liking this because "The crust just sucks and the filling is too runny..." She was hating on me for taking pictures of it...

Is anyone else getting this? I don't know why she is so frustrated. Looks fine to me, and tastes yummy good. It's not like Better Homes and Gardens is going to come showcase her darn pies.

But, she's doing the pumpkin pies tomorrow. She's cheating on it though. Bought ready made crust for those.

I didn't want to brew any coffee, but there it is. It's some really good Swedish Chocolate stuff. Awesome!

So it looks like a long ride on Friday to burn off all the calories.

One hint... a little melted butter on top brings out the sweetness of the filling.

Mmmm- I love food. Especially when it isn't the powdered type that tastes like bananas.

Well, I didn't eat much for lunch today. The standard 24 almonds, protein shake and an apple.

After my 13 mile commute home...which I had to get a move on because it was trying to rain on me. Hot pecan pie hit the spot. If I didn't have to take my son to wrestling practice, I probably would have taken a short nap too.

Bikes: quite a few

Looks yummm. My wife bakes too and even prototypes for certain events. Eating prototypes = yum.

Making me look forward to Thanksgiving pies tomorrow. Yum.

Now you know when she leaves the room, open the oven and push the crust around to ruin it while it is still soft. Then when it's done baking she'll say "oh no, the crust got messed up, guess you'll have to eat it honey"

Does she watch Martha Stewart shows? That has some pretty deep implications for some women. We, us men that is, appreciate the basics much more than some of the other sex.

The one we have is proprietary (in that I'm not allowed to see it) but this one is. . . similar:

https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/p...ipe/index.html

Also can buy "mixes" and whatnot. November issue of Southern Living has some interesting things, too.
