Had a nice ride this morning. Barely noticed any wind and the sun creeping out although it was pretty cold.
|
Sheesh. The personal time trialers are out this week. Yesterday I noticed a roadie kinda far behind me but blowing stop signs and gradually getting closer. I diverted from the MUP onto a parallel street, slowed down, then at the next cross street I waited for him to go by on the MUP, and came out behind him. :o Eventually he figured out I was back there and spun up from 17MPH to 24MPH (by my computer). :D I stayed with him until we parted ways about 3 miles later. He didn't maintain 24 for long.
This morning, same sort of thing, except this kid was on an older road bike and couldn't go as fast as yesterday's roadie. 18MPH tops. We split up, and I was at a red light and he came up behind me. I took the faster route there. I turned to say hi and he completely blew off the red light. I waited for the green then reeled him in on the hill after the light. Fast ride today. *giggle* |
I am getting spoiled. Remind me of this later when I am complaining about how hot or cold it is. Another very nice ride. Big difference in stops, almost never had to stop at lights and the stop signs were desereted, traffic was very light today. Difference in stopped time saved me about 10 min. Probably still stopped more than on my other route, but this one is much more fun.

back on the bike after two days in our Charlotte office. Nice commute although I was a little heavy since I had my laptop and other items I took with me on the trip - plus my lunch weighed about 3-4 pounds with all the fruit and veggies!
|
My eyeballs suffered through about 100 tiny bugs this morning. I ate another 100... There was a storm passing through on my distant right with lighting coming down but no dark clouds were in my area. I saw another bicycle commuter jump on his mountain bike at the park and ride too. Good to see someone else doing the same thing.

Holiday season starts to kick in ... at least over here.
Less morons on the street, but still a few. It's astonishing to see this kilometer-long queue of cars waiting for their turn in the roundabout on the other side of the road each and every morning. Each of them solo behind the wheel. Come out on your bike and take a deep breath of the exhaust-laden air my sisters and brethren... See you on the way home! |
Had another person intentionally pull to the curb last night.
He's approached a light, stopped and then made this intentional move about three feet to the right. I was laughing to myself as I went by on the left. Dropped a few choice words in his window of course. I made it through that light - he didn't, which was probably what he was pissed about in the first place. ------- Saw a bunch of people in bikes this morning, including someone who looked like a commuter as soon as I left my house, which was shocking. Sadly, everyone else was on the sidewalk. Ok, I'll excuse the dad riding with daughter on the heavy arterial (saw them yesterday as well), but wish everyone else would get on the road. |
nice riding this morning with the sun and all...i beat the storm riding home last night which was great because i didn't really want to dry my shoes again
getting anxious to ride some new roads... |
Got buzzed by a big yellow school bus this morning. WTF?! Its June. The bus was empty. Why in the world an empty school bus was out at 7:00 am during the summer, and why in hell its driver could not move over a couple feet are beyond me.
Other than that, a perfectly nice commute. |
Last night's commute was awesome. I was really energized and was making fantastic time. I had a wierd incident with something caught up in my spokes, but that's the topic of another thread. I made the commute at an average speed of 31.42kph, a new record for me.

These days any dry ride is a great ride :)
|
Nice ride this morning. That is all...
|
Great ride in today - 60 degrees and dry.

Nice ride. I bit hot. The air above the pavement was all wavey/mirage-like from the sun.
I was slowing down/semi-stopping at a stop sign and a cyclist wooshed by me. I think that was the first time it has ever happened. I needed to push a bit to keep up with him for the next few blocks until he turned off. He was wearing a Discovery Channel jersey. That's the second time I saw one of those jerseys... I wonder where they are from. Otherwise, quiet commute. |
Nice ride in on the single speed. Go figure. I had no desire to take the roadie. :p
Today was bike to work day. I think I saw something like 100-200 other riders. Felt like I was on a disorganized organized ride. Unfortunately, I woke up an hr late to recover from yesterday and did not have time to stop at the feeding stations. I think I will add a cheap folding tire to my repair kit I take to work. 2 tire failures in a year is 2 to many. Now if I can find a cheap folding tire.... |
Made it home last night while avoiding some storms. Commute this morning was peaceful and flat-free.

Another good one, cool and dry with temps in the low 70's. I've been adding miles by crossing the river at the Memorial instead of the 14th St. bridge then coming down West Potomac Park along with the many roadies who use it for training. Since installing a new computer a couple of weeks ago I discovered that my avg. weekly mileage has suffered recently, now I'm working more to keep it nearer the 100 miles a week I used to average (so far the best I've done is low 90's). I've also noticed that, probably as a result of increased mileage, my knees are a little sore. I'm concentrating on more spinning and icing them and using muscle rubs in the evening as a way of keeping them healthy. My commuting will likely be my only form of training this year so it's got to count.

Ride in was great. maybe 65-68*F, just a bit humid. Fine once I got moving. Had a heavy load this morning since I was changing out some of my office supplies like towels, shoes, etc. Had to pry-bar my panniers shut. The load was barely noticeable except for the tough hills I have.

Bike to work Day in Denver -
Saw about 50 other commuters and tried out a new route. The new route is junk - I ran over a huge piece of glass near Oxford in Sheridan and got an insta-flat. Tube I had with me turned out to be a dud. I was on my cross-bike and had many offers for help from roadies(?) of all people :P The City of Sheridan needs to get their act together and sweep their ****-ass streets. Pros- I was near a lightrail station and took that the rest of the way to work. Only made it 9 miles (:() on my bike Cons - Didn't get to finish the rest of my commute to work before I ride home in the 90 degree temps this afternoon. |
Nice day, nice ride in to work. Nothing note worthy to report. Oh I did see another cyclist off in the distance. Around here where the transportation system seems unfriendly to bikers I rarely see bicycles on the road; except children, much less commuters.
|
Took the direct route in, rode the fixed gear, wore office clothes on the bike. Probably nothing geekier than middle-aged desk jockey on an old fixed conversion with dork bands on his pant cuffs.
Saw a guy on a beautiful Rivendell Quickbeam this morning. That might be the perfect Sacramento commute machine. Gorgeous. |
My wife got back from her business trip, so for the first time in 2 weeks we rode in together. Last night I surprised her with a new bike for her birthday, which she ended up riding to work this morning because her normal commuter had a rear flat. She said that her seat was a bit low, but she can fix that before she heads home tonight.

Bike to work day! TONS of other cyclists out... maybe some of them will do it more often... who knows.
Guess we'll see... the number of bike commuters around Denver has been steadily climbing as gas prices rise... been doing it for 3 years now and seeing more and more cyclists all the time. |
Drove to work. I had intended to ride but came across 2 BikeNinjas and another weaver/wrong way rider...at 430 am. No way will I get on the path OR the road today. Not happy about it but its one day out of the year and they can keep the MUP for now. DJ, you saw how many?! Kripes! No thank you! I guess I'll get used to it but didn't feel like risking a head on in an underpass so early in the morning.
Hope everyone else had fun. |
Nice morning. Managed to get the kids to camp dropoff JUST as the bus was about to leave, then rode a nice 12 miles to the office. Sunny and 75 degrees, light haze. Nice day.
