had a good ride in this morning, it was sunny and fairly warm
an impatient driver did speed around to pass me and then stopped at the red light and she pulled over to the side of the road obstructing my path...ggrrrrr...i guess i should expect people to be driving faster and more erratically due to the nice weather |
Warm, about 60. I rode my hybrid for the first time since December- I finally got my recalled Shimano cranks replaced and got the bike back Saturday. It was also sporting new fenders and Origin8 Space Bar handlebars. It flew along pretty well.
|
Upper 30s when I left this morning. Light rain, some moderate side-wind which was unusual. Light traffic, so didn't see many cars. Saw the Bainbridge ferry pull in. I try to beat it since the unloading traffic really messes up the signal timing - but on the other hand I got to see the parade of motorcycles, cars and lots of bikes unloading. Leaving work early today so I can prep a huge Irish meal. So I get to ride home in the middle of the day in what looks to be *gasp* Sunshine!
|
The weather dudes have put out another dense fog advisory for tomorrow. What really sucks about this is that the afternoon weather is beautiful and I'm in a cage going home instead of on my bike!
|
upper 30s tomorrow morning and maybe over 60 at mid-day, cooler and windy for the ride home. if I can figure out the clothing and other personal logistics I might make my first commute to the new office during a real work-day. naturally I have not planned ahead and have absolutely nothing here. whatever I want I'll have to bring with me.
|
I commuted for the first time today, and it was superb! I'm not sure how this evening will go, with significantly increased traffic, but I don't forsee any big problems. I'm a little excited to do this nice 5-mile ride every day (5 miles each way).
|
FYI: when I bike commute I offset my hours to avoid the worst traffic - so I leave at 4:00
SAFE HOME! Assume nothing / expect everything. |
Had a nice ride in today. 60's with little wind. Things are changing now, 15 mph headwinds and rain. Should be interesting ride home. 30 miles and I get to eat supper. Ye-Ha!
|
Nice ride in and because of the good weather I took 3 hours off and rode over to a park and hiked in the woods. It is 81 degrees right now.

SAFE HOME! Assume nothing / expect everything. The Boston area weather is getting downright spring like. Not warm, creepy all-of-a-sudden-it's-summer kind of spring, which we often have, but a slow crawl up the thermometer. In the morning it's still a touch on the cool side- there are even little hidden patches of particularly gnarly snow or ice- but by the afternoon it's getting almost comfy! Nice ride in this morning and a very enjoyable ride home tonight. |

What's your commute?- where to where? Should I look for you on my rides into Boston and back to Newton?

Too nice to go straight home so I dodged a bunch of tipsy people wearing bright green, then followed a messenger dancing around traffic up to Central Park. He turned off and I went into the park and enjoyed the early signs of spring. This is why I ride.

The ride home was nice, even though there was a stiff headwind. I think it was almost 80 degrees.
I caught up to another rider at a light and we rode together for probably a couple miles which was pretty cool. Riding my hybrid again for the commute was sweet. It has index shifting, which my other bike doesn't have, so it's kind of sweet to ride it. I put on the Origin8 Space Bar over the weekend and... well, I didn't tighten up the stem all the way. So by the time I got to work, they were drooping a bit; not so bad that it was obvious they had moved, but I was feeling it in my wrists. I checked the bar before leaving and saw I could lean on it and move it so I tightened it up before setting out. This bike is truly a great commuter. |
buzzman - we moved so now I commute from Maynard to Natick - downhill there - uphill home - UGH

I'm commuting vicariously today through the rest of the week :( due to familial duties !!
Next week may be better :) |

I used to live in Dedham! That's one ROUGH commute you have, especially when it starts getting cold.
Now comes the time when bikers start appearing every where on my commute and I wonder why the seas don't part as I come riding along!- I want to wear a sign that says, "I rode all winter. Get out of my way!" Unfortunately, it earns me no special privileges so I appreciate your comment. To anyone that commuted all winter in a snowy, windy, icy, bitter, salty, sandy, potholed, slushy, slippery, freezing, dark, mess- BRAVO!!!! WE did it! And now it's almost spring! |
I rode a 60-year-old bike to work today :)

Missed the past two days riding due to a cold and sore throat. Was I sick from riding in the rain on Saturday and Sunday with temps about 40 F? Hard to say, but those were miserable rides. My cold was still lingering this morning, but the weather is supposed to be so nice today that I couldn't pass up riding. It's supposed to be sunny and calm with a high near 70 F.
|
It was a foggy ride in 30 F (-1 C). The traffic was light, but in some areas I couldn't tell the difference from cars or street lights. My light was reflecting back, and my glasses appeared steamed, but it was the fog. Somewhat of an annoying feeling. At least it was warm. I also was covered in a film of wet, as was
everything on the bike. Normal for fog. |
OK, I'm in, showered & dressed. Ready for coffee. Had my short protein recovery drink. 50 minutes for 13 miles including lots of stopping for traffic lights. The cagers on this route seem courteous, including the trash truck drivers. bonus. the new shower is great, except that's where I got the feeling back in my toes, ouch! no need to hang my towel because I had to use it as a floor mat too, so everything is buttoned up in my rack bag for the trip home. the wet stuff is in a plastic bag, and the whole bag is in the boiler room. only my outer wear helmet & lights are at my desk - soon to be stowed. left the bike out back where everyone (8) parks. should be safe enough. new cables and housings make the operation of my old steel so much better that I am not swearing at it. there is no doubt in my mind that this bike is the one to use for commuting, not the modified MTB, not the tweaked hybrid, they are both fine, but this is the machine for this particular task. no boss yet, WooHoo! :thumb:

A wonderful morning to ride to work. First time since fall. Somebody moved around the pot holes over the winter. The mayor had them paint a white lines on one of my worst roads and called it a bike lane. I really do think it might help. I called and complained many times last year about it. I am going to pretend he did it for me. 50+ degrees, just a great ride.
|
52*F this morning, but after yesterday's best times in and back for the year, was a little slower this morning due to a 15 MPH wind with gust to 30.
|
Commuted today for the first time since the fall. I don't consider myself a bicylce commuter but I have to say the ride was fun. I am hopeful to do more of it when the kids get out of school for the summer and I no longer need to get them off to school.

More signs of spring: more bike commuters.
It's really not fair when you have to pedal hard to go down a hill. |
Gnarly headwind. 40F. Not too bad, but I could have done without the wind.
I'm hearing redwing blackbirds now. A sure sign of spring. |
my bike rode a 50 yr old to work today

You've made my day (night?). I've managed to miss only 3 days of bike commuting this winter due to weather and this was a tough winter up here- but I feel like the Rodney Dangerfield of bikers- "I don't get no respect." People that know me are so used to me biking every where that I don't get quite as much attention for it as I used to- and I used to claim it didn't matter- now I realize it does! So thanks, yes, it is a ROUGH commute- especially when it starts getting cold. But the truth is I love it.

You're coming up on roadwork season, one of the 4 New England seasons: before winter, winter, after winter, roadwork season. My ride in was great today, but I did break down and take BART (train) for a portion of it. I rode around a lot last night and don't want to beat myself into the ground too quickly. |
am commute interrupted by eye exam, so final leg completed w/ dilated pupils and blurry vision. Otherwise fine! No rain which was kind of a shocker.
|
Have ridden in a few times, first since December. Morning ride in is brisk, still around freezing so lots of layers. Ride home in long sleeve jersey and shorts, all the opther stuff jammed into the backpack. Still - it's good to be on the road again.
