Light rain and wet roads this morning, still had a good ride in. Didn't see any other commuters today though :(
This will be my first time doing the commute 4 times in a week, pretty happy about that :D |
Some rain, fairly steady wind and wet roads, now it's feeling more like spring. Only dedicated dog walkers and a jogger or two on the path though. What with the wind and it being Friday I was dragging a bit. Looking forward to getting some real sleep this weekend, and taking some long rides after properly waking up.

Ist time Ive posted on this thread !
finnished work at 0800 this morning (Sat) & decided to ride home on the beach road then home (53ks) as we'd had a cruisey night with no problems (the place allways runs smooth over the w/ends when theres no bosses to interfere;) ) Its a lovely clear morning with only a slight breeze & some frost , started off @22kph but by the time I get to the end of the beach road Im going along @ 26 quite easily , seen a couple of cyclist going the other way ,waves & smiles:D Coming back now there,s more traffic on the road & quite a bit of glass from Fri. night:mad: , just hope my new Armadillos are as good as the LBS man says  Im now warmed up & the ,puter says 28 kph I see a shadow & its another rider come up behind me ,a wellbuild young guy with a nice but well used road bike , he slowed & we chatted a little of how cold it was ect & off he went he was about 100mtrs ahead & I thought I,d make an effort, I pushed up to 35kph with a couple of exta bursts of speed too, but I wasnt gaining on him at all so i droped back to 28-30 & just enjoyed my ride :) When I reached the Mount the cafe' set were out sitting outside of the pavement cafe's & bars having breakfast , very nice too, I was tempted to stop for coffee & a blt sandwidge. A brandy in the coffee would have been nice too ;) , but no I was strong :p I passed by my work again & now I had 10ks to go.I was getting caught up in the port traffic now & had to go back to alert status ,over the harbour bridge, sucked along by some close shave, semi-trailer trucks & a couple of empty loggers , piggybacking their trailers . Take the centre of the lane over the rail bridge so they can't squeeze me on the curb , turn right at the lights & Im out of the truck traffic, 2 significant hills & im home , 63 ks to work & back, made a cup of tea ,egg on toast & Im ready to go & sleep so I can do it all over again to-night  :) |
Beautiful ride in this morning. Sun was shining brightly (almost too brightly even with sunglasses on!) and the temp was just perfect at about 9 degrees C. Traffic was pretty light (as it usually is at 7am) and I made it in pretty good time.

Beautiful sunny, warm day, nice ride.

MI_rider's post caused me to do something I rarely do: clock my avg speed during a commute. And the answer is: 17.1 MPH.
I tried to keep the commute "normal" in all respects even though I knew that Big Brother was clocking me. I felt pretty strong today in spite of the hard 10K I ran Saturday and the killer MTB hill climb I did yesterday. The lights killed me today, though. I lost 0.5 MPH through San Jose alone with its unending string of traffic lights. |
I still have not been able to commute. Rain, Rain, Rain...all week long!!!
|
Tough ride in this morning. Beautiful weather, but my legs just haven't been working right since taking a week off the bike for vacation. One of my slowest rides this year. Oh well, I must try to be patient and enjoy the weather. :)
|
Just finished a 180 mile jaunt across the State of Maine this past weekend. I was on my tandem with my fiancee and we pushed quite hard. I thought I was ok until I took off on my recumbent for work today. The left knee hurt a tad bit, so had to take it easy. Still beat driving the car.
|
Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeautiful! 68 degrees F, sun shining, birds chirping, nice warm breeze, leaves rustling on shaded city streets. It's days like today that make me love to ride....
|
Beautiful day here in the PNW, blue sky's streaked with high thin clouds. T-Shirt warmth with near 80's predicted. I was a bit beat after doing a weekend of long ride, and even with a tiny tailwind made a pretty slow journey in. No complaints though taking a leisurely ride in on a glorious Monday morning is the next best thing to playing hooky ;)
|
Dead legs this morning, probably from my long run this weekend. Sometimes I forget how much running takes out of you. Anyway, calm and warm morning with lots of commuters out on the bike trail. Going to be blazingly hot on the way home tonight. Summer has finally arrived in the Big Tomato.
|
What a great way to start the week; clear, blue sky and 50F/10C to 60F/16C. Felt really strong after 3 days off. Now if I could just figure out which pedal has a squeek when I power uphill, life would be perfect.

Aha, I found the key to a good commute. Throw away the damned bike computer. :) I didn't hook mine up on the ride home, and I had one of the best rides this month. Not that I rode slowly; I hammered all the way home, but I didn't get hung up about my speed. It was probably the fastest ride home in a while, though, and I felt great!
The only sour point was the damned car who didn't look when coming off a side street and missed my wheel by inches. This despite the fact that I yelled (loudly) when I saw him coming down the side street. I hit the brakes, turned around and started yelling and waving to get him/her to stop, but he/she just drove on, oblivious. Looking at the map, I see that that road leads to a day camp. I'm going to email/call them and make a complaint. Too bad I didn't have time to get a license plate. Tim |
After *****ing yesterday on another thread about the wind, guess what? Today dawned with nary a zephyr, brilliant sunshine and crystal blue skies. And quite warm, too, at around 14 deg C. Even the ominous Tasman Bridge was a bit more enjoyable. The Derwent River was flat calm (the lighting on the bridge at night casts an amazing reflection in calm conditions). Mt Wellington was sharply outlined against the blue. In all, a magnificant day.
And Jean, maybe the squeak is a creak and is coming from your stem, not a pedal. I have a stem that needs another shot of grease because it creaks when I stand to pedal uphill. R |
Warm ride home, finally. Still not hot, though. I think I once again hit every traffic light SJ has to offer even though traffic seemed lighter than normal. This could be b/c schools are out for the summer.

I haven't posted anything for a while but tonight I started to ride home (30 miles one route and 34 the other way) I am going to begin by doing it just MWF I di very well the last time I rode the route (30 m 49k)I was beat ( a lot of climbing) but it is the fastest way home it took me 3 1/2 hours. I came up through the north end of Seattle into Mountlake Terrace and Lynwood where I picked up the Interurban Trail it was empty (as always) I actually got up to 26 MPH for about 1 1/2 miles. I usually don't take the trail but my other fast way home was on hwy 99 which had a huge shoulder all the way into Everett the took it away for side walks, no shoulder and the speed limit is 50 it forces you up on the side walk which sucks. But the trail is cool it goes through a couple of wetland areas very therapeutic. I did 30.88 m (49.69k) 2:33:06

Originally posted by Rowan After *****ing yesterday on another thread about the wind, guess what? Today dawned with nary a zephyr, brilliant sunshine and crystal blue skies. And quite warm, too, at around 14 deg C. Got away late last night - was held up for long enough to see a blood-red Moonrise out of the south pacific. This is officially the most amazing thing I've seen on this commute since I started it. The moon gradually lost it's colour as it rose into the sky, but my last abiding memory was seeing the now pale orange moon reflecting off the shimmering ocean as I turned off the Esplanade in Broadbeach. This is something I won't forget in a hurry. |
Hi Folks,
Had a terrific commute. The weather here has been gorgeous and this morning was just right. I steamed into work and felt as though I could have kept going all day. Cheers, Ed |
Nice day, 48 degrees, no wind and overcast. I rode the road bike today, no fenders, I ended up taking the long way to work, my ride milage was 29 miles and my average was 19.1, it's forcasted to be a nice day in the upper 70's, ya never know haw long it take me to get home on a day like this.

It's been a great week so far. Morning rides have been nice and cool but it has been HOT in the afternoons. The temp yesterday afternoon was in the mid 90's with a heat index of right around 100. I didn't really mind it though on the right home. It seemed the more I sweat he better I felt.

Great ride in this morning. The temperature was about perfect in the low 60's this morning. It makes it so I can ride hard but not be totally drenched when I get to work.
The schools are also finally out so the traffic was lighter. |
Had to drop my car off for 30K service (cars certainly are a necessary evil). I threw in my bent so I could pedal the 7 miles to work. I had forgotten how nasty this route is. No shoulder and cars blasting by at 50-60 mph. I think I will catch a shuttle back to my car....
Other than that, temps were in the mid-50s F and nothing but blue sky. A wonderful day for a ride. |
A beautiful morning :) To amuse myself I decided to compare the ratio of bike commuters to roadkill squirrels on my route in. Despite the gorgeous weather it was looking bleak for bike commuters until two fellow cyclists tipped the scales to bikes 6 - dead squirrels 4. I know statistics are meaningless but I did notice that 100% of the dead squirrels were not wearing helmets, they were also all in the bike lane

Had a great ride in this morning, left early and witnessed a beautiful sunrise over Lake Ontario from the Lakeshore Trail. No roadkill on the trail, and no fresh stuff on the roads - A beautiful day for everyone! |
