Steady rain and temps hovering at 62 F/16.7 C. I am sure glad I mounted some lights on my bike last night....the visibility was poor with this rain and some fog, so I am sure it would have otherwise been hard to see me.

Very nice commute this morning. About 70 F. Weather report said morning thunderstorms for Atlanta, but it was sunny all the way. Pollution index low. Moderate traffic except for one I-20 bridge.
|
Good commute, nothing out of the ordinary. A little cooler than it has been though for this time of the year, only about 61F with a 10mph wind from the West. Made it up a couple of the hills without shifting down as much as a few weeks ago. I can tell the 100 miles this week is making me stronger.

Tried to get my wife to ride in with me today. She declined. Too bad for her!

Actually got some nice weather today. It was actually really nice. Cool and a slight breeze. The trip home looks to be a good one too. Clear skys and a high in the low 80's.

I took care of some business on my mtb today. Man, it was like I was dragging a plow. The gears were terrible, the tires were terrible, and I had to stop and rest because I drank too much water and upset my stomach. That took 45 minutes to recover from. I put in 20 miles, going to the trail from my house, about a mile through town. I did about 7 miles to the trail head that I got off to go to the Post Office. It was about 3 miles or so to the bank, and back to the trail and back home.
Geez, that was a terrible ride in terms of comfort, and effort required. But, I somehow made it. The Bianchi does not need to worry about getting another day off when I decide to commute about town to take care of some business and get a little riding time to boot. Nonetheless, I feel pretty good after a harder than usual workout. |
took another spill today, so some nasty road rash, although again I'm thanking my lucky stars there were no cars around or I would have been a goner
apart from that a nice ride today! |
Morning everyone, this is my first day back from vacation, I had a nice ride in to work this morning, the weather was great, I did notice that it's getting dark at 5:00 am, Winter is on the way. Over vacation I fllipped the 8000 mile mark so far this year, that was a great feeling, I'm shooting for 15,000 for the year. If the weather holds up I just may do it.

Well the problems with this morning's commute began a day or so ago on Alpe d'Huez. SBS in Australia showed the last three hours of the stage live which didn't finish until 1.30am. The four and a half hour planned sleep got trashed by sunshine of my life (18 month old daughter) waking at 4.00am. That was Monday morning.
Last night the wind blew big time and woke sunshine once more about 4.00am requiring warm milk and much parental loving. Finally got her back to sleep, rolled over for a little snooze time and... running 50 minutes late. Run round like a headless chook, set the video for TdF highlights and commuting buddy arrives. Whew just made it. Walk gingerly down the front stairs as wind was accompanied by several large buckets of rain overnight. Get to the bike and....flat $#%@% tire. First commandment of wet weather commuting thou shalt not use thy front brake. Second commandment. Leave before 7.45am or face the wrath of the school buses. Wet and late we head off to face the onslaught of peak hour. Apart from the increase in the numbers of people with maniacal tendencies, riding in the rain this morning was pretty nice. |
1600hr start, uneventfull ride in exept for some f/witt sounding his horn at me 'cos he didnt think I was far enough in the gutter for his liking , gave him a freindly one finger wave !
Left work at mid night & decided to do a 50k loop home as I've been pretty slack lately :( When I get to the part of the sea front were theres no houses , just paddocks , the temp. realy plunges , frost forming on the ground ! Ive got a pair of full leather gloves on but my hands are starting to freeze & my fingers get very stiff & sore , nice night though , no wind, no cloud cover ,stars & just off full moon shining brightly . The surf crashing on to the beach .turn at the end of the road & head back ,my feet are the next victim of the cold . As I reach the built up area I can feel the temp rise :) As I aproach the bridge there are 2 chemical plants, because of the conditions the smoke from their tall stacks is droping down and drifting across the ground , the fumes nearly floor me & I feel like vomiting ,disgusting !! .Clean , green New Zealand , my arse !! Arrive home just after 0200 hrs still feeling a bit sick , 53 ks home , 63 all up ,Cup of tea & off to bed !! |
The weather here was nice this morning, with sunshine instead of the predicted clouds. I got on the bicycle, and my legs immediately protested. Saturday, a planned fun time on the coast was detoured by the weather forcast, so my wife and I hiked in the Cascades, 14 miles and 4000+ foot elevation. So my quads just were not there this morning. But I was able to out-accellerate a bus for a few blocks (needed to stay ahead to its next stop). The afternoon commute felt better, and my legs are getting back to normal now. Beautiful hike Saturday though, from Moultnomah Falls to the top of Larch Mountain.

Left the house this morning in a thick fog, I had the night ride burning on both ends. Traffic was heavier than normal, overall the ride was quiet and uneventful, I had to take the long way in to work to avoid a metal bridge that I'm sure was wet from the fog. Tose babies can turn you into hamburg in a heart beat when wet. It's forcasted to clear up for the afternoon so the ride home should be nice.
Jamie65, look at the bright side, you did the commute, you could have fallen to the weak side and drove the car. |
Had a nice ride in this morning. I said good morning to a gentleman who I pass occasionally, and he said "I really love your energy. I'm 54 years old and every time I see you I think about that. I'd love to race you but I'm f$%^ing 54 years old." Made me smile this morning as I took off down the hill in front of him. I bet he's in better shape than he thinks he is, cause he's often out riding in the morning when I'm on my way to work. He could probably win a race against a lot of people younger than him!
All in all, an enjoyable ride. Forecast calls for rain and wind this aft, but we'll see! |
Good commute this morning. 71F and cloudy. No a lot of traffic until I got to the edge of downtown. Road construction on MLK and I-75 nudged me onto an alternate route, but once I moved onto Decatur Street it was smooth sailing.

Heat wave hit us yesterday. Today's highs are somewhere around 30C / 85F. I will not complain, we only have few days like this in a year.
Also, this is my 300th post. Yay! --J |
Great ride in today took my time and relaxed. Getting a bit warmer though. Should be a good week in to ride. Not supposed to rain all week.

Got the replacement (for the stolen commuter) going this a.m.
and found the computer didn't work. I'm putting the computer from the stolen bike on this one once the parts come in - I was hoping to get an idea if this was faster than the other bike or not. It FEELS faster though. Maybe because I rode it the last two days with the knobbies on and with the slicks it just seems speedier and the other commuter is just receding into memory now. Nice day, sunny, beautiful - lots of other commuters out - even a guy on a recumbent. There was a guy on a road bike at the start of the commute who looked just like a guy I used to work with but I'm pretty sure it wasn't him. |
Hot but fun :)

My buddy had a huge surge of energy this morning and it took all I had to hang onto his wheel. We started at 19.5 mph and slowly picked up the pace. We passed a tandem that was doing 23mph, picked up a tailwind, and then John dropped the hammer and all of a sudden we're doing 26. Got to the end of the bike trail to head into midtown and I check my computer: we'd averaged almost 22mph! That's faster than I rode the bike portion of my last triathlon. Sheesh. That's what I get for riding with a former Cat 1 racer. :)

Today was my first day back to work after a week long (non-biking) vacation. Lot's of posts to catch up on ;) Great weather this morning absolutely ideal-- scattered thin clouds, low 70's just perfect. I'd been having persistent flat tires the week before I left, so I took the bike to REI on Monday. The very competent wrench there found a thin sliver of metal in the tire. He adjusted the brakes and the wheel alignment as well, and the bike is feeling great. Glad to be back on the bike, and am looking forward to making up for the last week.

I rocketed home today. I was refreshed from a day's rest after a 50-mile ride Sunday coupled with a pretty demanding swim. I made it home in almost exactly one hour, which is 10-15 minutes faster than normal. I took the route home that contains a pretty nasty hill but I was able to fly right over it.
Tomorrow I'll ride in again and I'm looking forward to it already. |
Took a country lane route, having got bored of the dual-carriageway. Nice ride until I got into Canterbury, where I ended up walking the bike to get through the traffic...

Near close call on the ride home yesterday. I was climbing up one of the hills and I saw a car backing out of the driveway. Sure enough he didn't see me and backed right out in front of me. I stopped and was sitting there on the bike when the guy realized what he had done and he stopped backing up. The best part was after he stopped he rolled down the passenger side window and apologized. He then pulled back into the driveway and let me pass. Other than that the commuting rides have been going great! I should have started doing this years ago!

Had another good ride in this morning. The weather is kind of damp, but we need rain, so I'm not complaining. Had a talk with the older gentleman along my route again, and introduced ourselves. He seems like a nice guy.
Got a bit wet on the ride home yesterday night (actually very wet) but I missed the heavy rain which started minutes after I got home. |
Good commute in. I had a rest yesterday as was off on Monday after what was like a severe hay fever attack (I don't suffer from it but pollen counts have been v high)
Got overtaken by two guys coming down the hill into Cramond, and they didn't even say hi! I knew the type, they ride like hell to catch and pass you but then run out of steam coming up hills. Anyway, after getting held up at lights i was maybe 150 yds behind, but a long gradual climb meant I passed them both at the top, and this time I dropped them both like an old girlfriend :D I did say hi as I went past tho' |
