beautiful weather, got out an hour early, and was extremely bonked nonetheless. Still made it home in ok time, and get to head out for drinks and eats tonight :)

First clear day this week :S

Nice ride down. Some fool of a cat ran out from between cars and almost killed himself as well as me!

On the way back, some lady honked me and passed me on the right lane (St Clair). I caught up behind her at the light, waiting for the left turn. At the next light (Spadina), I stopped next to her. And then got in front of her when it changed to green. I then sat in the middle of the single lane and slowed right on down when making my left turn off that street (Spadina).

I noticed my seat is too low, too tilted and too forward. I put a lot of my weight on my arms. Not that I can't hold myself up with my arms... Need to fix that. Need to strengthen my core?

I'm getting this... cramp when I bike home. It's not the first time. Right side, half way between hip and bottom rib. Sharp pangs when peddling. Sore stomach muscle? Something else? Worth worrying about?

Woke up to some thunder with a little rain. Stepped outside to see what it felt like and I decided to ride the Fuji in today.

A little water was kicked up from the road but not much rain. A good 5 days of commuting this week.

This week was sort of a recovery week. Next week I will be watching my average speed. Trying to keep it above 14.

Thanks for the encouragment! The ride home was a little harder but fun none-the-less. What a great way to end a week and get work off the brain!

Cheers

Did the new routes to and from the new office location today. The new route in is about 18 miles and takes me on urban arterials through Barberton & downtown Akron and into downtown Cuyahoga Falls, while the commute home takes me down into the Cuyahoga Valley National Park then up through mostly country roads to home. I spent a lot of time scoping routes in before I found one that didn't totally suck (big climbs, bad neighborhoods, crappy roads). The ride in was much easier than I expected and the ride home was about what I expected (since 3/4 is over my old route) :)

A storm cell blew through with high winds and rain. Took off after it finished and dodged a few other cells until one hit me a couple miles from home. Nice 30 mph sidewind with horizontal rain pushing me around in traffic. Crossed one street and it was like a whole other world with no wind or rain. Excellent! Finally an interesting ride that did not involve SUVs trying to run me over.

This is kinda weird. I was on vacation this week. Did not get to ride much. Dont have to work till Monday. Ok I am actually kinda worried about me. You guys think it would be werid if I rode to work in the morning and just rode back home? I kinda missed the commute all week.

Ride somewhere else!!!

My commutes have been uneventful for the most part. I had a staff meeting a week ago so since I didn't need anything but a pen and my name badge I rode my Varsinental frankenstein bike with the ape hangers. The lady rode her Breeze. She hasn't ridden it in almost 2 years so when I pulled it out of the shed the tires were flat and there was a thin film of mildew on the seat. I gave it a quick wash and aired up the tires.

We took went on a trial run to get lunch since her bike had been sitting so long. I start hearing a wierd noise...kind of a rub and a rattle. The tire was starting to come off the rim and rub the chainguard. We went home so she could get her other bike and we went to lunch. I got back and put a different tire on her bike. I'll mess with that one another time. I'm not sure if the bead is messed up or I just didn't have it seated properly.

I must say though, that there is something magical about two shiny blue schwinns going down the road with the sun reflecting off of the chrome!

Today I rode to the pharmacy to refill my perscriptions. since my insurance was supposed to be cancelled july first I was expecting to have pay full price. Since one of my medications is $450, The Dr. is trying to get me samples but I still would have needed a week's worth. Finally the idiot's in the office at my job made a mistake in my error and forgot to file the paperwork so it was covered. I rode home with a smile on my face and a tail wind!!

The opposite direction seemed more appropriate this AM. I will go the other way all week next week. 450 a month is crazy.:mad:Did you just retire or something?

Nope, not retired. I'm 25 and working my way through school. My hours got cut at work so I no longer have insurance. I was paying 50% of the premium anyway. I could pay for it out of pocket, but that would be all but 30 of my 2 week paycheck and the coverage changed so it's not worth it.

I graduate next May though and I am sure I'll manage until then.

I had a hard enough time getting through school and did not have any bills medical or otherwise. May will be here before you know it. Good luck.

Thanks. I'm lucky enough to have some great friends and a wonderful family. While they may not be able to help with finances, they are very supportive.

I got new panniers, the kind that attach with giant zip ties (Detours Uptown). I don't like them as much as my old ones, they're smaller and they're just not the same. But that's okay. The ride itself was awesome, though. I wish I could have just kept going for a few miles until the sun came up.

girljen 07-27-08 08:14 PM

The ride home was very nice. It was hot, but there was a patch of fluffy gray cloud cover overhead. It was like someone put up a canopy right over my route. How thoughtful!

Looks like you are the only one working/commuting this Sunday... :thumb:

Cold, windy and wet ride home. Not very nice weather at all.

Also a very odd thing happened; I was approaching a pedestrian crossing, and could see a pedestrian about to cross. I slowed down, in case I needed to stop. They also slowed down whilst walking across(!), until eventually they stopped right in front of me in the middle of the road. I consequently came to a halt a few feet back from the crossing.

The pedestrian turned to me - it was an older woman.
'You have to stop!' she barked at me. 'It's a pedestrian crossing'.
Me:- 'Madam, I am stopped.'
Mad old woman:- 'Only just! You cyclists have to obey the rules of the road as well, you know'.
Me:- 'That's what I am doing, Madam'.

After this little exchange, the mad old woman stomped off, and I continued on my way.

All very odd!

Working Sunday is cool. It's always the mellowest day of my week.

The ride in today was very nice! I wish I could have kept going. We're getting back into perfect riding weather...cool but not cold, light before the sun comes up, no wind...amazing. And it was quiet, too! I love that.

Was a bit tired this morning, Rode a lot this weekend, and rode in a race as well.

Was going to take it easy.

Until...

Another commuter passed me! RAEC TIEM.

He was actually in reall good shape. He was riding a Raliegh, not as old as some of the Fixie-rebuilds I see from the old ten speeds, but not brand new. Most of the time I encounter riders and they either don't try and keep up, or they just fail. This guy was quick. I was actually starting to be thankful when he finally turned off my route 5 miles later.

Oh well. Good to get the heart pumping first thing monday morning.

It was about the same as usual. A little humidity, relatively cool. Will be in the mid 80's today.

jterribili 07-28-08 06:31 AM

nice ride in this morning. should have a more normal week and ride everyday like I am used to. The past two weeks have been really on again, off again for various reasons.

I need to get new pedals - my Forte Campus pedals with my cleats are making very annoying squeaking noises every rotation I make. I think I am going to get bigger platforms that way I can wear anything on my feet I want to.

neilfein 07-28-08 06:42 AM

Foggy and cool. I wish I had put tights on over my bike shorts.

noteon 07-28-08 06:51 AM

Sick three-year-old, so I got a little less than four hours of sleep. Subway today.

77midget 07-28-08 07:06 AM

Yard work and bike maintenance Sat day, bowling and beers with wife and friends sat night, house cleaning all day sunday w/ a 6 mile bagel run on the bike, all on top of a 130 mile week last week (a lot for me)....MY LEGS ARE KILLING!!!

Seriously, I was actually all dressed to drive in, but decided to go for it. It was a bit painful, but I made it in decent time. It is a nice morning out, and the roads were dry enough after the deluge last night that there was no tire spray

The selling point on riding w/ the pain was that I cannot bike-commute Wed or thursday since I need to be at other facilities one day, and NY on another day, so that is a car day. Tomorrow, I might be able to do it but I also have a meeting at another building that day.

RazorWind 07-28-08 07:08 AM

The ride in seemed harder than usual this morning, but was otherwise uneventful.

Then, I got here, took a shower and realized... ****. I forgot to bring a shirt. Quick decision: Just an undershirt, or put my jersey back on?

So, I'm rocking the wickedly awesome safety yellow today.
