Good ride in this morning despite a headwind all the way. It was overcast which really helps visibility during the sunrise.
|
The ride home yesterday was great! Sunny skies rather than thunderstorms; more people on the trail than I've ever seen before on a weekday. (Spring break!)
I smoked past several recreational riders, which was good for my ego. Never mind that one of them was six. The ride in this morning was good, too. Cooler (50s rather than 60s); wore a long-sleeved cotton T-shirt. Talked on the phone most of the time, which left me not paying as much attention to the ride itself, which actually seemed to make things go faster. (This morning's ride was on a deserted MUP, so my phone conversation didn't endanger anyone else.) |

I need to switch my sunglass lenses out for something darker, it's too sunny out! :D I got stuck behind a Porsche this morning doing 20 under the limit. When she finally did get out of the way, I had to try and sprint uphill with about 20 angry cars behind me. Boooo!

daylight savings might be catching up, this is 2-3 days now w/o turning the headlight on either way.

Cruisin' along in Super Fred mode today, dress shoes on the pedals and tie flapping in the wind. I'm going on a group ride after work so I rode the go-fast bike to work. If not for the allergens, the weather would be absolutely perfect.

First commute of the year (yeah, I'm a whimp). New route, new (old) bike, 32 degrees...smooth as budda!
|
I did my first full bike commute to my new job, 33 miles all told door to door. Got here in 2:05 riding time (2:15 actual time door to door) giving me an average of 15.9mph.
Pretty happy with that, though I don't think I'm fit/strong enough for a 5/5 full commute (nor can I afford the extra time it takes, even though it worked out to be only 35 extra minutes). Great ride, my mess. bag isn't so great over long distances with even a reasonable weight in (lunch + tools + clothes) so I'll have to put the rack on, but even at -2 leaving I was very comfortable within 20 mins and had a really good long ride. I'll be riding back tonight, too - have to see how my body fares tomorrow as it's been a good few months since I rode over 50 miles in a day. |
Chilly start today - 12C! I had cold fingers and toes. Or perhaps I'm just soft!
I didn't ride yesterday as I had to carry my viola (haven't worked out how / if I can carry it on the bike safely; if anyone rides with a violin / viola let me know how you do it!). Today I was back on the bike abd just blazed in. Partly to get wamed up, partly becaue I rested yesterday, so was fresh (normally Fridays are a slog...!). I love riding. |
Got into a head-on bike crash with another biker on the way home. Luckily we were both going pretty slow and my face broke my fall. She went down the wrong side of the street sort of (entrance to the north side of the Brooklyn side of the Wburg bridge) heading right into me. I was between a truck and a curb so we kinda bumped into each other. Both fine. Then the truck driver gets out as we were both pulling away and he was like "but but.. you almost hit my truck!"
Yeah, real worried about your truck there, buddy. |
+ !
a little slow going in (against the wind) but free air!! on return, i passed the bus i have been riding (for free too) 2 times at it's stops and waved. felt good! as the wind pushed me home, there was 1 (one) a/h driver who did not share "fairly". will be taking the free bus tomorrow (happy hour - spontanious (sp) socialization...after work). happy friday! t |
Ahh, the ride to work! I live on the outskirts of Taichung, a city in Taiwan, which is home to the most polluting coal fired power plant in the entire world! (YES! We are number 1!) I ride from a relatively pristine mountain valley along a river and into the city. Little oil slicks can progressively be seen upon the surface, shining their rainbow colors in the sun. The last ten minutes of my ride to work (in total a forty minute ride) are spent with my face mask on as I pass three gravel crushing concrete factories and fight against large diesel trucks with exhaust pipes that bellow smoke out the side. I guess the fumes keep me warm on cooler days, though. That sums up my commute to work. Bliss!

First commute to work in over two months and everything was great...
The temperature was close to 50 F, the Twenty was purring like a kitten, and although it rained it stopped shortly I had to come home. |
beautiful weather and clear what a great day to ride.
|
First commute to work this year.. the weather was high 60's this morning.. a nice 6 mile ride into downtown Jacksonville Florida
|
The ride to work was uneventful. It was chilly and there were headwinds.
On the way home, though, I hit a milestone: I bonked for the very first time. It was NOT cool. I spent the last half of the ride spinning in my lowest gear, going so slow I could hardly stay in a straight line, feeling weak and shaky, and generally hating life. When I got home, I inhaled a bowl of green chili and two bowls of cheerios. |
Working all night was painful but the ride home was terrible. For once I actually regretted riding to work...of course the bigger regret was actually showing up. I'm not looking forward to getting in the car to go get my bloodwork done. I am happy that I was able to schedule my ultrasounds for next Thursday instead of the following week. Something has to give here...

wet ride home last night at 11pm - it was just sprinkling when I walked out the door, but then 5 mins into the ride, it started coming down steady - of course! Dried everything out last night as best I could (shoes were still wet this morning) and rode in again even though rain is predicted. Felt good to do that. Normally, I don't ride in the rain during the colder months, but now that it's a little warmer out I will be.
I think this year I may get over myself and just ride in the rain all year long. Although I should probably stop procrastinating and get the fenders on my bike like I keep saying I will do! And another pair of shoes Have a great weekend everyone! |
My ride home yesterday was my first commute leg completely in the rain.
It wasn't much of a rain - a steady light shower - but it was enough that I wore my water-resistant workout suit pants and windbreaker. Added leather gloves, and nothing special under my helmet - I couldn't find my wool hat. Turns out that, in the 50-ish or lower temps, that was perfect! Just a little cool, and with the cool rain on my head, I stayed just a little cool the whole ride. Didn't stink when I got home. Took it easy (careful, but not timid) the whole way. Only problem was a little trouble seeing through the raindrop-covered glasses. I might still be cautious about riding to work in morning rains, but this was pretty pleasant, and of course, I had the whole MUP to myself! |
I had to drive yesterday, so missed that rain, but rode to work in more rain this morning. It was just a light mist but the roads were very wet from showers during the night. Fortunately I had installed my RaceBlade fenders and that kept me 95% dry. It has rained 4 out of 5 days this week, but I've cycled every day but one. Not bad for someone who hates riding in the rain.
A cold front is supposed to move through our area sometime later today, with possible thunderstorms. I'm hoping it will hold off until tonight so I don't get soaked again on my way home this afternoon. I've had enough of that for the week. At least the rain has cleared out the pollen, for now. |
The ride in was great. About 2 minutes after I left, the deluge started and I was wearing a t shirt and gym shorts. I was, and am, soaked to the bone. With the warm(er) temps in the high 60's, it is great. :D

Yay! Friday is here!
Rain falls, cars speed, peds unaware And I'm missing it |
I am so glad it's Friday. I need to sleep in so badly...
Um, the ride in was fine - traffic was light and there was no weirdness. Phew! |

Um, the ride in was fine - traffic was light and there was no weirdness. Phew! Rain today, got wet on the bottom half, so I'm hanging stuff over a radiator. Starving today too, so I'll probably have to eat a huge lunch. Looking forward to a relaxing calm weekend with my daughter :) |
~20F warmer than last couple days, but heavy drizzle.
|
no riding for me today, kind of cold and rainy here and i already rode in the rain once this week...decided to take the auto and i ran on the treadmill at work...feeling good now, got the sweat out
trying to keep the balance between running and biking during the week...also throwing some swimming in there too when the pool isnt totally crowded i did take a different route on my way home so i could get a few extra miles in because i knew i wouldnt be riding today...felt good |
