Hah! (Sorry, Bob N.!) If it makes you feel any better, there's a Mexican superstition that if a bird poops on you you're going to get some money soon.

Nice bike, Zin. :thumb:

I had a good ride home. Pretty gnarly tailwind had me loping along over 20MPH for a while, not even breathing hard. :D I love that. Once on the MUP it was sheltered so I dropped a few MPH. I came up behind a dude on an MTB. He was wearing flip-flops on platform pedals, moving around 14MPH. We came to a stop sign and slowed down so I dropped into my middle ring. He heard that, and suddenly his cruising speed went to 17MPH. He was my rabbit for about 4 miles. He was busting stop signs and I wasn't, so I got to catch up 2 or 3 more times before he turned around. :p

I left at 1:30 pm to get back to my car. Today was kindergarten orientation for my son. My goodness where did the time go? That and why am I so dang nervous? He does not care either way.

Anyways.... it was weird to be riding home that early. 70F and almost a perfect commute. These off timed commutes are usually the ones I remember the next year. Last year was me working 7-7 and riding home when the sun was setting through parks filled with kids playing and the odd atmosphere my exhaustion created. The bad part was a closed part of a trail with trees everywhere with an inadequate light that I became completely spooked for no good reason and sprinted for a couple of miles. :p

Fine ride, nice almost full moon helping to light my way, high humidity, but lower than usual for August. A female coworker rode in as well and was coming up the road some distance behind me. She asked later if I was the one flashing her....Yes, it was me. She was flashing me as she asked too :-)

vtjim 08-19-08 05:57 AM

Morning commute was nice today. No rain but it was pretty dreary out. About 55F. Good tail wind. I saw only a handful of peds and no cyclists.

I wish a couple of my female co-workers would flash me.

Ride in today was nice. First ride with the new messenger bag. Felt great. Warm morning though.

making 08-19-08 06:21 AM

Eeriely foggy and a bit warm, but nice to ride again.

Wheel_Motion 08-19-08 06:38 AM

Afternoon ride into work I think I only had four cars pass me. My night ride home was very nice with full moon up in the sky and only two cars passing me...

Congratulations! How did it go?

My ride home was...late. And cold. And it took too damn long. But I would have said all of those things for my seven-minute drive, too...I really just wanted to be at home and be asleep. The good news is that I got to see fireworks! The city of Wheat Ridge had their little town celebration on Saturday, fireworks got rained out, so they did them last night. It was awesome!

The ride in was pretty cool. I met a friendly motorcyclist, we said 'good morning' at the light. And then a pedestrian hit the pedestrian button to trip the light for me before he jaywalked. I like people! :D

jpdesjar 08-19-08 07:18 AM

fast legs this morning, the air was still
yesterday i did my normal commute and i ran 3 miles...felt good

need to leave a little earlier so i can avoid the bothersome city busses...we always end up playing the passing game

jyossarian 08-19-08 08:14 AM

Traffic was stupid this morning. I could've gone faster on the sidewalk if I wasn't blocked in by so many cars.

Pig_Chaser 08-19-08 08:20 AM

Fast, nice tail wind...
Hot already this morning, 16C for the ride in (i iknow that's not exactly hot, but for the morning at this time of year/latitude, it's hot).

O please dont say you rode on the sidewalk, :twitchy:

HardyWeinberg 08-19-08 09:20 AM

Last night first time in over a week trailering the toddler up the hill. Stopped halfway up to yak w/ a friend ran into coming down, and got that better-than-2nd wind for the rest of the way home.

This morning, quick ride in trying to beat the rain.

pinkrobe 08-19-08 09:47 AM

On the way home last night I was pretty bagged, which made me dread the mtn bike ride I had planned for later in the evening. Then I saw him - a roadie about my size, carrying a load similar to mine, riding out of the saddle up the hill, and about 1 block ahead of me.

Must...

catch...

up...

I just couldn't help myself. I caught and passed him before the top of the hill, then stayed away until he turned off behind me. Sigh.

The ride in today was really warm. Perhaps too warm. I hope it rains on the ride home.

threeflys 08-19-08 09:58 AM

Well, today was my day back at the commute after my Vasectomy....and it was great! I could tell I hadn't ridden those hills for a while, though. ;) I did get me a new steed also, which is about 5# heavier than my old bike. But, the smooth ride more than makes up for the weight, I'm really liking steel and fatter tires!

That must've been what happened on my ride in today, I tried a new route and was riding in front of a guy for a few blocks, at a stoplight I took off and was about a block ahead and he came zooming up and passed me...then stayed about a block ahead the rest of the ride. :D

caloso 08-19-08 11:13 AM

Unseasonably cool. I'd call it a "marine layer" except that we're 100 miles from the beach. Rode the Gazelle today as the Trek is in the shop. I'm half-hoping they'll pronounce it dead....

Sixty Fiver 08-19-08 11:16 AM

Much cooler... we hit 36 C (95F) yesterday and things have cooled down by 16 degrees.

Steve_Reno 08-19-08 11:38 AM

Cool in Reno too, about 65F this mornign at 9am, perfect 9 mile ride though, no bad cars, good hill climb and I dropped someone instead of getting dropped for once.

How many days did you give yourself? I gave myself two full work weeks off, then I was back on the bike for the third week. No problems at all. (Back in March of this year) :thumb:

I feel like I'm spamming the thread! These posts are about 3 hours apart, I promise. :D

I caught a guy on a really cool bike when I was riding home. Basically, there were two foot levers that he pushed down alternately. Each engaged one chain. So, one chain on each side of the frame. I think it had bungee cords to pull the pedal up so he could push back down. So it was somewhat like pedal action on a normal bicycle.

I pulled up along side and told him I liked his rig. He said he planned it out and had some folks fabricate various parts, but that others have made similar designs. Pretty cool. :thumb:

Screaming headwind home, but I managed to slog through it pretty quickly anyway. Building up those guads! :p

Today was a good day to ride! On the way to work I enjoyed a warm ride (81F) but it was a bit windy (this summer has been very windy). But the gem was on the way home. I enjoy a variety of wild life in the areas where I ride. I've been graced by many unusual animals like Bald Eagles, Egrets, Guinea fowl (domesticated), and Fox (both small like a cat and large like a medium dog). I sure I've forgotten something. Today I came across a group of seven wild turkeys! My wife thinks that they are a young brood and that makes sense as they are about two feet tall, thin and they didn't scatter when they finally saw me. It's pretty easy to sneak up on wild animals when riding a bike. I remember riding past a Red Hawk eating a snake (way cool) and about 50 Turkey Vultures feasting on a deer carcase (Ooh, ooh that smell. The smell of death surrounds you.). That was a little spooky.

2nd 1/2 of yesterdays wind push 'farfignuggan', but not so bad. thanks for asking!
head/side winds from the nw, traffic COOL, temp 82 deg F, humidity below 50 %!
a winner commute!

jterribili 08-19-08 08:48 PM

hello all...once again I have abandoned you and been unfaithful. please accept my apologies

nothing too exciting to report on my recent commutes. Yesterday on the way home some guy almost ran into me head on with his piece of crap car...i yelled and kept riding.

someone passed me on the right side when I was in the right lane - that was fun. Caught up to her two lights later and motioned for her to roll down her window...she didn't - I wouldn't have either if I were a women and some crazy geek-looking freak on his bike that I just blew by and cut-off caught up to me and asked me to roll down the window. I dropped the hammer at the light and got my revenge that way.

I will try and be more faithful with my posts.
