Since I'm only about 70 miles east of you, I quite literally share your pain. Here's hoping Fay goes away and we both are back riding in the dry soon.:D |
I'm going to miss the road. I got to know it intimately. I was able to almost close my eyes at night and relive the ride mile by mile. There are certain 'kill zones" I won't miss. I used to really look forward to it, though, gonna miss it. Can't wait 'till next spring! Now I'm researching and shopping for a new used bike. The old $20. Schwinn got me hooked but I want modern ... :-)

The ride this morning was nearly effortless. On top of that, the sky was gorgeous! Those were the brightest colors I've seen at dawn in a very long time. I came out at just the right time of day, I guess.
No stoplight mojo today, though. I had to hit the pedestrian button a few times. |
Had a fast ride. I took the last 3 days off to recover. I was fully rested and it showed.
|
Great! Took a new route to add a few miles on, ended up beings exactly 20 miles. My legs still felt like dull achy jelly from Saturday's 75 mile journey extravaganza, but it was all good, got her done in good time.
Very nice.... But, I need to recover more from Saturday. |
had a great time this morning biking to work...the sun was out and the temp was just right, did a lot of biking yesterday so i thought my legs would be tired but they felt pretty good
picked up some chain j lube yesterday and put a bell on the steamroller...i am hoping the chain j will last a little longer than the ice wax :thumb: |
Nice ride this morning. Bit of a headwind, mid 60sF, and sunny. I caught up to a guy I've seen before. He was doing a pretty constant 15MPH all the way in so I let him pace me. Nice & relaxed. :)
Two bicycles were u-locked to a sign on the MUP in a section where two bikes shouldn't have been. Middle of woods/swamp area. One had "ape hanger" handlebars with an old-fashioned bell. Strange. |
We had a pretty good ride in today. Traffic volume was up slightly, but it's still nothing like mid-September. It's going to be hot and dry on the way home...
|
Got caught in a downpour going home on Friday.
It worked out well since there were fewer tourists on the Brooklyn Bridge. |
Really didn't feel like it today, but towed my kids down to preschool anyway. Not looking forward to the ride home, either.

Today sucked. Coudn't get out of bed, no energy, no motivation. I think I lost my blinkie on my crash yesterday and that took 30 min. for hunting around to no avail. But I risked it anway since 80% of my ride is on the MUP.
Some idiot on a scooter that pulled up to the T intersection with stopping completely. Dude looked behind him, looked down at his feet (wtf?) and then looks in the opposite direction of the perpendicular part of the intersection out to some field and then damn near T-boned me. I had kind of anticipated it and was saying out loud "Take a look.. take a look" when I first saw him pull up not looking and I was first entering the intersection. I then I was standing trying to get up to speed and dude luckily swerved in the opposite direction of me. I yelled a few things about the stop sign and taking a look, etc. The rest of the commute was uneventful and uninspired. But mentally, it was a bit of a breakthrough because I never wished being anywhere else or got apathetic about the whole uninspired ride. I just kept pedaling. |
Will we go an entire week without a rainy commute? Tune in Friday to find out!
So far so good. Nice Monday morning ride. |
Nice ride, 60F. T-storms yesterday broke the ~100F heat/haze(smog), rain last night sapped some of the humidity that took its place...
|
Got an email from an out-of-town biker over the weekend who was visiting Raleigh and looking for rides. So I invited him to join me on my morning commute today. My legs were fried after riding a century (101 miles) on Sunday, so we had a leisurely ride at recovery pace. We rode all the way downtown and I showed him all of Raleigh's "tourist attractions" -- the state capitol, governor's mansion, the giant acorn, and Krispy Kreme donuts. So, I ended up with a 20-mile morning commuter, double my usual distance. Nice way to start the commute week, although I'll have to work later than usual to make up for the late start.
|
A little cooler this morning - getting some delta breeze, I could actually see some fog off to the west. Made for a nice ride, and should be cooler going back up the hill this afternoon.
School must be back in for the rugrats... I pass by a couple of elementary schools and there were kids, parents, and cars all over. The traffic was bad enuf that my ride took about 10mins longer than usual. I'll have to try and get started a little earlier! I'll only be able to ride 3 days this week! :-( |
Beautiful ride in this morning, the students won't be back to campus until Thursday so it was a peaceful ride!
|
Very slow. A bit sore from a fall on Sunday.
|
First Car commute for me in a month. My girlfriend broke her wrist yesterday, had to driver her to see the orthopedic Dr. So I went in late with a car. :-(
|
Today was the first commute on the new commuter rig. It was a beautiful cool morning with higher humidity then we normally have. A welcome change.
Had an RTD bus rip past me only to pull over to pickup passengers not more than 5 car lengths past me. I had to do a little evasive maneuvering to keep from running into the back of the bus. JERK! |
Zin - What is the new commuter rig? pics?
|
Rumrunn6, the new rig is a 2008 Trek Portland. (My birthday present to myself.) :D

Missed the ride today. :( Tweaked my back yesterday while trying to follow my husband on his bike (he tends to not tell me where we're going and so I'm in high gear trying to get up a steep hill bleh). Thought I'd be able to go in on Wednesday, but I have an afternoon appt. Not sure if I'll have the energy on a Friday!
|
Zin - Sweet ride! I'm starting to learn that Trek bikes are popular. What made you decide on the Trek brand and this particular model?
|
Rumrunn, I've had my Trek 5200 road bike for years and it fits so well. So, I chose Trek because the fit works well for me. I chose this model because it is snappier road geometry. Disk brakes for all season commuting. Mounting points for the rear rack. It is also light. (comparatively speaking)
I commute 30 miles 3 days/week and 50 miles the other 2 days. So, this bike is fast and responsive even when loaded with all the crap I have to carry for work. :) EDIT:Sorry for the hyjack. Rumrunn.. pm me if you'd like to know more. |
Nice weather, good ride............until a bird pooped on my face riding along the Towpath.
