Brought the bad weather bike up from the basement as TS Hanna due to sweep thru today. Never made it to Cape Cod, couple of bands of showers & less wind than usual. Only water drops I received were blown off trees.

noteon, your boys are so cute!!
Today I saw something new on the way in: darkness. Real darkness, with stars and everything, not even that hazy little glow on the horizon. This is how it's going to be until spring. |
My ride home yesterday was my best yet. Averaged around 15MPH for the whole 10 miles (the thought of sushi for dinner is a great carrot ;)). While riding along E. Railroad, young woman in the passenger seat of an oncoming car gave me two thumbs up; I waved back and started to laugh. It was a great ego boost. :D

The commute home was nothing but mellow. The weather was just warm enough, the sun was a little lower in the sky than it used to be, the path was full of happy cyclists and (gasp!) considerate pedestrians. I've noticed myself making better time on the ride home...maybe I'll start adding a loop around the park by the house to get an extra mile or so.

I swear, I do other things than bike commute and spam this thread.
Anyway, I was all set to leave early this morning and go get coffee. Then I realized that it was cold and wet and crappy outside, and I had left my bike out in the rain, and I wasn't as layered-up as I needed to be. I didn't get coffee, but I did have a nice ride in spite of the cold and the wet roads. |
Ride in this morning was warm, humid and foggy.
No real damage but a lot of small branches and pine needles on the MUP into Camp Lejeune. |
Cool(ish) and humid. uneventful ride. Annoying busy morning starting here at work.
|
It was excellent. Temp in the low 50's, no humidity - very nice riding - and rather invigorating.
|
much cooler this morning! Wore my long sleeve base layer that I bought for winter. My hands were the part that really got cold. The rest of my stayed pretty toasty. First ride in where I didn't sweat at all though. I was bone dry when I got to work.
I did notice that my lungs hurt from the cold air, makes me wonder if I'll get used to that for the winter time. I made good time though. Since I twas cold I wanted to raise my body temperature to keep warm. worked pretty well. |
Mid 50s. Sunny. I noticed that, soon, my morning ride would be before sunrise. :(
Passed 5 other cyclists. None were particularly slow. I was just wired up for some reason. I followed one for 2 or 3 miles at 15mph before dinging my bell and "droping the hamer." :p Then it was 20-25 for the rest of the ride. |
decided to wear a long sleeve shirt under my t-shirt and i am glad i did...was a pleasant ride and i took the route with the big climb...felt great when i arrived at work

hey there portland commuter...where do you ride to?
|
Mid-70's with really high humidity after all of the rain that the hurricane dumped. Tree dooties all over the road. Some headwind but just a beautiful day. Am I OCD because I live to ride into work?

1st time back in about a week and a half, family was in town, nagging knee injury. Was cool and brisk out, burned a couple other commuters, got burned by a few others. Fun.
|
Cool, 1 or 2*C when i left (late) this morning. In order to avoid the rush on the main route that i usually take i tried another route. Man, there was no traffic, too bad there was a signicant gravel portion. I think i'm coming down with something too.
|
'Twas a brisk and sunny morn. This is my wife's favourite time of the year, when things cool down but aren't really cold. She gets to put on all her favourite outfits [all with matching jackets]. I'm still wearing shorts and a t-shirt most of the time...

Cool? They're forecasting 91 F here!
Got new Pearl Izumi gloves over the weekend; I'd lost one of my Novara gloves last week. I like these better; the Velcro hooks are in the right place, where the Novaras' hooks kept catching on the fabric of the gloves themselves. Had a flat Thursday, a hole that developed around one of my tube valves. Replaced that with a pre-patched tube I happened to be carrying around. JeffS, how was the ride home Friday? Conditions here weren't so bad during normal commuting hours. |
I'm fidgeting, had to drive today because I'm day call and was running late and would have never made it in in time and tomorrow I donate plasma, and that leaves me too spacey to ride, so it looks like Wed, Thur, Fri this week, oh how will I last!!

first ride to work in 4 months. New job, new much longer commute. It went quite well! I'm way up north, my new workplace is in Southland (Calgary). Took 4th Ave to downtown, jumped on 5th and then took Elbow all the way south. No traffic for the most part. Just over an hour ride time. Glad to be back on the bike to work.

A bit overcast here in the Long Beach, CA area. Temps in the upper 60's so I just wore a jersey and shorts and wasn't chilly at all. Got to work and as always greatly enjoyed my morning oatmeal and coffee. Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of the clouds of gnats I have to ride through. I'll become a millionaire when I develop a product to solve this problem. :)

Nice and sunny. 40sF. Supposed to touch 80 later.
