Yeah, whoa, what is this? It was 62 degrees this morning. I was almost cold! Low humidity, brisk wind (right in my face, of course)... it felt like spring! Wonderful change from the heavy, thick, hot air we've been riding through lately.
I put a new chain, cassette (12x34), and tires (Pasela TG) on the Airborne over the weekend, and the puppy flies, even into a headwind. I wish I'd've left early so I could extend the ride. But I bet going home will be even better. RichC |
Hot one yesterday BUT LOVED IT !! I hear the temps reached 105 in San Jose. Didn't feel that hot to me, but still it was hot.
|
Another nice, cool, breezy day, though unremarkable. Only interesting incident was when I looked down at the shadow of the power lines and saw the shadow of a squirrel above me. (I dropped him. :p)
The ride was the best part of my day--had a tooth drilled and got a performance review at work.:irritated |
At last, a pleasant calm sunny morning. This made for a great ride today. Wish I could find that intermittant clunk on the bike though, it is driving me mad. I've had nearly everything apart and still no success!
Cheers folks, Ed |
Great! Cool and sunny. Riding today makes it my first 4 day week! I'm going to try to keep doing 4 days a week until it gets too cold.
|
My commute is 4.5 miles.
Today I left work and when I got home my comp said I'd done 22 miles. It was just too nice to go straight home:D :D :D . |
A little bit of bushfire smoke creeping into things around here lately. Not enough to stop me from riding yet (dense bushfire smoke is the only thing that stops me from riding, and I've ridden in hail before), but enough to annoy me slightly. Man, we need some rain.

A lot drier than yesterday. I started commuting again after many years this year. I noticed that at the beginning of the year I felt like I was going to die climbing these hills - could barely make 5 miles. Today I realized I don't even sweat until I finally stop. Scale says I've lost almost 20 pounds. But alas, my excitement was quelled by the bozos from Alabama that left-hooked me.

Had a company event today and rode from there to a friend's house. Got about the same amount of miles in (around 20) but on a meandering course through San Jose and Santa Clara.
It was nice to get away from the standard commuting course. Leaving from the company event illustrates I think how bike-commuters build in biking into their routine at every turn. In many ways, b-c'ing just just like driving. |
At last, some sunshine in England!
Had a great ride in this-morning. Clear blue skies and bright sunshine. Not too fast today as I was feeling the effects of a long ride yesterday, but that is good too! The bike was in good shape too - I finally found and fitted replacement cones for the rear hub bearings and the mysterious clunking noise has at last been exorcised. And finally.... I didn't know whether to be afraid or amused at the "traffic calming" sign I saw on the road into a village yesterday. It stated: CHILDREN Please Drive Carefully It is good to learn when you're young, but this is madness. |

Everything was great until I wrecked! Bike goes to 'doctor' today.....

GAWD, I just love biking!!! Hadn't biked in almost two weeks due to the 4th holiday and a wicked summer cold I had all last week. Felt sooo good to be back on the bike - weather was gorgeous in DC this morning after yesterdays rain, the humidity doesn't kick in again until tomorrow or Wednesday.
Loads of adrenaline and pent up energy - blew past ots of other riders on the way in. |
My commute this morning was uneventful. In fact, it was a bit on the boring side.
I took mass transit. :( |
Uneventful ride today. Little cooler than normal. Felt a little groggy from the hill ride on Saturday. Shower felt good because of the chill.
|
Heyup commuters,
Nice and warm again today, although it was a bit cloudy. Had a flat yesterday which developed whilst I was at archery practice. Now, I know what you may be thinking, but there is no connection.... Cheers, Ed |
wow... cool thread, i think i'm going to like this board. anyway... nice clear dry and warm... no wind. moderate traffic... just getting through the big intersections for which there is no alternative. i'm loving the summer with most of the students being on vacation... and the local lovely jogging talent has been exceptional making the morning commute even more enjoyable

Last night, beauteous. Got some hill climbs in.
This morning. Beauteous. Cloudy and chilly, though. Tailwind. More like a March ride in than a July ride in. Altered path to cut straight through San Jose, including the "eye-of-the-needle" path where there's approximately 2 mm of space between you and the curb, with buses and lots of traffic. (This, because of the silly light rail system that consumes what would have been two useful lanes.) Anyway, good practice for precision bike handling. |
Beautiful day for riding. 20C with slight headwind. Started out sunny but then light clouds came over. As I crossed to St Helens Island I noticed that one of the road bridges over the St Lambert locks was up, so I took the Jacques Cartier bridge. Saw several ground hogs and squirrels and one chipmunk on St Helens island.

I had a really stupid crash this morning. I went to unclip from my pedals at a set of lights, got too close to the gutter and fell over. Nothing damaged except my pride, but oh what damage that suffered! Apart from that, the last few days have provided perfect riding temperatures.
|
Today was hot and muggy on the way in, cooler on the way home. My right pedal is making an annoying click, and I will have to find time to fix it or something. And something popped in my knee today that didn't sound like the usual tendon-popping. Hope it's nothing serious. :(
(Plus I got a filling replaced last week, and it keeps hurting. Even biking isn't much fun at the moment.) |
From Gus Riley (regarding morning chill): Quite a difference from a day or two ago when your temps were up to 106-109 there in San Jose! Must have felt nice to be cooled down some.
Yes, indeedy. Last night's ride home was nice, too. In both cases I wore my long sleeve running shirt along with my light jacket. Still was a little chilly. I took the bee-line home last night. Made it in almost exactly one hour. Made a few lights I'd normally hit. Today is my down day. |
What a wonderful morning to ride to work! 74 degrees with just the slightest of headwinds!
Yesterday, I tried to ride my route at a pretty good clip, and about 2/3rds of the way thru, saw a rider ahead of me. Somehow, I managed to reach down and coax a few more rpm out of the cranks, and caught up to a local lady who is a very good rider. We finished the commute at a liesurly 16 mph, which was fine with me after my little sprint to catch her! This morning, my antique thighs were telling my a little easier pace might be the wisest course, so I jsut spun 'er up, and enjoyed the ride! Had a really great ride, too. I kept my heart rate comfortably in the aerobic zone, and ended up making good enough time that I stopped down at the shop I used to work at and treated ol' Blue to a soothing bubble bath! The old girl has to look good for RAGBRAI!! 5 hours and 5 minutes before me and ol' Blue roll out of here for the trip home! Can't wait!! LOL |
I knew I was slow, but today I was passed by a house. Now THAT's slow!
Okay, it was one of those prebuilt things being towed by a truck. I was glad he went all the way into the next lane with that load. Today was even hotter and muggier than yesterday. 95 degrees. My knee that made the funny noise yesterday felt fine (I took the short route, just in case) and before work I took my bike to the LBS, where they tightened things up and didn't charge me (said it was included under the warranty) so the click is gone. On my way back, at the last turn toward home, a whole litter of baby raccoons ran off the road from where they were all munching a road kill. |
