Waved it off today, accidents galore & roads freezing up.
|
My axle slipped in the drop outs while riding so I had to walk the bike home and adjust the axle and tighten it down really well and then start my ride again, I got to spend a little more time outdoors this morning and I was only 20 minutes late or so. :) I may need to look into some tensioners, I guess I am getting stronger but it did happen at a take off from a stop, I think when I tensioned my chain this morning I didn't tighten the nuts down enough because I was still sleepy.

Didn't ride home last night due to the snow and black ice. News claimed that there were over 200 fender benders during the evening rush. I took the company 4 wheeler home but it still took me 75 mins for a 12 mile trip. It was quite a mess out there. Hopefully I can ride home tonight. Its nice and sunny out right now but still cool.

Great! 70 degrees, first time on the bike in two months, and I made almost record time-- 5.5 miles, 26 min!! felt good.
|
Ride in was superb today. Wore a light jacket for the first half, shorts and tee for the rest. Southern California's neat. Mid 60's or something, I dunno... But I love that it's cool enough so that when I get to work I'm not dripping with sweat!
Saw another rider who looked like a commuter on Poway Rd. Nice guy. But hey - nice guy - if you're reading this... Get your bootie in the bike lane before someone kills you coming out of their driveway on that stretch. They're always in a hurry on that piece of road. Looking forward to the ride home. Gonna be a toasty one, according to the news man. |
Cold, especially with the new snow on the ground. Felt good and definitely brought the lungs to life. I got new shoe covers last night so the toes were nice and toasty this morning!
|
Brisk 55° this morning and rode in with shorts and a tee.
|
Nice ride in. 50F felt warm I must be winterizing my metabolism. Still full-finger gloves though. Passed a roadie in Phonak jersey.

Last night, light turns green, as I put my feet on the pedals to start, a roadie in a full body suit, all black like a road ninja, no lights, must've been cruising in top gear, he was seriously haulin'.. uphill too.. ran the red and nearly took me out. Luckily I saw him at the last second before I started pedaling, but dang..
|
I woke up late and drove.
Shame on me. I have off-site training Wed. and Thu., so I won't ride the next two days either. |
No ride, had to take our son to the doctors'. It's the first time I've driven in months, in fact, I can't remember the last time. I was looking out a window, just a few minutes ago, at the snow and thinking how I wished I had ridden today. Even with wind and temps in the 30's, I miss it. I'll be back on it tomorrow.

Dude. If you rode through the snowy/icy mess of yesterday afternoon/evening you rock!! I ride through downtown 'Tosa on my commute from Meno Falls to West Allis, but I felt that I could not ride home last night because of the elements
Oh I did ride through it. Gotta get home somehow. I went out to my bike and that's when the whiteout started. Go figure, as soon as I rolled into the driveway it all stopped. Bike was pretty well iced over as well as my legs. I am assuming that you run up the parkway on your commute up to the falls? What time do you leave in the morning? |
Cold. Took a few hours off this morning to run some errands, so my 5.5 mile commute was 14.9 miles instead. It was about 38° when I left the house, but with a 13mph headwind. Clothing-wise I'm able to keep everything but the toes warm. Must be time for better socks. Tomorrow will be even colder, so I'll probably try using my skate rain covers over my Shimano shoes.

It's feeling a lot more like winter around here! Funny though, how the smokers at work say I'm crazy to ride my bike in this weather, but they go outside all frickin day long to have a smoke!
I must say: they're losers on my scorecard! |
Overdressed this morning. It's gonna take a while to get that part right although I'd rather end up being a little overdressed than under.
|
I have to take my helmet off to you guys up north commuting in this freezing cold. Every morning now, I get to work, heat up the shower and stand there until there's no more hot water. My back, my elbows and my thumbs take at least a half an hour to get the feeling back! And that's at 40 degrees. I can't wait for 30... I guess there goes my dream of moving to the PacNW.
There was about a 20mph diagonal wind this morning going in, which catch my panniers and make my bike more like a sailboat. Just for added fun, those big trucks with double trailers have become popular on my airport road, which tosses me around a bit. But it was great. I always get a big kick out of it when I go faster on my bike on the backroads than the SUVs on the highway! (LOL) |
mmm, pacNW.
considering my shift started at 4:30am and ended at 9:30, i had a brisk and lonely trip out and a fairly pleasant trip back. short 4.7 miles one way. my new fenders that don't fit were rubbing in the front but i fixed that when i got home. also have a MUCH nicer 20 spoke front wheel that i just put on so i might see if the efficiency is worth the lack of abuse-taking ability. probably won't be and i'll be back to my 32. not much exciting happened. some other riders but not really anything interesting. |
Absolutely Beautiful!
Huge snow flakes slowly falling down, cold, no wind. I couldn't have prayed to all the gods and saints and asked for a more perfect winter ride. Definitely an improvement over yesterday. |
Cccc c ccc cold ddd dd! 24F. It took me almost 2.5 hrs to get to work. The colder it is, the more I layer, the slower I go. I think I averaged 16.5mph
But, you shoulda seen the looks I got. I had a mail lady give me a, "Woo Hoo!" While I was climbing this hill in Crowders Mountain. Made my day. |
Coldest ride for me yet.. 33° here in florida. I had to let my toes thaw out when I got here, even with 2 pair of socks. Thats about as cold as it gets here, I can deal with it.
Come on winter, bring it on!! |
About to leave the house. Weather reports 24° with a windchill of 16° - yikes!
|
Coldest ride for me...29 degrees (F) when feet hit pedals. Surprisingly, it wasn't bad. And nobody's more surprised than I. I'm a tremendous weather wuss.
It was a clear ride, too...The sky was light blue and the sun was cresting some trees near my office. |
17F/-8C with a tailwind. :thumb: Coldest morning of the season so far. On the MUP, I passed one MTB-cyclist, and saw one pedestrian. I guess people are back into hibernation.
I saw an SUV with Georgia plates sitting in a driveway with its engine running and no one in it. Southerners. |
