I woke up late and drove.

Shame on me.

I have off-site training Wed. and Thu., so I won't ride the next two days either.

No ride, had to take our son to the doctors'. It's the first time I've driven in months, in fact, I can't remember the last time. I was looking out a window, just a few minutes ago, at the snow and thinking how I wished I had ridden today. Even with wind and temps in the 30's, I miss it. I'll be back on it tomorrow.

I am assuming that you run up the parkway on your commute up to the falls? What time do you leave in the morning?

Cold. Took a few hours off this morning to run some errands, so my 5.5 mile commute was 14.9 miles instead. It was about 38° when I left the house, but with a 13mph headwind. Clothing-wise I'm able to keep everything but the toes warm. Must be time for better socks. Tomorrow will be even colder, so I'll probably try using my skate rain covers over my Shimano shoes.

It's feeling a lot more like winter around here! Funny though, how the smokers at work say I'm crazy to ride my bike in this weather, but they go outside all frickin day long to have a smoke!

I must say: they're losers on my scorecard!

Overdressed this morning. It's gonna take a while to get that part right although I'd rather end up being a little overdressed than under.

I have to take my helmet off to you guys up north commuting in this freezing cold. Every morning now, I get to work, heat up the shower and stand there until there's no more hot water. My back, my elbows and my thumbs take at least a half an hour to get the feeling back! And that's at 40 degrees. I can't wait for 30... I guess there goes my dream of moving to the PacNW.

There was about a 20mph diagonal wind this morning going in, which catch my panniers and make my bike more like a sailboat. Just for added fun, those big trucks with double trailers have become popular on my airport road, which tosses me around a bit. But it was great. I always get a big kick out of it when I go faster on my bike on the backroads than the SUVs on the highway! (LOL)

mmm, pacNW.

considering my shift started at 4:30am and ended at 9:30, i had a brisk and lonely trip out and a fairly pleasant trip back.

short 4.7 miles one way.

my new fenders that don't fit were rubbing in the front but i fixed that when i got home. also have a MUCH nicer 20 spoke front wheel that i just put on so i might see if the efficiency is worth the lack of abuse-taking ability. probably won't be and i'll be back to my 32.

not much exciting happened. some other riders but not really anything interesting.

Absolutely Beautiful!
Huge snow flakes slowly falling down, cold, no wind. I couldn't have prayed to all the gods and saints and asked for a more perfect winter ride. Definitely an improvement over yesterday.

Cccc c ccc cold ddd dd! 24F. It took me almost 2.5 hrs to get to work. The colder it is, the more I layer, the slower I go. I think I averaged 16.5mph

But, you shoulda seen the looks I got. I had a mail lady give me a, "Woo Hoo!" While I was climbing this hill in Crowders Mountain. Made my day.

Coldest ride for me yet.. 33° here in florida. I had to let my toes thaw out when I got here, even with 2 pair of socks. Thats about as cold as it gets here, I can deal with it.

Come on winter, bring it on!!

Coldest ride for me...29 degrees (F) when feet hit pedals. Surprisingly, it wasn't bad. And nobody's more surprised than I. I'm a tremendous weather wuss.

It was a clear ride, too...The sky was light blue and the sun was cresting some trees near my office.

17F/-8C with a tailwind. Coldest morning of the season so far. On the MUP, I passed one MTB-cyclist, and saw one pedestrian. I guess people are back into hibernation.

I saw an SUV with Georgia plates sitting in a driveway with its engine running and no one in it. Southerners.

28F with a headwind, not too bad though. It gave me a chance to test my new cold weather jacket, worked really well with only a single, heavyweight jersey underneath. The only real issue is that it's difficult to get loose on these cold days.

Coldest morning in NC since early last spring or late last winter, about 27 F. I didn't wear my warmest clothing, wanting to save something extra for when it really gets cold. I was dressed almost perfect, and didn't have a drop of sweat on my when I got to work. My base layer t-shirt wasn't even damp, which is rare. My fingers were a little chilly, so I'll wear my warmest gloves next time it gets this cold.

Temperature was in the low 50's, so a bit nippy at first. After about half a mile though, I was starting to perspire. I am beginning to think the best cycling temperature is probably in the low 40's. Not too cold, but cool enough to keep you from perspiring heavily. It was a good commute, I took the long way to work again.

Cold this morning with a decent headwind, I really worked hard. It felt good to roll into work and to take a warm shower. Such a rewarding ride.

A little warmer today (22°F) and the roads are nice and dry today. Plus my new gloves - Pearl Izumi Cyclone - are working like a dream. I almost picked up another pair of lobsters but I already a set and figured i'd try something else. They keep the fingers nice and toasty without getting all sweaty. I love it!!

I'm weak. Was going to drive. Car broke down. Got a ride part of the way from ex-wife. Was going to walk the last mile, co-worker picked me up. Blah.

My first subfreezing ride. 29°F with 20 MPH winds gusting to 30! Seemed to get colder as I rode... weird! Ride was slow as a good half of the ride was into the wind. I stopped at the bank and the store which added a couple extra miles to my regular ride. I managed not to sweat too much and was warm enough for the ride, but I have to work on getting some tights or riding chaps or something to keep the wind off of my legs. As usual, when I ride, I arrived feeling great and happy that I rode (and happy that no one ran me over!)

Bit nippy, 27 degrees F, and annoyingly windy at times, but all in all, not bad. 13 mile trip, everything warm but my toes, which were ok until the last 10 minutes or so. Have new shoe covers, which work a little, but not as well as I'd like.
