How was the commute today?

Monday morning. A good commute, although for some reason my body really didn't want to get cranked up and moving. Traffic a bit heavy on MLK, but very smooth and polite traffic interaction.
All in all a nice little commute. Maybe I'll feel more like a couple of sprints this afternoon.

I commuted 11 miles from my home due west of downtown Chicago. It was humid from the rain last night and there were lots of puddles to dodge. Looks to be a great week to commute here, around 60 to start, in the 70s for highs, and no rain until next weekend. I'll be checking out the race today too - this morning on OLN radio, and then OLN tonight on the tele. My family thinks I should be committed for being so tuned in to the TdF.

Starting to get pretty hot here, (for WA, and my thin blood that is) which made this morning a real nice ride. Slight tailwind, clear blue skies, probably mid 70s I'd say temp wise. I'll be cursing this warm day when its 4am and my apt still hasn't cooled down
The only downside to today's commute was that I had no energy, I did a lot of riding on the weekend and am tired and a bit sore. I hafta to drive in on Weds. which will provide a needed rest.

Another excellent ride in this morning. The weather is a bit cooler lately, which is nice, and we're getting some rain, which we badly need! Recently, some of the wash-outs on the trail I ride to work have been filled in with more stone dust. This helps with the bumps, but for now it's very soft and deep, so requires more careful handling. Oh well, I'm sure it'll get packed down soon enough!

Good ride in. My right ankle has been troublesome of late but was easier today. I got caught and passed by a fellow commuter on the road bridge as I was warming up, but I recaught him and we rode together for a few miles. It certainly helps the miles pass when you are chewing the fat.
i then managed to catch my regular cycling pal and rode the rest of the way in with him.
Bit of a tailwind and damp but not raining.
looks windy for the way home..

Nice tailwind combined with fresh legs made for a very fast (and fun!) commute in this morning. Felt like I was flying up the hills. On a hill that I usually climb around 10-11mph, I kept it up around 15mph for the first part and then pulled some extra power out of my *** to crest the steepest part at 14. It felt great! I guess my hill training is paying dividends.

Great commute. I left a bit early because I've added some additional stretching to my destination routine. It's supposed to rain in the afternoon, but it was just warm and partly cloudy. Traffic flowed along nicely, and I took the scenic route by Grant Park.

Had a great commute. because it was RAINING. For those that don't live in the south, it gets VERY hot and VERY humid, so by the time you get caught out it the rain it feels really good, as long as you don't get struck by lightning.

I have been on vacation so I haven't commuted (or ridden much) in the last week and a half. I thought I would be a little slow this morning since I haven't been riding but I made the commute in my fastest time ever. A full 1.5 mph better than my previous best average. I guess the time off the bike did me some good.

Second day in a row where they predicted rain, but there has been none. Very humid today, but otherwise great riding weather.

Another clear and warm day here. No wind, which is a trend I hope maintains. Last nights ride home was during some pretty strong wind that wasn't a fun addition to the 80+ temps. Supposed to cool down a bit for the next couple of days which is fin by me.. If it never got warmer than say 75f I'd be a happy man.

Tim's tailwind was my headwind this morning, it took a full 1 mph off my average speed, which hasn't been too good this summer anyway. At least the wind died down so I was able to bring the ave. speed for the day back up to normal on the trip home. Humidity is high enough that the air feels heavy, thunderstorms predicted for tonight and the rest of the week. Just when did New England get relocated to the PNW? Are we going to ever have a normal summer?

Another enlightening conversation with a passenger last night. Someday I'd like to live in a world where people mind their own goddamn* business.

Got a pleasant rain shower this morning, pity it only lasted for about 4km. Still, a little rain is better than no rain at all.

It's just been hot, hot, and hot. Plus it's a Spare The Air Day. I guess that means the air quality is so bad, cyclists are discouraged from riding. So they take their cars, making the air even worse.

First couple of commutes after returning from holiday. It is good to be back in the commute routine even if I do have to work in between rides...
Had some great rides whilst I was away in California. Riding by the sea is a real treat, and there are loooooong hills too - fantastic.
Cheers,
Ed

A couple of beauty rides into work the past couple of days - set world records for the 22km around the bay commute - yesterday with commuter MTB was 46min 16 secs, today with Bianchi road bike was 45 min 54 secs. (more red lights today) Previous best was around 50 minutes so I guess I'm getting faster. Yesterday I was hammering with the commuting MTB, today was just a light hammer with the Bianchi road bike (2 hrs of ball hockey last night, legs a little tired) Beautiful mornings with the sunrise over the bay, some Leander Boat club rowing shells on the bay already.
Rides home have been showery, have been just doing the 12 km ride on the way home.

Nice ride in this morning - it was about 13 degrees celcius when I left, but still very humid. Thunderstorms are forecasted for today, tonite, and tomorrow.. but of course they were supposed to come yesterday and never did.. so....

Had some severe rain showers last night so that made the air this morning fresh and cool. Wonderful ride in.

Raining really hard and foggy this morning, so drove in. Will use this day for errand running and grocery shopping.

I thought I could beat the rain home yesterday - WRONG!
It poured but I loved every minute of it. I did learn a few things though:
- the roads here do not drain very well. I had to ride in the center of the lane most of the time to avoid large puddles.
- You can not hear your cellphone ring in the rain. Also, a wet cellphone is a bad thing
I think mine is dead.
- My back pack does a great job with water - it held it in quite well
- The ride home was one of the more enjoyable rides I've had.

Forgot to log my ride home last night. I dropped the car off for service in Sunnyvale and went from there, adding about 10 miles in the process. I was still recovering a little from monster hill rides over the weekend and my legs were beat. Still, I averaged 25 MPH during stretches of Santa Teresa Blvd, only to hit every freakin' traffic light along the way!! Oh well. It was good interval training.

This a.m.'s commute was fun b/c there was a pretty good tailwind ... unusual. The traffic lights cancelled any gain from that, though.
Two idiot bikers forced me out of my lane and into a busy roadway b/c (of course) they were riding the wrong way.
I saw a "pro" biker -- shaved legs and all -- speeding up First Street. I kept up with him but we had different styles for certain. I clearly understood the traffic light patterns better than he did and waved goodbye to him as I did one of those turn-right-and-U-turn-to-catch-the-light-instead-of-turning-left gigs. Worked like a charm.

Nice commute today. Bit hot, but took it easy as it was a rest day after all. I have been commuting for about a year now. I have ridden around 6000 miles, probably 4500 -5000 of that is commuting.

I think that will increase next year as I am commuting 4 out of 5 days now and wasn't for about half of this last year.

OK...perhaps I am addicted. I drove to work today, ran some errands....rain stopped, got home, changed into biking clothes and headed out for a long ride. My wife thinks I am crazy. I just tell her I am addicted to cycling.
