At one portion, the wind was with me and I was moving ~27 mph. A car was slowly overtaking me on the left and tried to turn into a lot, right through me... I slammed on the brakes and ended hitting his side going almost parallel to the car at 5-7 mph. I'm fine; his car has a scratch from my panier. The kid claimed he didn't see me. Besides that minor accident, the ride was great.

Those are the days that always make me feel the best. Great ride, and a very real experience to keep things in check. At least the kid realized he hit you!

Fabulous weather here in DC. Cool morning, low humidity, not much breeze to speak of. Cars have been ultra-polite these last two weeks---signaling me to go ahead at 4-way stops when they arrived first, etc.

When I woke up this morning, the forecast was showing a 10% chance of rain doring the time I'd be riding. Long story short, I ended up riding to work fromn the train station in cotton trousers in the rain. Only half a mile, but still not the best experience.

From now on, if there's any chance of rain at all, I put on the rain pants.

I also had a nice tail wind coming in this morning. It was 26F but I saw a beautiful sunrise (it's still dark when I leave the house). It's suppose to only get up to around 36F, windy and cloudy... hey, it's a Monday. We might get lucky by the middle of the week and hit 50F. Anyway, it was still a very nice ride in this morning.

The forecast was calling for severe thunderstorms this morning, so I figured I would be driving today. However, when I got up, there were no storms showing up on the radar, so I headed to work on my bike. The pollen is so thick right now in NC that it looks like snow in my headlight. About halfway to work, I started feeling light sprinkles and it started raining hard right as I was approaching my office. Normally I take a lap around the building to round up the trip to 10 miles, but I headed right to the door today. Unfortunately, in my effort to get going quickly this morning, I forgot my door pass, so had to ride around the building to another entrance that doesn't need a pass. So I ended up getting a little wet but not soaked. I had to carry my bike into my office to avoid tracking pollen on the carpets. Seriously.

6 inches of wet sloppy snow on the ground this morning. I put the studs back on and set out, it was a nice ride. Very peaceful, beautiful in the section through the woods, and still nice in town.

Taking mine off today, hooray! Fingers crossed that they won't have to go back on.

pleasant riding this morning
it was sunny and 35º or so
i may get soaked on the ride home but there is a chance i may beat it home
i put a new chain ring on this weekend and i am feeling a difference...it feels more efficient and sturdier and i think the ring may be rounder than the old one

20F. One day it is winter the next spring. This time of year is tiring.
Was doing a TT workout until I started encountering ice and decided to slow down.
I plan on retrying the workout on the way home when it is supposed to be 54F out.

Windy!!! Put higher spoke count wheels on this past weekend... could really feel the stiffness difference, but there was lots more drag!

Ka_Jun 04-06-09 09:28 AM

Waved it off, on my way out the door, the rain was coming down hard, visibility 10ft. Went upstairs, forecast snow later today.

Itsjustb 04-06-09 09:36 AM

I bailed on Friday and worked from home. I don't know if we ever got the predicted 40-mph+ gusts, but it was pretty windy all day.

The forecast this morning called for am showers. I think I got caught in the worst of them as I could barely see at one point.

I was stopped at a light before it really started raining. A driver passing me going the opposite direction pointed at me and said something to his passenger. I'd like to think he was saying, "Boy, that guy's hard core" but more likely he was saying, "Boy, that guy's nucking futs." :)

nice and warm today, 7C, a little windy. On the you-don't-see-that-everyday front, there was a guy in a parking lot twirling a flaming baton. Very entertaining.

Weather forecast said it would be around 14C. I thought it over and thought I'd wear a thermal longsleeve under my short sleeved jersey, just to be sure. Just had an errand to run for my wife, and it actually turned out to be 24C. At the end of the one-way I should have taken off the thermal, but I was a bit lazy and thought I'd ride back with it still on. I had the wind in my favor, making it even warmer.

Seriously... The weather is getting awesome :D

A beautiful day in the River City. 47F and blue skies on the way to the office this morning. Should be in the 70s on the way home.

After the cherry blossoms hit full bloom this week, all the petals are falling off. The wind picked up a bit coming home on Custis (for those of you in the DC area) and it looked like it was snowing. Fantastic ride, and I just barely beat the rain home.

riff 04-06-09 03:02 PM

I woke up to snow on the ground. :twitchy:

buzzman 04-06-09 09:30 PM

a fairly pleasant ride in this morning but overcast and windy- wind in my face.

And I was beat from a long road ride yesterday.

The ride home was intense- RAIN! And I mean HEAVY RAIN! Rode the bike path home and hit some 10" deep puddles. Fortunately, I know the path well enough to know where to aim in the puddles and I was in my full rain gear (including shoe covers and goretex mitts).

Managed to get home not exactly dry as a bone but not completely a wet noodle.

29 stinking degrees! I thought Winter was over in Ohio.
I'm sure there are colder places this morning but I've already been out riding in shorts for the last 2 weeks. Physically I can handle the cold fine. Mentally, I am really sick of Winter.

MIKEnDC 04-07-09 05:27 AM

I missed the rain coming and going yesterday, and I may have missed the worst of the wind today--though it was still blowing 20+mph in my face. And at 37F/3C, I was certainly glad I pulled on the helmet liner at the last minute. :D

rumrunn6 04-07-09 06:34 AM

High 30s maybe even 40. Wet roads due to rain all day yesterday. I dislike having to spit on my water bottle before sipping, especially when I forget, and then get some grit in my mouth.

I rode the modified MTB and used the vertical bar ends more than before. They're pretty comfy sometimes and I like using them when I stand. The drop-style bar ends are also still great. I can't imagine spending too much time on a bike with just straight bars.

The geometry, gearing & wheel diameter on this bike are perfect for that nasty stretch of Route 20 with little shoulder, and what is there is all beat up. This bike just ate that shoulder up for breakfast. HooAhh!

I think my son is sneaking my protein powder but I had just enough to make a short protein/juice recovery shake for my arrival at work. Need to go grocery shopping - scrounging for food ... At least I had a great 2 eggs sandwich on toast, plus a slice of left over peperoni pizza before my ride. I guess I'll live ...:roflmao2:

tarwheel 04-07-09 06:48 AM

Rode into a headwind both ways yesterday, coming and going. However, I considered myself fortunate because I just missed a line of severe thunderstorms that rolled through our area all morning. This morning's ride was a piece of cake.

vtjim 04-07-09 06:57 AM

Light rain. Upper 30sF. Calm wind. Not too bad.

Chance of snow tonight. :twitchy: I don't think it'll stick, or freeze up, but we'll see.

neilfein 04-07-09 07:16 AM

I was pushing my bike into an elevator at the train station, and a woman looked at my folding bike and said "I've got one of those." She owns an older Dahon model. We chatted about folding bikes on the way to the train.

Pig_Chaser 04-07-09 07:36 AM

Oh man... first ride in just over a week. It was awesome. I woke up early this morning and hummed and hawed whether to fix up the mountain bike (winter commuter) or to get the road bike (summer commuter) on the road. I opted for the later and have no regrets. I forgot what slicks and gears and speed was like.
