Very icy trip this morning. Very glad I had my studded tires. When I got to work and looked at the parking lot my only thought was "Oh Oh, I forgot the YakTrax." Most of my winter falls are when I dismount and my feet slip out from under me. I usually wind up going under my bike, and then it falls on top of me. This evening was the exact opposite, I pulled the liners out of my gloves, stuck my helmet liner in the trunk, and hammered away on the hills without worrying about sweating too much. Roll on spring sunshine!

Dry today (for what seems like the firs time in ages) but I have had enough of the wind. It seems to be there at every turn. Whilst this makes for a good workout, it takes some of the fun out of riding, especially when one is being thrown left & right over the road.

nice rides the last two days after a week or so off the bike due to snow - felt great

Yeh! Looks like where into one of those "windy" periods, almost a week of high winds now.

I rode up to the1,000ft ridge, off route to put in a few extra miles on the way home. "Bad mistake,,," I was barely able to sustain momentum for several miles into a Gusting 35 mph BREEZE :rolleyes:

I didn't ride today.

Yesterday, the ride home was absolutely beautiful. About 50F and partly cloudy. Just about perfect.

It was a balmy +3F this morning in the Marinette, WI area for my usual 9 mile commute. Tomorrow I probably won't bike to work, as there is a heavy snow warning, and I'd like to avoid snow plow rash.

Colder this morning, 10 degrees colder than yesterday. Sunlight peaking though thin clouds brought out more people on the trail. The "escort" through the construction zone seems to have ended -uninterrupted riding at last.

Today was less icy than yesterday, only one big patch of frozen, corrugated slush, and multiple small patches of snow melt ice fingers across the road. Nice tonight, I didn't even wear my ear warmers. Beautiful full moon disappearing behind mackeral clouds as tomorrow's storm starts to move in.

Well, headed out today to deliver my newspapers, and after .8 miles my computer hit 5,000 miles! Rode 8 miles today. Cold, overcast, but thankfully it didn't rain.

Sadly, no rain here either this morning. We need it, last I checked out water supply was still only around 47% capacity. A nice southerly kept the temperatures down to a reasonably comfortable level and should make for a nice headwind this evening.

All amateur "traffic controllers" should be shot.

Cold (38F) and rainy ride in. Wasn't so badf until the last 3 or 4 miles when it was more stop and go and I was soaked to the core. Clothes got wet even though they were inside of a plastic bag inside my backback, so now I'm at work trying to warm up by wearing cold and wet clothes.

Oh yeah, I had a flat on the way in too.

I have not biked to work in almost two weeks. Monday we had 6 inches of snow and last night another 6 inches fell. If my commute was more urban and less rural I would not hesitate to bike it. Something about semi's, SUV's, ice, snow and highway speeds scares me just a bit.

Rain you want? Chris, you can have some of ours......

Soaked again this morning, though at least the wind has dropped. All in all it has not been a good week for riding, except it has been a good week for training. I definitely feel stronger after battling through the elements.

DC has had an inordinate number of dismal days this winter. I don't know if today was any different, or it is just the cumulative effect, but I am really getting sick of 35 degrees and a hard rain. In my opinion, these are the most uncomfortable conditions. I want snow!! At least I have the flood warnings to look forward to on the ride home. Oh well...all in all, it's still better than the train.

I decided to try an adventure trip. Given that there is an unplowed bike trail connection that cuts at least a mile off my commute, plus providing an overpass to bypass a very long traffic light, I decided to see whether my studs were up to the job.

It was quite fun, once I decided that nothing was going to fall off. The whole surface was a moonscape of big ice blocks -- whap, whap, whap. I now understand why some mountain bikes have suspensions.

It was a cool challange and cut about ten minutes off my trip -- fun with a purpose.

Seems that 15-20mph wind-chill really has an effect, thinking I need a full arm-length wind breaker, since my vest just doesn't do enough on the colder mornings...

Here in Sacramento, there is a bike trail along the levee that runs south from Downtown towards the Pocket. It's a little out of my way but it's a nice way to unwind after a long day. To my left, the traffic on I-5 was stopped. To my right, the geese and cranes dipped over the river and the sun set in a fire of pinks. And I glided home, thankful to have that moment.

My last couple comments didn't post for some reason. It was rainy this morning but much warmer (46F AM, 50F PM) than the previous few days when it was clear & cold with even a some black ice Thursday morning. Two days this week I was able to do my afternoon loop on a Summer Bike. Hoping for an early Spring. Don

'Didn't ride today (Friday--I don't ride Fridays anymore for commuting), but have had a great week (Tuesday through Thursday). The weather here has been wet, especially in the mornings (Chris, you can have some of ours too). The bike lanes are finally being cleaned up after the snow/ice storm we had on New Year's Day, and the week beyond. I was able to give the street sweeper the "thumbs up" yesterday as he cleaned up the street.

Frosty morning today, with temperatures hovering around -3 °C. The ride was great though, calm bright and sunny and I was dressed just right to stay warm without overheating.

Ed, my -3C this morning was on the balmy side compared to what we've been having!!
I had a tail wind to go with it today, did the 12 km in 25 minutes, almost summer speeds! Being a little late leaving home, I got to see a hint of dawn over the eastern horizon of Lake Onatario at around 6:40 am. The days are getting longer, we just need more warmer!

God how envyous I am of you all being able to commute to work. Right now, I am too scared to commute while it is still dark. I have to ride right out in traffic for about a mile and it is very heavy. I am afraid of that when it is dark. I have just a few more weeks until my commuting starts over again. God, I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

33F and very foggy this morning but traffic was light. by lunchtime it reached 40F & was sunny all afternoon, I rode my Bianchi back from lunch. In the afternoon I saw a novell approach to keeping your feet warm & dry: passed a commuter going the other way riding a hybrid of some kind. He was wearing hip waders! I am so happy to be back commuting. The past two months have been hectic for me. Today is the first chance I have had to ride in a long time! It feels so good to be riding to work again.

The temp for the ride in this morning was 24F. Cold but not bad. Still a few snowy and ice patches in some places. Great ride. Took my time and paced myself since it has been awhile.

Its good to be back!

Wow, A balmy 23 degrees this morning, thank god summer finally arrived. I rode in to work with only one jacket on and didn't even get cold. I had a great ride with no head wind for a change and it was just cold enough to keep the dirty puddles solid so the bike stayed clean. I did ride on black ice for most of the 18.5 miles, I can tell because the studs get quiet when they're on ice. This afternoon is forcasted to be a beauty, we should all have a great ride home.

I usually ride from the east side, coming into town along Dekalb Ave. and Edgewood Ave. Didn't ride this morning, though. Yesterday afternoon was nice, though!

Would be a great ride home for me today, over 50F and a small west tail wind.

My usual commute is from Clarkston through Medlock to the Emory/CDC area. Kinda hilly, but very light traffic for the most part. I'd probably have wimped out today if I'd gotten to ride yesterday, but I didn't so I was itching to get on the bike this morning. Bike commute is usually about 15 min faster than a car commute anyway since the area around Emory is usually solid gridlock during rush hour. I always find zipping around all the stopped cars to be very satisfying. :D

Made my first ride in a couple weeks. It has been very icy around here so I had been commuting by bus instead.

But the temps have been up and the roads are mostly clean, so I pedalled in today. I walked the bike through a couple icy patches in the park, but otherwise everything was fine. I did reduce the inflation in my Conti Top Touring tires (26x1.75) from 65 to 45psi.
