Not quite as warm as I was expecting this morning (thank God), my broken pannier rack is still limping on for the moment. I wonder how long this can last?
|
Is seemed warm and sunny here in the DC area this morning, so I left my overcoat on the bike rack and just rode. I was warm by the halfway point, and it was just glorious. In fact, I unbuttoned my suit jacket for the last mile.
After I arrived, I found the temperature was 37 F / 3C, which surprised me. Nevertheless, it looks and feels like Spring. I can just make out the buds on the trees. Paul |
Haven't commuted in a while so it was nice to be back on the bike. I dicovered one of my kids used my ear muffs while sledding and neglected to return them, there will be an appropriate councelling session this evening.
Had two deer run across the road just in front. Oddly enough, it was in an industrial area. Still beautiful to see on the ride. Nice to be back on the road. |
No bike ride this morning as I had to take Mrs. Caloso to a doctor's appointment. Called into work and discovered there's not much going on so I'm just going to stay home and start the weekend early.

Nice ride today, some high thin clouds (or fog maybe) and clear blue skies behind. It really looks nice now and has warmed up. Wish I wasn't so busy here at the grind I'd do a little lunch riding. Well, the weather people claim this will last for the weekend so maybe some rec riding will be in order.

Sweltering hot ride last evening, with the usual Friday morons in Surfers. I note that the reality of a permanent existence on the dole hasn't bitten the last Schoolies' Week intake yet -- their little crap-heaps haven't yet been repossessed by that evil big bad bank manager!
On the plus side, my broken pannier rack is still just about doing the job. On the minus side, it could be another week or more before I get to replace it. :( |
It was dry today, low clouds or fog in the AM which burned off for a sunny afternoon. I rode the Grand Jubile & really got up some speed which made a nice change from my normal commute pace. Don

1st commute of year
Did my first one of the new year. My new beater finally arrived, e-bay I love you, and thought I would take her out. About 15 km round trip, hills turns and stopsigns gallor. The big smoke needs bikelanes in a bad way, It was great to be back riding to work. I would have started sooner but my "real" bike is still too new and precious to be taken out in the snow. Was a nice day for a ride, about 1C and only a little rain. Looking forward to another 10 months of dodging cars and avoiding the door prize.

My schedule's stll a bit messed up so I only got one decent commute in last week. I've been focusing more on running than biking recently, using biking as secondary cross-training. I'll be reversing the focus before too long.
I was able to easily accomplsh a long "summertime" commute with a hill last week so I know I'm still A-OK for when I get serious about biking again. |
What a freaking fabulous commute today! 55F/12.7C degrees, blue skies with some white streaks, and wind picking up in the mid afternoon. The only downside is that I had to come in to work :( I did a good 20m /32 k ride as my commute though which was really great. I went out to industrial park land to get a package from FedEx and then just explored around out there as I made my way back. I have to say that my Novara Safari is like an adult version of my single speed "BMX" style bike I rode as a kid. You can bomb around anywhere on the bike. I was going from gravel trail, road, dirt trail, off road across a field and more in my meanderings today and it was a real blast. I was sad to finally hit the MUP and head in to work. And at that I remembered why I avoid the MUP on sunny weekend days -- it was packed with walkers, rollerbladers and bad bikers. Quite a strong headwind as well. Still I was riding in shorts and fingerless gloves for this first time in 4 months. Best thing is that tomorrow is supposed to be more of the same, and I ain't working :D

No commute today but I used up some of Saturday morning by riding about 10 miles south on the Chehalis Western trail. It was about 38F & a bit foggy but since it was early, there were only a few other bikers & the faithful few walkers out with their dogs. Later the fog burned off & we had a sunny day about 50F. Much better cycling weather but then again the trail was probably crowded with walkers, skaters etc. Don

Wet, snowy and icy. Made for a fun ride. People at work think I'm nuts but sure beats the bus.
|
Cold today, but bright and sunny. I had a lot of stuff to bring to work today, so the small backpack was stuffed to the gills. The scales at work read 6.7 kilos (a shade under 15 lbs)! It all provides extra excercise, especially up those hills..
Cheers, Ed |
Great commute, early spring like weather here in the twin towns (33F/.5C ;) ). I know, we've got allot of winter left but it feels great. I went to a meeting last Friday and found out that I acquired three more offices to be responsible for and I have to work one day in each of them a week (two days in my primary office, 8 miles one way). Well, I look at it this way, more variety in my commute. Distances are from 3 miles to 18 miles one way. We'll see how it goes, it all starts next Monday (March 1st). Oh, and I have to start wearing a tie and jacket (I currently wear business casual). Opps, sorry for the long post I just had to tell someone, thanks.

Great day, sunny, dry, almost no ice on the roads and temps bouncing around freezing. Took my hybrid, yea! no studded tire noise! It felt good to climb the hills on her, those little wheels let me stay on the big ring for most of my climbs. Roll on spring!

Today was great. Nice weather in VA, esp for a person used to NE Pa. I also found a new quicker route home from the gym. I go there after work, and sometimes my legs do not want to drag me on the 2 mile wind-blown straight away. This new way avoids it!
|
Best commute of 2004 so far. Temperature of only 25C or so, steady rain, a stirred-up south pacific and totally moron-free (a rarity around these parts)! What more can a spanky ask for?
|
Weather has been great lately. I went for another long ride Sunday in the late afternoon sunshine. There were a few showers today but not when I was commuting. I may have overdone it on the weekend since I felt tired after my regular work commute today. Don

Very nice weather this morning coming in. 41F. Warmer then what I expexted. Supposed to get some light rain today, hopefulley it stops for the ride home.

An idiot in a pickup truck got mad that I wasn't riding in the gutter. He kept honking, and then stayed on my left. Unfortunately, I let this moron make me mad. I spit on his truck and gave him a visual representation of what I wanted to say. He then picked up his cell phone and indicated he was about to make a call, as if this was supposed to be intimidating.
He hung back about twenty feet on my rear for a few blocks, effectively blocking both lanes of a major street. Fortunately, I hit a perfectly-timed yellow light that let me through but stopped him. I looked back, waved, and went on my way. I zigged and zagged over to a parallel route home so I could end it. I should have just smiled and waved at the idiot from the beginning. At least that wouldn't have escalated a confrontation between a 23 pound bike and a 2 ton truck. |
Had a great commute today. Weather is pretty crappy (40s and drizzling) but traffic was gridlocked like nobody's business at one point on my usual route. I'm suddenly happy as I get to zip by about 100 cars. As an added bonus, there are two Dekalb cops at the front end of the backup dishing out tickets left and right. This was all happening in a residential area, so I can only surmise the residents have been complaining to the cops about all the idiots who cut through doing 40+mph every morning.
I was...amused. :D |
Winter has decended across the UK again this week, and it is a return to very chilly commutes. Though there was little frost, it certainly reached somewhere below zero last night as there were plenty of frozen puddles to show for it. I was grateful to see that there was plenty of salt on the road.
Cheers, Ed |
First commute since late January! Boy I have some make-up to do. Its amazing how fast your body loses its conditioning.
The ride felt cold this morning. The temp at my place was around 25F/-4C. It felt much colder when I hit the river bottom. (Normally a few degrees colder down in the bottoms) I didn't even start to warm up until 4 or so miles into the ride. Its sure nice to have some natural light to ride by. The sunrise this morning was colorful. The ice on the Missouri is beginning to develop some open spots. Lots of geese squawking as I passed by. The fellow next door warned me about 'Rattle Snakes' yesterday. I guess they are a problem on the route in the spring when they first come out and again in the fall just before hibernation. Could be interesting to commute through the snakes. :( I guess horse manure isn't enough.. |
This is the second time I bike into work from my new place. I recently moved from 1.5 miles from work to about 12 miles from work, so now my commute is a much bigger deal. My shoulder's a little sore, so I'll drive tomorrow, but hopefully I can go twice this week, and build up from there. I wasn't so cold as last week, though. Partly because the sun is up a little earlier, and partly because I wore gloves and a hat.
Here's hoping that I'll achieve my goal of biking every day, Tim |
I took yesterday off as I rather overdid the biking on Sunday (well that and I forgot to turn my alarm clock on and got up 2 hours late) Still feeling a bit sore from Sunday but it was syill a good ride in. Fairly grey but with the clouds breaking up and letting some sun out. Lots of chirping birds out and signs of growth on trees and in the grass. Seems like an early spring this year.
|
This morning it was raining ice pellets that kept getting in my eyes, kinda hard to see, so coming around a corner i hit a little spot of nasty mud that flew up at me and got all over me(its fender time baby)...afternoon it stopped, but was a little cloudy. Pulled up behind a garbage truck going home, horrible stench, luckilly he turned and the road was mine. Ive found that riding in the right side tire track of the road leads to less nerve racking passes by idiots in cars, but makes them very upset.
|
58F for the ride home! Wow! Is this what spring will be like? I have forgotten the freedom of riding in just a jersy and bike shorts!
Bring on spring!!! |
The sap buckets are out in the sugurbush, spring is definately on it's way. It still has to go below freezing nights, but if it warms above freezing during the day the sap runs. I love the sight of those buckets.

Warm showers this morning & sun breaks by 11 AM. We got some wind & a few branches came down. The office lost power just as I left to ride home for lunch. It was still out when I got back. Finally came on about 2:30 PM. That left only about an hour until time to go home. Our "paperless" office isn't very efficient without the computers, but I did get through my afternoon phone calls in record time. We are definitely heading for an early Spring, the frogs began their annual songfest about 2 weeks ago, just a few at first but now there are hundreds. This usually happens mid-March so it should be a great year. Don

Cold, cold, cold. Did I mention cold with snow. A nice sunny -10c today, the wind made it feel more like -20. My eyes kept watering and and the tears kept freezing on my glasses. Still the sun was shining and the roads were good. Could be worse I suppose.
