Welcome new commuter AG7KinMT

.... and welcome to the best way to get to work. If somebody took away my daily bike ride it would be truly upsetting. Especially this morning as the excercise helped to overcome the slightly fuzzy feeling that was a reminder that I shouldn't go to the pub on Sunday nights.

Cheers,

Ed

Another welcome for AG7KinMT! Great first effort!

It was about 40 F (4 C) with a gusty NW wind, but my daughter's school bus was running, so I was not pulling a trailer. The ride seemed effortless, and was very fast. It is amazing how some uphill striler pulling quickly builds strength.

Hey, way to go AG7KinMT! My wife is a Director of a pre-school and she rides to work too during the summer. More power to you for starting now, I'm sure your husband is proud of you, way to go. I had a nice commute this morning, 18F/-7C, cloudy (again). It's suppose to get sunny and a high near 40F but as I look out the window it's snowing like crazy out there and it's 28 degrees! I guess I'm glad I didn't take my "snow" tires off.

Yesterday, I did my first pre-test ride for the season to work and it was great! I will be ready to start commuting next week.

Stubacca 03-08-04 11:16 AM

Great weather for the ride in this morning. Had to take the jacket off after about 9 miles (15 mile ride). It's strange to be feeling warm on a ride again. :)

I'm having an extremely frustrating day at work so far, and absolutely can't wait for the ride home. Maybe I'll get out of here early...

Way to go! It'll only get easier and more enjoyable as both your fitness and the weather improve. :)

I had an eye doctor appointment this moning so I rode in for that. Got the '78 Raleigh Grand Prix out for the 2nd time this year. What a great ride! Temps were in the low 50Fs. The ride back home (with dialated eyes) was even better! Sunny and 67F! Winds were light at 14MPH. I set my best average speed to date at 14.9MPH.

BRING ON SUMMER!

Kodama 03-08-04 03:09 PM

Today is an absolutely beautiful day here in the PNW, a downright shame to be punching keys indoors. Temps were in the mid to upper 50s as I rode in w/o a cloud in the sky. Mt. Rainer (or THE Mountain) was dominating to the East looking very fluffy and snow covered from the winter. Shoulda brought my camera as I wasn't able to get a pic of Rainer in my Commute Picture taking of a few weeks ago. Anyway I must be solar powered 'cause my commute was back up to speed. Lots of other riders out but still few enough that everybody was nicely spaced out. Great day and I wished I could have ridden on...

No wind to speak of and a couple of degrees C above freezing on the way into work this morning. Unfortunately I was late leaving work so it was a dark ride home in the evening.

Spring snow here. Back onto my winter MTB. NiteRider helmet light gave out on the way home. Good thing I had handlebar light too. The way batteries have been croaking on me, I'm about to join the Geeks-r-Us brigade.

Today's officially my day off, but because of some work that needs to be done on Wednesday I went in to work anyway. A little later than usual, though. It was nice and warm on the way in. I left work a little early too, figuring I had no obligation to actually be there. Apparently we're setting all kinds of record temps today. It was [B]much[B] warmer than usual on the ride back. First time I actually drained my entire (20oz) water bottle on a commute. Since I had time I stopped by an orchid grower place on the way back. They had an impressive collection of flowers. This week's goal is 4 days of bike commuting.

Windy on the way home today, but it was the first ride in ages where I've worn a short sleve jersey the whole way, and half the ride was after the sun set! Bring on summer!

Bad news was I broke a spoke just before home, so won't be able to ride tomorrow :(. My bike mechanic skills aren't quite up to fixing wheels yet, so I guess I'll head out to the LBS tomorrow at lunchtime.

After last week with temps down around the mid to high 20s I'd begun to think summer was finally over. No such luck. It was around 30C this morning at 7:00am, about 3000% humidity and not so much of a puff of a breeze, and it looks like the rest of the week will be the same. Come on winter!

Sadly, I'd say we've got another three weeks or so of summer left yet. :(

Apart from the weather, it was a reasonably comfortable ride this morning. Traffic seemed a little more than usual at that time of day, but then, I've only been riding this route for a week or so. Should offer plenty of lane-splitting opportunities on the way home!

Best early March day I can remember down here in the South Sound. On my morning ride in, the sun hadn't risen yet but we were getting a lot of light out there. Soon I can "lighten ship" by stripping off the batteries & lights. I had a dental appointment at Noon & when that was over, I noticed the outside temp on the way home was 66F. Now that I finally managed to post my first digital photo, I will have to get some commuting pictures up. Don

There was supposed to be snow on the ground this morning when I woke up. The weatherman was wrong again which is good for me.

Had a great commute in. temps in the low 30's(F) and light traffic. There was plenty of salt on the road for the snow that we never got. A couple of times I got a mouthfull of salt dust, that sucked.

Ed Holland 03-09-04 06:43 AM

Tired old commute for me this morning - at least to start. After the first climb things perked up and I found a good pace. It is rather cold today - the weather forecast mentioned snow in parts of the UK.

Cheers,

Ed

69 degrees yesterday morning at 6:45am...
68 degrees this morning...
It's still winter here in SoCal

bradw 03-09-04 10:15 AM

Temps in the 30s (F), windy, overcast and sprinkling.

I'm still having problems with drivers at 4-way stops.

They hit the intersection well before I do, and try to wave me through before I've come to a stop.

I don't like this crap. I don't know if they are actually waving me through or gesturing at something else. I always stop, point at them, and signal for them to just take their damned turn. Often they signal back, and I just stare the other way until they finally take their damned turn.

I want traffic to be orderly and predictable. Breaking the rules at stop signs doesn't do me any favors.

Zin 03-09-04 10:50 AM

Nice day agn today. Temps in the mid 40sF and mostly sunny. Of course the winds are back today around 20MPH this morning. Predicting gusts over 40MPH this afternoon. High temp predicted to be 64F!

Boy, I'd kill for warm weather like that. ;)

froody 03-09-04 01:20 PM

Yup, warm in SoCal. Actually, I wouldn't mind 5 degrees cooler in the mornings, and probably 10 degrees cooler in the evenings. But there you have it. At least the humidity is pretty low.
Had a good ride in. I think I've settled on a route from the beach to work. It has a lot of stop signs, but they're all 4-way, and traffic on the road isn't so bad.

Wow, another ride into the wind. 33MPH head/cross wind gust to 40. Temp. of 66F & cloudy. Was on the road bike today. It is a mazing how much the wind blows you around on it vs. my heavy commuter bike. Another day of shorts and jersey! I could get used to this. :)
