Really nice morning today -- far too nice to end up at work :( It is supposed to get up to 80F today and was already mid 60s when I set out. Shorts and t-shirt weather for sure, any hotter I may need to get some cycling sandals :) Perfectly blue skies, Mt. Rainier looming in the distance and a bit of variable wind. Lots of people out, but not enough to crowd the trail. I won't be using the trail for the ride home though.

Great day to be on the bike! Temps in the low to mid 70s. High thin clouds. Bit of a headwind coming home. 45MPH winds predicted for tomorrow and mid 80s! Snow predicted for Wednesday. Ahhhh, spring time in Montana. :)

81F down here on the other side of Mt Rainier. I spent the weekend + today gardening as we were facing a total weed takeover. Overdid it & managed to set myself back on healing whatever I did to hurt my rib cage last week so I only managed a short ride Sunday. Tomorrow its back to work & commuting again. Looking forward to it. Been watching for a bike I won on e-Bay several weeks ago, title was "2 mavic rims attached to Bike, unknown type". Starting bid was $5.00 & I was the only bidder. Picture wasn't very good but the frame has axle adjusting screws & the brakeset, wheels & other parts are probably worth $5 + shipping, so I'm hopeful. The derailleurs are Sachs/Huret so its probably a French bike. I will either clean it up into a good rider or strip it for parts. Don

First ride with my overhauled bike... what a ride... though I didn't test it before going to work - so I discovered my rear axle nut right side wasn't tight enough so the tire hit the steel... no big deal -- first ride with the sachs 3 spd... (used to be single speed) averaged 18mph .. now it only takes 8 or 10 minutes to get to work! And it sure is a purty lookin' bike.

This morning was a bit chilly (40's), and I had a pretty strong head wind on my commute (16miles). Going to work us uphill, cant wait to come home!
Mentally it was my hardest commute. I just couldnt get into it. My average speed sucked at 16mph. Take the good and the bad I guess. |
Sunny upper 50's this morning! 20MPH winds. Overall a very nice day. No crazies, no dogs, and no geese trying to get a piece of me. (well, I guess there was the crazy fat guy on the bike, but that is another story)

Awesome - about 55 F, light sweater was good.
Left the bar at about 5:15pm, passed 3 buses leaving downtown. Passed two more stopped at the red light just before the liquor store. Stopped, bought beer. Leave liq, see two buses from downtown just catching me. Hit one-way street w/ bike path that goes right to the block I live on. Jump two blocks of traffic light created car groups, hit every light at green. Get to the last light, the one I live on is the next block... Cars stacked 6 deep at a red light in the forward lanes, 3 cars in the right bike lane waiting to turn, 4th car merging in to the bike lane then turning into the white castle at the end of the block. All three cars waiting to turn got a bird tapped on their driver side door window for being in the bike lane, I hit the light at green, moved into the crosswalk and made a quick right to go the last half block home on the side walk. Got honked at by one of the people turning after they turned and returned another bird... Awesome... |
How was the commute today? In a word. Windy! Wind:From the West Southwest at 25 gusting to 43 mph. Temp 80F. This translates into head/cross wind. I knew it was coming so mentally prepared for it ahead of time. Good practice spinning! :)

50 degrees and a slight tail wind for me in Chicago this morning...doesn't get much better! Wind gusts of 40+ mph forecast for this afternoon. Payback is a *$&@

Hi Folks,
Our long run of beautiful spring weather was well and truly broken today. This morning's ride was wet and rather windy to say the least. Judging by the traffic queues, however, it was still a better option than driving - it was quite satisfying to overtake about 30-40 cars at the queue to the lights whilst riding up the centre line of the road. Luckily on the stretch in question there are no side turnings. Cheers, Ed |
Windy here, too. 20mph from the SW, with some gusting to go along with it. Took me an extra 5 or so minutes to cover my 12-and-a-bit miles today.
Pleasant otherwise, apart from the guy in the F350 who insisted on proving how much of a big man he was... poor little fella couldn't even cope with waiting behind me for one intersection. His revving of his engine behind me at least clued me in to his insecurities beforehand. :D |
Well, I took off for my eye doctor appointment this morning at 7:30AM. The temperature was 30F. Snow ball snow driven by a 40MPH wind right into my face. The snow felt more like ICE razers hitting my face. I had my funny "Gorton Fishermans" rain gear on. I looked like a big yellow banana on a bike. By the time I hit the city limits, I was coated in ice. Even had a nice ice cycle haging from my mirror. The ride home was much better once I got back outside the city limits. The wind to my back. Riding in the same direction as the HORIZONTAL SNOW was much easier. Next time I do such a thing I will wear my belaclava!

In Ames currently the winds are out of the south at 40mph with peak gusts of 52mph. It may get stronger before I leave work. I'm headed north all the way home...Wahoo, I may set some personal records!

Great ride today with mostly clear skies and low variable winds (got a decent tailwind for a couple of miles) Temperature was in the mid50s(F) and was quite comfortable for today's ride in. I was out of lunch fixin's today so I did a quick ride to a local Subway for lunch and that was a nice 5mile ride in the middle of the day.
Yesterday I had a to get into the city by an early time so I took the ol car. The weather turned out to be crazy yesterday- high winds, driving rain, hail there was even a funnel sighted! Trees were down everywhere and power was out for thousands of people. In retrospect I don't feel too bad that I didn't ride that day, though I'm sure I'd have had some good stories to tell. |
I was riding home from class tonight, and I was coming up on the 90 degree left hand turn that starts the last stretch of the ride. There is a curb on both sides of the road. I was traveling at about 20-22 mph, and didn't feel like slowing to take the turn. I overshot the turn a little bit, and as I looked down as I approached the curb(I was leaning full over)I realized that I was WAYYYY too close to the solid concrete that would end me...by the time I made the turn, my front tire had come about ONE INCH from the curb!!! That got my heart going for sure!!

Beautiful commute today, cool & clear in the morning warm with a light breeze in the afternoon: Yesterday was different: quite breezy in the morning and at Noon with constantly shifting winds so that I seemed always to be riding against a head wind or struggling to keep from being blown off track. In the afternoon, the wind kicked up noticeably, no rain or hail but lots of big dark clouds to the North & West. Wind was gusting up to 50 MPH from the NorthWest which is really unusual, lots of big branches blowing around & a few trees came down. Right after I arrived home our electric power went out for the night. Didn't come back on until about 10:35 PM when I had just drifted off to sleep. Had to get up & turn off lights & radio which I had missed at bedtime. Don

Light drizzle this morning after apparently some decent rain last night. My rear derailleur has apparently shat itself as it isn't shifting the way I'd like to. Not really an issue on my commute, but it was a pain the backside out at Hinze Dam last night.
|
Windy in Kansas today too. Gusts up to 45 MPH were expected and I believe it. Temp was nice though. Average cycling speed to work, about 10 mph, coming back home 25 mph. Well, no, I don't really know about the speeds because I don't use any electronics, but it seemed slow going in and fast coming home.
|
Wow, lot's of you have the wind huh?
Cooled down to 52deg this morning, a bit cloudy, back to the typical spring like conditions... Oh ya, and no wind :P |
Still windy on the ride home yesterday, but for once it was a tailwind, and a 20mph one!!! I covered the 12 miles to home in 35 minutes, which made me think hard about changing the gearing on the commuter - I spun out 6 times during the ride at about 28-30mph, including twice on the flats.
No ride in today as I had an early meeting and didn't feel like riding in the rain before it, but I did get my wife to drop me and my bike here so that I can ride home this afternoon. |
Cold morning. 24F/-4C. Light breeze. Many patches of ICE to watch out for from the snow storm yesterday. Bright sun. I couldn't get comfortable on the bike this morning. Hands on bars, feet on peddles, nor but on saddle felt right. It almost felt like I was on someone elses bike. Well, the extra layers and cold bones made for a slower commute, but still felt great when I got to the office.
