Nice start this morning but it starting raining pretty hard about 3 miles from work, just enough to get everything wet. All in all, a great spring ride to work.

My ride home last night was great. Light traffic and tailwinds. It was a pretty humid though. The ride in this morning was nice. It was wet again from the rain last night. Nice cool temps. |
Nice ride this morning, 8 degree Celcius and practically no wind. My eyes couldn't stop crying though, with the cold :D

The SUN was out this morning. Haven't seen it in a while. Nice ride, moderate crosswind. Only one crabby driver who honked at me when I took the lane to make a left. Traffic was already slowed to my speed, so its not like I was slowing her down any! Aside from that, beautiful ride.

After a week of hauling my bike a part of the way to work and riding the rest, I finally worked up the guts to commute the full 13 miles. I was worried about a fairly busy 1/2 mile stretch of road, but didn't have any problems on the way in. We'll see how it goes on the way home. I have to say that once I get to work after riding, I have much more energy than when I drove, not less.

My Rose in the morning
Picked up a new bike yesterday. Gary Fisher (utopia). Nice bike for a commute to work. Before I left my wife reminded me to take time and smell the roses (I have been trying to beat my best time). I was taking it ease and saw the most beautiful rose in the world. My daughter who is 7 almost 8 yrs old goes to a hard of hearing school about 26 miles from home. She is taken there by a special Ed bus which has to pick up one other person on its way. It just so happens that this bus passes the trial I ride to work about 5 miles from the house. This particular morning a was a little late in getting started and wouldn't you know as I was coming on the crossing there was the most beautiful rose in the world looking out the window of the bus with a big smile waving excitedly at me. I am not afraid to say it brought a tear of joy to my eyes. My God is good. The best morning commute yet! |
40F this morning with a steady rain. I don't have riding clothes for rain, so dawned the BANANA suite (yellow rain paints & coat). Was nice to ride in the rain. We need the mosture big time.
I feel pretty good this morning. Still a bit of a head ache and my neck muscles are sore, but nothing bad enough to get me off of the bike. I can feel the gash in my thigh when peddling, kind of a strange sensation. When inspecting the peddle that broke I noted that it looks to have been "cracked" in half for some time. The area of "fresh break" was not even half way through the "spindle." The break was in an area that was not visible to me when I perform my inspections. The moral to this story? Don't trust the peddles that come on your thrift store bikes! |
Colder today (50 F at 6:00 AM) and overcast with moderate wind but the streets are still dry at lunchtime. Mrcard, a fellow commuter at work, who like me has numerous bikes to choose from, mainly rides a Gary Fisher Utopia. He is a randonneur & puts hundreds more miles per month on than I do. His Gary Fisher bike just recently required a new wheelset build because his brakes had almost worn through the side rims both front & rear, they had a concave shape & the rear wheel had developed a wobble that couldn't be trued out. Good riding

19 degrees C this morning, what passes for late autumn out here. Copped a pretty ordinary run with traffic lights, but that's about normal. Traffic surprisingly light. |
Humid ride home last night and no wind. The new tires are doing great. They are giving me a nice ride.
The ride this morning was good. Slight wind at my face but not bad. Took my time in and relaxed. |
70 and very humid for the ride in today, so I took it easy with the help of a slight tailwind. Heavy storms due later today, with temps in the mid 80s...I might be taking the train home (bikes are allowed until 4pm, and then after 6pm).

Excellent ride this morning. Temperature was around 58, no wind and there seemed to be an abundance of oxygen in the air. I stopped to take it all in about 3 miles from the office (trip is 17.5 miles) and realized I was turning my fastest time ever. I managed to keep it up all the way in.

warm and humid this morning. When I got to work, I looked like I just steped out of the shower. I rode the 7500 today instead of the trusty 400. I find I don't like it as well. Hope I get used to it.
RIP '89 Trek 400 :( Last night, I had a bunch of drivetrain issues. Tight chain link, Front der. all out of alignment, indexing off. I think someone must have done something to it while it was locked up. Anyway, I tried to fix it. I got the chainlink fixed, and the front der. fixed, but the rear still doesn't work quite right, and the whole thing makes an aweful racket, even after lubing it. I know I could take it to the shop and get it working again, but I have 3 bikes, and I only use two, so I'll just sell the 400 at a charity garage sale, and be happy with the road-bike and the commuter/gravel trail bike. |
What a difference a day makes. Low 40s and blazing sunshine this morning. Met another bike commuter about half way through the city portion of my commute headed the other direction. First time seeing this fellow. The other guy I meet at about same place runs much later than I do now-a-days.
Still looking to meet up with Kern on a commute one of these days! :) |
Nice ride in today. My girl friend and I commuted up to our split point. The house as usual was shrouded in thick fog up till just past the school zone, about 2 miles then beautiful sunny skies. Then a 'bike path' to old farm gravel dirt road. It's a little longer that way but a nice ride. I road my fixie w/ messenger bag, she road treck hybrid with panniers.

Really nice riding this morning in the DC area. Low humidity, temps in the high 60's, dramatic skies, and a slight tailwind, all things that are going to be hard to come by very soon. I really noticed a difference this morning in my energy level as I had carbed up with pizza last night. I was averaging around 20 mph which is something I haven't been able to do in a while as I've been on a carb-restricted diet (trying to drop some lbs). I broke down last night and split a large pizza with a friend-she said that she noticed a difference too. Looks to be a nice ride home, that is if the rain holds off.

Great temperature this morning - very enjoyable ride! The legs are feeling strong this week after the century ride last weekend. It was nice to be back on the bike today after not being able to commute at the start of this week (meetings all over town).

Today is Bike To Work Day in Sacramento. There were quite a few groups of riders on the American River Bike Trail. I think there was some effort to organize rides for new commuters led by experienced riders. It's a nice sight. And today's weather is perfect.
I'm hoping to walk over to the Cal-EPA Building for the Bike Fest as soon as I can get away from my desk. I can always use a free water bottle. |
Fully overcast day today, but the clouds look thin and should burn off during the afternoon. Temps in the low 60s (f) very light wind. Good to be back on the bike today after taking yesterday off whilst the bike was in the shop. Speaking of which I was getting the bike checked out and tuned up for my upcoming tour and it really needed it. New cassette, chain, Front brake cable, rear brake cable, wheels trued etc. I can't believe how much better it rides now, it has really been fighting me the last few weeks. The wrench at Sammamish Valley Cycles found out that the front brake was rubbing, but only when you were riding the bike. I had suspected something like this but it was impossible to track down. New cables, housing and adjustments fixed that. Shifting is now smooth and my drive train pristine. A pleasure to ride.
