woohoo 10% chance of rain tonight! I will be glad of even a dust storm or some clouds though (especially if there is a tailwind involved!). I rode home in 103 degree heat yesterday and this mornings ride in was 88 at 8:00 AM. Nice warm commutes. Glad to see clouds around though. Perhaps the Monsoons getting ready to start.

Well, it's been a little while since I've been on here. I guess I'm just getting absorbed by the summer weather (a little cool, but I'll take it). I took Monday off and did a day ride, a little over 90 miles, the weather was nice and I had a great time. I just headed west, I had no plans, and just explored, it was wonderful. I had a nice ride in to one of my four offices this morning that I thought was the farthest away and found out it wasn't... hmmm, go figure. The weather is great, it should be a great ride home. Isn't summer wonderful?

Zin 06-23-04 05:19 PM

Great ride home! Temp in the low 80s! Little wind. The river was full of rafters, boaters, and "floaters." I had to move out into the lane when a couple of gals carrying an innertube wouldn't move over as they walked towards me. It seems to me that if your belly is as big as mine, ladies you should not be in a bikini!

EDIT: Sorry for the poor grammer.

Kodama 06-23-04 06:29 PM

Clouded up and the 80s(f) are a thing of the past. I'm sure they'll be back, but I was starting to fear of an overly hot summer. Still some wind of course, wouldn't be summer without that ;)

Just be careful what you wish for. I've ridden through dust storms, and let me tell you, they are the one thing in the world worse than heat! I'd be praying for hail instead.

Laika 06-23-04 10:32 PM

Moved pretty quickly again this morning, but this evening I deliberately took it easy, although I did take my usual (and unjustified) glee in blowing by all the club riders in the park with my heavy bag on my back and my bike that probably cost less than their rear derailleurs. Woohoo!

mrfix 06-24-04 04:38 AM

Nice clear cool morning ride in, I took the long way through the country side so I could watch the sun rise when I crest a hill about half way here, and what a beauty she was, the sky is clear and the sun was like a ball of fire comming up over the horizon, I'll tell you, most people miss so much living life in the busy fashion that they do. The total ride distance was 46 miles. It's great riding a 5:00 AM, there's no one on the road.

Chris L 06-24-04 05:06 AM

Well, "winter" is back to normal. 20 degrees C on the ride home tonight, yes, I was in short sleeves. Seems some hoon in a bus carrying Japanese tourists wanted to try some rat running in the traffic. Didn't help him one bit, and I let out a little Sayonara (sp?) as I blew right by him. God I love gridlock!

Nice relaxing ride in this morning. I took my time and enjoyed the weather and peace and quiet. Really nice ride.

Shroom 06-24-04 06:12 AM

Last night's commute was poo. I went cruising right into the center of construction on a street I use. There wasn't any construction 9 hours earlier when I went for my excersize ride. I had two front end loaders circling around me and a dump truck flying up my trunk.

Ed Holland 06-24-04 08:21 AM

Horribly windy (weather) again this morning. At one point I had to shift to a lower gear on a downhill section....

Cheers,

Ed

Nice ride in this morning. Everything was fresh from the thunderstorms last night. I was going to take some photos of my commute, but the heavy clouds does it no justice. I'll wait for a sunny morning.

I did get a rather minor dust storm right as I was turning into my neighborhood. Headwinds were probably between 20 and 30 mph and the dust wasn't so bad I couldn't see so it was a nice dust storm (The bad ones I agree can be very dangerous and are probably not too healthy on the lungs either). Hail would be nice but a storm around here that can drop hail in the middle of the summer is usually strong enough to include microbursts which have 100 mph winds at times. Anyway the humidity climbed yesterday and the 103 degree temperature that wasn't so bad in the last few days actually got a little warm today (maybe it was just hot because I was in a hurry though and worked harder).

Had the best commute ever on the way home last night, after repairing my broken chain. Then this morning I took a different route to work than I have taken before and took some of the back roads for a couple of miles. It was very relaxing, and neat ride. Weather was nice, cool but not cold, and clear skies. Last night there were thunderstorms but I managed not to get rained on, and the wind was at my back the whole ride home, did 15-22mph the whole way home, and had lots of fun keeping up with traffic for about 2 miles, since they had lots of stoplights.

I'm SO glad I ride my bike to work and back... I will never drive again, when I can ride instead!

mtessmer 06-24-04 02:11 PM

Yep, a different direction today and a great (a little cool for this time of year) ride of sixteen miles. Yesterday after work I waited out a nasty storm (about 15 minutes) and had a dry ride home... although there were some pretty deep puddles. Who knows what my ride home today will be like. Life is grand when you can bike.

caloso 06-24-04 02:28 PM

Very proud of myself for replacing a broken spoke and retruing my wheel. It's not much, but it's a good feeling to become a little bit more self sufficient.

On bike trail in to downtown I followed a guy on a 3-wheeled recumbent, a really cool looking machine. And he was keeping a pretty consistent 19mph pace. I'm not sure I'd want to be that low to the ground but it looked fun.

Zin 06-24-04 04:52 PM

Another great commute home. This time bikinis that were worth looking at down at Broadwater Bay. :D

Paul L. 06-24-04 07:29 PM

Very hot commute home. 106 degrees with rising humidity. Got to fill up my water bottle out of the bike shops nice and cool cooler when I bought a tire. Ended up with a near 2 hour commute and was about broiled by the time I got home.

ollo_ollo 06-24-04 10:30 PM

We had a total overcast day, which is normal Northwest June weather. Had a quiet ride in, & chatted with another rider while waiting for a light. I didn't ride yesterday, just worked 4 hours then spent the rest of the day doing tractor work across town at our church. With 2 tractors, we managed to grade out a play field and mow 10 acres to keep the Scotch broom under control for another year. Don

mrfix 06-25-04 04:27 AM

Last night I had to push a strong head wind all the way, I got my first flat of the year, i ran over a shattered beer bottle and flatted the rear tire. This mornings ride in was clear, cool with no wind, the forcast is rain for the afternoon ride home.

Chris L 06-25-04 04:31 AM

Reasonably pleasant ride home this evening, still in short sleeves of course (around 20 degrees C I think, maybe a bit warmer). A few head-shakes in Broadbeach at some of the goings on, but that's nothing unusual for a Friday evening.

ridealot 06-25-04 05:23 AM

Nice ride home last night. A slight headwind but not as bad as it could be. The ride in this morning was pleasant again, nice cool tempatures and light traffic.

creep dog 06-25-04 07:31 AM

With the temp at 70 this morning I couldn’t wait to get on the bike. It was so nice that when I caught up to another commuter he admitted that he had already passed his turn to work so he could keep on riding. We rode for a while together and talked MTN biking before he had to peel off and head in the right direction for work. With the combination of the nice weather and riding with another commuter I accidentally shaved about 3 and half minutes off my usual commute time. Oops.

Take care amigos,
CD

RicardoJM 06-25-04 07:50 AM

Interesting ride in this morning, there was an obstacle track on the path (see thread). The weather was great, temps in the mid 50's. As part of the bike to work week activity we have a group ride at work later this morning. That and the ride home this afternoon should make this my highest mileage day of the year.

Zin 06-25-04 09:48 AM

Around 50F this morning.
I can't believe I am going to use the "C" word! We don't normally do that in this part of Montana. To do so is a harbinger of bad luck.

Wind was "CALM"

There, I did it! I'll likely be fighting a 40MPH head wind on the way home tonight thanks to my reckless use of words!
