Finally giving mechanical attention to my commuter bike after ten years. The bike has who knows how many miles on it and still had all the original parts. Replacing chain, cassette, big chain ring, bottom bracket. I'm out of money this week so I had to wait on the chain ring and bottom bracket. I rode my mountain bike while wearing high top hiking shoes this morning. It was an interesting contrast -- riding a mountain bike on the road after riding a hybrid and road bike all summer.

44F with a high, broken layer of thin clouds @ 6AM today. Rode down South Bay road about a mile) without encountering a single car in either direction. Alone in the dark within my circle of light. Supposed to be 68 today & dry all week.

Cold, cold, cold this morning, but back up toward tolerable this afternoon. When I went out this morning, it seemed pretty warm (maybe 50F?), and not raining, so I changed from some tights to shorts, and headed out. Pretty soon the temps started dropping, and it started to mist. I was a little cool, but I thought I was going to be ok. Then the temperature started to plummet, and I swear the mist turned into sleet for a while. Not a pleasant thing in very thin spandex. I arrived at work shivering, red and drippy nosed, with co-workers asking me why I continue to insist on wearing shorts and sandals when it is October in Vermont. I dunno, I guess I keep hoping for another shot at Indian Summer and the temps will jump up into the 80's again!

I'll be riding my new commuter bike tomorrow morning for the first time and am really excited. I recently got an '89 Centurion road bike on Ebay and just finished getting it ready to do duty as my dedicated commuter. I upgraded to 700 x 28 Bontrager Select K touring tires, installed SPD Ritchey mtb pedals, and replaced the loose ball bearing bottom bracket with a new Shimano cartridge type. I took it for a spin this evening and adjusted everything and installed my lights. Eventually I plan to make it a single speed, but that may wait until January or so.

Nice ride in and cool ride home.
It had to be about 44 temp on the way home .

Could post this under thread about helmets...Had a typical ride home from a meeting at work..But, It seems stuff always happens to me under freeways in Temecula..
It seems this interchange just does not like me...Motorists are usually jerks under the 15 bridge.
New event today...I was under the overpass...Heard a clanking up above ... Something , I think fell off of a passing truck..The clanking...It looked like a large wrench hit a freeway rail...It was...Came down about 10 feet away...A pipe wrench about 8 inches long...Hit the pavement with a loud thud.. Would my helmet have helped? How could this happen. ?
We don't get rain here..It just rains pipe wrenches..Sort of freaked me out as I heard it fall. And I had my better road bike,too.

Humid, humid and more humid. How can it get this humid without actually raining?

high forties this morning with a strong head wind, my ride to work was slow, fall is here and winter will follow shortly. This afternoon is forcasted to be nice, mid 60's and calm.

Cool ride in this morning, low 40's for the tempature. Was a little tired but fell good once i got to work.

For the first time in two weeks I was back on my bike! I was surprised with how quickly I needed to down shift.

With a dusting of cloud cover, new moon in 2 days, head band over my ears deadening any sound, and nary a car on the road at 5:45am, the only way it could be more tranquil would be if I were asleep, but then I wouldn’t realize the tranquility. I was in a zone!

I included a picture of the scenery on my commute this morning; the picture includes sound just turn up your speakers! Unfortunately technology is not advanced enough to allow me to include the barnyard smell that I enjoyed as well.

40 degrees and sunny here in Central PA. Nice ride this morning. Great day to be alive and on a bike.

45F degrees. No rain like yesterday. Mostly-cloudy, but enough breaks to let the sunlight hit the east slopes of the Adriondack Mountains, which are ablaze with leaf color.

I played tag with an MTB. He passed me when I was stopped talking to a friend I ran into. Eventually I reeled him in. He ran stop signs. I stopped for stop signs, and reeled him in again. I'm easily amused.

40F this morning, quite a nice temperature for riding. The sun was out, and the exercise felt so good. Woke me right up, and I got to work red-faced. Can't wait for the warmer ride back.

45 F / 7 C this bright, sunny morning. I wore my sport jacket and would not have been overdressed with my coat and even gloves. Having spent the weekend in summer-like conditions on a small island of the North Carolina coast, it was fun to be back in autumn again.

It was a pretty good commute. Although it sure seems darker in the am than it did on Thursday. I guess that 1.5 minutes less sunlight each day really adds up. I seemed to just sail right along this morning either due to feeling stonger after a few days off or the LBS really worked their magic last week when they tuned up my bike. It was 4C and overcast with a light breeze.

I hope everone has a safe commute.

Cool this morning, around 40 when I left home and 45 when I arrived at work. A bit of sunshine meant I stripped the sleeves off the jacket after about 5 miles. Legs felt great, so I made pretty decent time.

It was great to be back on the commuting bike again today after 7 straight weeks of out-of-town work. I've been getting in some good weekend riding on the roadie, but for some reason I enjoy commuting even more. Especially when riding down the bike lane past long lines of cars stuck in traffic!

A Beautiful 40+ this morning. I finally got a chance to wear some of my new bike clothes and they kept me cozy the who way in. I finally got a chance to ride again after some family issues that needed tending to. I hope to ride the rest of the week. I am really enjoying my bike commuting. I can't believe it took me so long to come around to this way of life. I guess I needed the cost of gas to go up so high in order to make some changes.

42 when I left home with the sun just beginning to come up behind me. Ten and a half miles later I was in my office thoroughly exhilerated from the ride across the prairie. Looking forward to the ride home, should be in the high 50's by then.

Can you imagine if it had hit a windshield or let's say an open convertible speeding along..Up above the truck really seemed to be moving at a high pace.Would not seem a pipe wrench would just be perched atop a bridge rail...Must have been blown off of the truck..

Who would have thought it? If you overhaul your rear hub, put in round ball bearings, and grease it up, you'll go faster!?!?!? This is amazing. I think I'm on to something, here.

I rebuilt the rear hub over the weekend, and the ballbearings were not round, if you tested them by rolling them in your fingers. After adjusting the cones to the right setting, I gained several mph on my ride. I can't wait to see how it does over the week. I figure some of that is from not riding over the weekend and eating healthful foods, but it can't all be from that.

I can't wait until I've saved up for an American Classic hub for the back. The front one spins so nicely...

I got a call at work... "You need to be home in 15 minutes"! I didn't make it, as my commute is 13 miles! I was home in 50 minutes, and that included wrapping up what I was working on, changing cloths, and answering the cell phone 3 times in route! 20.3 mph average!!

When I arrived at home my daughter wasn't even ready to go!

crap day at work, but it was all better after 9 miles in the saddle.....until i had to explain to my wife what was so crappy about work today

oh well.....I'll just sit here and drink some beer and shop for a new bike online, then get up early and get a good ride tomorrow morning.

45F with patchy fog at 6AM today, had a quiet ride in. 65F & sunny at 3:30 PM.
Wildlife highlights today: 1. A peregrine falcon that made a low gliding pass over me as I was leaving the parking lot for my lunch commute home. 2. A 2 point buck that was spooked out of the woods this morning by construction activity next to where I work. He spent a while strolling around our parking lot watching the earth moving activity next door where some of his woods used to be, then he calmly strolled through 4 lanes of heavy traffic on Martin Way & disappeared into the trees. Don

Wow 20 mph average. That's impressive.

Nice ride to work & home . Hardly any car on the road .
