Amazing weather this morning here in SF. sunny and 58°. i was expecting to see everyone on a bike. of course i didn't . something about the feel of the roads after a good rain. nice and clean.

can't wait for my ride home. going to take the long way.

You know you're in Key West when on your way home, you pass a 280-300Lb guy mashing pedals on his single speed, complete with basket, hauling a$$, wearing nothing but sneakers and tighty whities.

This was my commute home today.

Scary, scary place this is some times.

Rode with a guy for a few blocks this morning. Closer to work, I followed tracks of somebody who works in the building beside me and nearly bailed into an RV as I followed his treacherous path over a concrete parking lot divider and thru the branches of a tree. He's obviously much more adventurous than I. I'm going to stick to my route tomorrow.
Today at work I watched somebody knock my bike over in my cube and busted the clip off my rear light. It's like it was in slow motion. Trying to get that fixed today.

Yay!! I got back on my bike today after being off for almost a week, and one serious sinus infection!! I only road to a local park and ride which is about a mile and a half from my house, but at least I was back in action. Tomorrow will be my first commute all the way in since getting sick. I think I will give myself a little extra time. I never realized how addicted this could become until I had to give it up for a bit!

What a great way to get to work. I'm jealous, The only thing I get to chase on my commute is the clock!

I started commuting on July 19th. Since then I have logged 700 miles, justified $200 of bike stuff purchases and have 124 more commutes to justify the bike I purchased (My wife is picking up fenders for me tonight, I guess that number is 126 now!) Unfortunately I won’t have time to put those fenders on before my commute tomorrow. It’s supposed to be thunder storming on my ride home… But since when can you count on the weatherman!?

It was windy and damp on the way home this evening, I used my light as it was very overcast and drizzly. The good news is; my battery still had enough power to make it home. That’s good to know with the clock change impending. (I wish they would get away from that... I would probably vote for someone willing to quit this daylight savings time $#!^!!!)

I hammered on the way in this morning as I started late and was pushing a head wind. That wind shifted to be mostly a cross wind on the way home, and I just didn’t have the legs.

I had to stop and shed a layer today. I hate loosing my momentum like that.

Even closer to freezing today! I'm too close to Lake Champlain so it moderates the lows. However, there was ice on the one trail bridge. I didn't trust it so I wound up walking over. Any brake input with my weight off the bike caused a wheel lock.

General question for Burlington-area readers: Did I pass you on the Island Line Trail? You passed me when I was stopped and fiddling with my hat/earbuds. I had a blaze-orange hat and reflective vest on, and you had very large panniers and a blue reflective vest. I said, "Passing left", and "Morning", and you responded with, "Morning!"

Always wonder if there are any other Bike Forums people on that trail.

52 °F, misty, quiet. should take pictures some morning, after return to standard time. the morning ride is really a highlight of the day for me.

A pretty awesome ride this am.....slight head wind with rain/snow. Almost dressed too warm though. I will be nice to see the sun one of these days eventhough it means colder temps likely. Today is zero celcius. I think it has been snowing/raining on and off for about a week. Even with the Nokians and lower tire pressure I felt like I was flying.

I am guilt ridden… I found several excuses not to ride this morning; each more lame that the last. My goal this weekend is to get my Nokians and fenders on… That will eliminate a couple excuses.

Finally a morning without a nasty layer of ice on the roads! 34F/1C with a nice Chinook wind blowing 14MPH/22.5KPH from the SSW. Amazing how warm it felt riding in temperatures above freezing again!


EDIT: Broke 2400 miles for the year on my way into the office this morning!

Finally had tires at full psi this morning. Left the Nokians on to deal with areas that still had ice. Wore my fleece and a zipped-t mid-layer and it worked great. The fleece has pit zips so I was able to control the heat really well. Temp this morning was -3 with a wind chill of -8.

Read a couple of posts yesterday on taking control of your lane and did that this morning and it worked great. Vehicles left me more space and had one car honk at me (this is good because it means they see you). Will ceratinly continue to do this.

Congrats on breaking 2400 miles!

Nice ride in today. Temp was about -6c. Roads were pretty clear. I'm finding it takes me aout an extra 15min to get to work now as I take it a bit easier. But it also takes longer to drive due to conditions so my commute by bike is still as fast as by car (an much more enjoyable).

You guys are studs on studded tires. Here in the Golden State, the biggest hazard is all the crap that's accumulated in the bike lane after the rain and wind on Tuesday.

I had another episode with a driver who was just too polite or clueless: I needed to get into the left turn lane and this driver was where I needed to be, so I waved for her to keep going. Instead, she kept slowing down and waving for me to go. So rather than hold up all the traffic I went ahead of her and settled into the left turn lane.

Then she whips around me on the right and scoots into the left turn lane right in front of me. Okaaaaaay..... Whatever, Lady. That's the same spot you would have had if you'd just moved up like I motioned you to do. Sheeesh.

caloso, i also run into clueless drivers once or twice a week in my residential area. i come up and stop at a stop sign, the crossing road has the right of way because there is no stop sign. a driver (travelling perpendicular to my road, on the road WITHOUT a stop sign) stops, then waves at me to go. then i stare and say, "I have the stop sign", then i let a few seconds pass, then I go (usually by this time they flinch on their brake pedal, wondering whether it's just a ploy to run me over).

but this morning's commute was pretty uneventful. -3c, side-roads were slick so i just stuck well to the shoulder where i had some traction.

Yeah, I hate it when drivers give you the right of way when in fact they have the right of way. The problem is the person behind the car driver doesn't know there is a bicycle crossing the intersection and they will try to pass the driver and then you get squashed!

awsome commute this morning... I figured out that I was overdressing for my legs. A pair of long johns with my sports pants on top was just fine for 0C. Now I need boots and real gloves. My feet and hands are getting cold.

I too, am not a fan of this DST crapola. Daylight savings time is like trying to make yourself taller by cutting off your head and standing on it.

It was lovely commute this morning. We had mist or some such thing but it's warm enough to be very comfortable with just a light layer of polypropolene. My primary ride is boxed up for a flight tonight, so today was my first commute on my recently converted Peugeot fixie. Approximately 42 minutes which is a very average time for me with 18 gears to choose from. I kinda miss the 30+ mph thrill one can get with the extra gears, but I guess 26 mph stuck in 48x18 is thrilling too.

Madhouse, I like to think of a 60% chance of thunderstorms as a 40% chance of a beautiful day.

Yesterday was a nice day for commuting with dry roads & sunshine but I didn't ride because it was our annual chili cookoff & no way to transport a large crockpot on my bike but we sold a lot of chili & raised some money for cancer research. Today, at 6AM, it was 53F with steady rain & a 20 mph wind from the SW that made for a wet commute. It wasn't much better by lunch time, 50F with steady rain but no wind. A good rain suit made things tolerable & traffic was light. Don

Tonight's ride was wonderful. Like, seriously, seriously good. It was so good, in fact, that when I got home...I turned around, went back, and did it again. 18 miles, longest I've ever ridden in one, er, sitting.

Also, the first time I've ridden in real, actual dark. Not that the trail wasn't well-lit, but there were patches that were actually pitch black. Discovery: My front light is junk. I'll have to get a new one if I want to make a habit out of this.

And I do! I feel so great! =) I have decided, I'm in training to do a century. I'm already almost a fifth of the way there...

Hit a car on my way to taking the bike to the LBS for a BB check/overhaul/replacement. Whoopee!

Had to yell at a driver today. At the last intersection crossed before my work turn-in this joker decides to go straight in the right turn lane so that he is uncomfortably close to my right pedal. He slowed and let me ahead after my pointing and bellowing.
Other that that uneventful ride to and from with perfect weather. Never having bought padded bike shorts my B-17 saddle has broken in so that it is not even thought about during the ride.

I was going to ride to work. The weather was nearly perfect; slightly overcast, cool (low to mid 60s), negligible wind. I got started, but as I finished my first mile, I realized that the acid reflux during my "night" had caused some trouble for my lungs. Plus my tummy wasn't feeling so great. So I wimped out and took the bus. Fortunately, here in Charlotte they have bike racks on the front of the buses.

I'm feeling better, so I may attempt to ride home. Otherwise, tomorrow afternoon I'll give it another go!

Took a break from the forums last week, so I'll sum up my week's commuting in this post. Beautiful downpour on Monday morning, first decent rain in six months, temperature a perfect 15 degrees C. Showery on Tuesday morning and slightly warmer (doh!). From Wednesday onwards it was total ownage out there as the blocked off streets in Surfers Paradise caused traffic "chaos" (i.e. everyone except me was gridlocked, while I calmly picked my way through the gaps effortlessly). Not a bad week's commuting, but those temperatures got way too high toward the end of the week.
