Hey funbun. It's "cool" here too.
The winds are supposed to pick up today ~15-20 mph. Great!!! Cool temps and a headwind going to work.

Mornin' Guys!
The commutes have been awesome lately although if I had a car available today it would have been tempting. The second car is getting cleaned up to sell. Anybody want a 2002 Saturn with 30,000km. The wife uses the minivan for hauling the kids around and I promised myself I would never take the mini-van just because I don't feel like riding. Once I got going it was all good. It may not have been the fastest time but when I am on the bike time is irrelevant. The bike has been working flawlessly lately. There was a slight headwind today but clear and minus three celcius.
Cheers.

Today is my 2nd day to commute after the time change and I must say it wasn't too bad. I've never really ridden at night before and to me it's a little intimidating on the higher traffic routes. Also I'm still learning the fine art of dressing for cooler temps. Yesterday morning was 45 and this morning was 49 degrees. I know some you are
because y'all ride when there is ice and snow on the ground… Not this southern boy! The ride home is much better in the low 70's. Everybody have a great weekend! Be safe.

headwind winds of 40 this morning. Was the hardest thing I've ever done on the bike. I was next to the st-lawrence river, and I had to go on the streets so some buildings would give me a bit of protection from the wind. Brutal!!! I still feel my leg muscles aching a hours ... Which is a first for me in a long time. Good workout!!!

I needed to bring some equipment into work for today. I seriously considered making a special trip last night to haul it in so I could ride finally get a ride in. But I need to use the equipment at home this weekend so it would have required another special trip on Saturday. I can more easily justify going out for a spin on Saturday instead.

It was a pleasant ride this morning with my bike just back from the shop with a bunch of brand new components (wheels and drivetrain). The wind was blowing right from the Southwest so it was in the face the whole way so my time wasn't quite what I thought it might be, but I'll give it another go on the way home. It was sunny and mid-30s, and this afternoon should be near 50. I can't hardly wait for winter.

50F/10C SSW winds 25MPH/40KPH gusting to 45MPH/72KPH. I road the Jamis Quest this morning. I love this bike, but the aero wheels make for some interesting handling in strong cross winds. I was planning a longish ride after I leave work early today, but not sure in this wind. I must be getting lazy!

We are back into the plus degrees today in calgary, although very windy. My computer hit the 500km mark this morning. That's a lot of commutes since I only do 6.7km round trip.

A really interesting ride home yesterday. For the first couple of miles I was behind a guy on an ancient cruiser. I bet his fenders and chain guard weigh more than my whole bike, but there he was, spinning up to 20mph on this beast. Good work!
Then, just after he pulls off, I nearly get run over by a Mitsubishi who tries to use the bike lane to pass on the right.
I survived and continued around the park and I'm almost home. The last mile of this route takes me on an overpass where I catch up to a guy who's laboring on a really nice MTB. I also notice that he's got a blinkie attached to his pack but it's not blinking. I have one that occasionally switches itself off and I thought he'd probably like to know. There's a break in traffic so I swing around next to him and say, "Hey, you probably didn't know, but your blinkie isn't working."
His reply, with mucho attitude: "You just worry about yourself, okay?"
WTF?!? Just trying to help, dude. No need to be snotty about it. What a tool.

Left late this morning..a full hour later than normal. I felt like a vampire -- there is a sun!!! And, boy, was it bright and right in my face the majority of the ride in. Time to spend the money to replace my broken sunglasses.

Caloso - so much for trying to help others? At least he could've said thanks.
This reminds me of a more amusing incident last week - I pointed out whilst passin another cyclist that their rear lamp was being obscured intermittently by his bag. The guy was greatful enough, but 100 yards down the road I run over a bump, my rear lamp flies out of its bracket and hits the deck. He reached it first, picked it up and and handed it back to me with a grin saying "I guess we are level now". Funny
The rest of the week has sucked, I broke the frame on one bike on Sunday, leaving me without a spare, came down with a cold, so felt unable to ride my favourite longer "scenic" commutes, had a puncture on Tuesday and broke a spoke on the good bike yesterday. It can only get better. Tommorrow I'm off to the bike shops to search for a shiny new road bike frame.
Have a good weekend folks.
Cheers,
Ed

Today was great. After 25 work-days of riding, I'm starting to feel a little stronger as a cyclist. Although I have learned to cut back on the unnecessary weight. I used to take for granted the kinds of things I would keep in my backpack, books, pens, extra stuff that just seems to collect. I use my pack for hiking and the occasional orienteering event, so I get some crossover crap.
Now I question everything that I'm lugging. Does that thumb-compass REALLY need to be in there? Do I need all these energy bars? I'm enjoying the iterative improvements with each commute. Between the lighter backpack(which i now hold phone/keys/etc) and the panniers, the commute is logistically getting simpler.
Yay!

This morning I brought the camera so I could contribute to the commute photo thread but forgot to pack the usb cable. D'oh! So, I'll upload the pix from home. In the meantime, I'm just going to pedal home quickly, safely, and incident free.
Have a good weekend everyone.

32F & dense, wet fog at 6AM today. Very quiet commute in to work in light traffic. It took all morning to burn away the fog, but we had a sunny day & it was 48 for the ride home.

Beautiful ride in to work at 11:30 this morning. Wore my windbreaker since the return trip was supposed to be quite nippy. However, I "had" to meet my girlfriend at the pub next door to my work this evening instead of riding home, we carpooled.
I'll catch a ride to my work tomorrow (got the day off) and take the long way home.

I commuted the whole trip to work - almost nine miles - and it was simply *beautiful*! It was about 60 degrees F (15.5 C) out, clear as a bell, and I saw a gorgeous sunset! The temp made the ride very easy, because I never overheated at all!
I pulled up to a light, and a couple of motorcycles pulled up next to me. One shouted, "wanna race?" I laughed and told him I didn't want to embarrass him!
Before I started the ride, I was tired from lack of sleep, no energy, and thinking I'd never make the whole trip. But after getting a start and warmed up, I changed my mind - and glad I did!

One way I go is only seven miles; but there's several large hills that just wear me out! This other path is longer at 8.2-8.5 miles, but the hills aren't as bad. Last night's commute was longer (8.8 miles) because I made a detour to go to a drugstore. No place outside to lock up to safely, so I walked the bike inside and down the aisles with me! Nobody even raised an eyebrow at me.

clear and calm and 28 °F. today was the first weekday since they reopened the road south of the office park where i work, and i expected traffic to be worse than it's been in recent months, but i guess not many drivers have figured it out yet. i especially don't like the 18-wheelers on that 2-lane, no-shoulder road. but it is great to be outside, all the same.

Had to drive in this morning so I could drop my girlfriend's car off for a timing belt change. I haven't driven to work for about a month, and I couldn't believe how much I can't stand it now. I don't know how the steel cagers do it every day, I felt my blood pressure rising steadily, and the traffic wasn't even that bad.
Good thing is, after I drop the car off at the shop this afternoon I'm cycling home. It doubles the length of my normal commute and it's a route I've never taken before. I can't wait!
