Hardly anybody on the streets of our fair town this morning. Looks like folks are already off for the holiday. Fine with me. Maybe I'll get some work done without the phone ringing all day.

Yep, that stuff is falling on St Louis right now! Noon. Yay!!!

I hope you get what we got! Really wet, dense snow. I think we ended up with about 6". A little tought to ride in if it's cold. The semi-frozen slush made it tricky. It's still a hoot.

52F & light winds & rain @ 6AM today. Shoulder felt pretty good so I rode in on my Centurion rain bike. Commute was uneventful but since we are 1/2 staffed today due to the holiday, it has been pretty crazy due to coverage issues, took my lunch an hour late & rode home in gentle rain which stopped by the 1/2 way mark. Everybody have a good Thanksgiving holiday. Don

First time I have been able to ride to work in a couple of weeks because of having to pick the kid up from the baby sitter or run errands, but it has gotten way cooler than the last timre I biked. Today was about 21F or so when I went to work. Once I started peddling I got warmed up, but I have to find something to help keep my feet warmer. And if anybody who is getting snow doesn't want it, feel free to ship it to Central Wisconsin, third straight year without having snow on the ground for deer hunting or Thanksgiving :(

Worked 12-9, not a bad day to go in late. We had severe thunderstorms moving through the area but they had mostly dissipated by the time I got on my bike around 11. The ride home was beautiful and dry, clouds underlit by the lights from the city. Weather in Atl is perfect (to me) low 60's today, though the prospect is for more chilly temps soon.

fastedddie 11-24-04 10:59 PM

First day of snow! It was a great ride home tonite. 33 degress, 32 mph N. wind W/42 mph gust and wet heavy snow. Roads were slushy but not slick. I had a blast.

spidercyclist 11-24-04 11:13 PM

Hard rain all day. I still rode to work and home. My rain gear didnt hold up, I was soaked by the time I got to work. I changed into my uniform so I was dry until i Went home. Then I got soaked again. It was still a good ride. Happy Thanksgiving!

SaskCyclist 11-25-04 08:33 AM

We had our thanksgiving day turkey about 6 weeks ago. It is a special day in our family though. My daughter turns 8. I remember that being an awesome age. Anyhow, good ride in this morning, -5C with a 15k breeze. Two things happened today; a joker thought he could pass me and cut me off before we had to stop at an intersection. So there he was sitting in the left hand lane at a stop sign because he was too arrogant to admit he was wrong. Although I suppose the alternative was to just push me into the curb. Wish I had a camera. Secondly, crazy lady at an intersection with four lanes that goes from one way into a two way decide to turn left from the right hand lane. Luckily she was courteous enough to signal before she cut off a half dozen vehicles. I did my best to make sure I was not anywhere near her intended path or the aftermath.

Only one day, till the weekend.

ajay677 11-25-04 09:02 AM

Freezing rain and sleet last night and the first below freezing temperatures of the season. This morning it was -1 C with patches of black ice. Overpasses/bridges all over town were backed up or closed due to motor vehicle collisions.

slone130 11-25-04 07:56 PM

I commute about 6 miles a day. Suburban roads with a few stop signs and almost no traffic...talk about heaven. Today it was snow adn a fairly good wind. Thank God for Gore-Tex.

funbun 11-25-04 10:49 PM

Thanksgiving. No riding.

SaskCyclist 11-26-04 09:12 AM

I was mooned this morning on the way in. It was quite spectacular. Full round and oh so bright. I never realized how much light a full moon can throw. I certainly didn't need a headlight for my own visibility. It was -13C with no wind to speak of. I always enjoy riding on Fridays. Half the people in Regina are on earned days off on Friday. Seriously cuts down on the traffic.

AndrewP 11-26-04 09:22 AM

The first cold morning this winter -13C. Fortunately there was a brisk following wind, but my fingers got cold and my water bottle froze. Beautiful sunrise. Hoping it will be warmer this afternoon when I have to face the wind. Only 1 more bike commuting day before they close the bike path on the bridge over the St Lawrence on 1 Dec.

CommuterKat 11-26-04 05:26 PM

Not quite sure how cold it was this morning, and again this evening, but the water bottle froze on both trips, along with my fingers, cheeks, and nose. The full moon was spectacular though!! Got to ride over some ice patches today for the first time, and had no problems with slippage, thankfully. Realized that I have to organize my cold weather gear the night before, though, as riding in with skinny glove liners sure isn't a whole lotta fun when I knew the whole way in that I have toasty warm lobster claws somewhere in my apartment... Grr...
Can't wait for spring!!!

Bikeless! We drove down to Salem, OR early Thursday Morning in light rain but it was quite nice when we arrived and stayed that way through today when we drove back home with only a few showers along the way. I had accepted the Wednesday forecast for 2 days of rain in Salem so didn't bother to bring along one of my bicycles. (note to self, always bring a bike!). We had a nice visit with my son & his family. Don

Same here, quite beautiful. Very chilly in Alpharetta this morning, below 30 when I left for work. Wore a long sleeve polyester stretchy shirt, with 2 t-shirts and a windbreaker over. Perfectly warm and comfy even with the shorts on. Very nice on the way back, a little warmer.

Alphie 11-27-04 10:30 PM

Chilly riding in for the 12-9 shift. Got to the bottom of a steep hill riding away from home and realized I forgot my headlight battery, left it plugged into the charger. Back up the hill to the house.

I decided, since I arrived near my workplace early, to stop by a bike shop nearby to check out tires. I cut through a supermarket parking lot to get to the shop and ran over some piece of metal. Pull into the parking lot of the shop and my front tire is hissing air. How convenient. So I bought a kevlar belted 700x23 front tire, new tube and they mounted it.

Ride home was uneventful, but pleasantly punctuated with a filet mignon entree. :D

Awesome commute today, gorgeous weather. Got to the light next to a pretty cyclist with a bright jersey and cycling shorts and the sort of road bike you usually only see in rather more upscale dreams; she looked like 53-11's sister. (A marked contrast to the red-haired Scot, a college student with enough backpack that his shocks compress at stoplights.) She let me block the headwinds for a minute or so (at 6' @ 176lb. on a mountain bike with a 40-lb backpack I'm the 4th largest land mammal and block more wind than the Pyrenees) then sped along by.

Almost worth having to be on campus! (PS: Apparently today was bicycle day -- the number of people two-wheeling around Austin today is up.)

Sunday . . . Ahh . . . the day of rest. Unless you're a teacher. Rode in to school today, and for once saw the light of day! With winter hours now, I go to work in the dark and ride home in the dark. God it was SO NICE to ride in daylight. Funny thing though, the drivers were rude today! I guess at 5:30 am people are still too tired to be rude. So there are pros and cons to everything. The weather was sunny but cold! Brrrrr. Great ride in though, now to go home . . . in the dark.

Map tester 11-29-04 07:51 AM

Cool and sunny, about 40°F. Good to be back in the saddle again. Happy trails!

vtjim 11-29-04 07:52 AM

I was a little concerned yesterday because it was raining, getting colder and colder, and we had a howling wind.

But overnight it cleared out and the wind died. Nice commute this morning. The red/orange sunrise was lighting up the Adirondacks across Lake Champlain. Looks like quite a bit of snow in the high peaks.

Low 30s(F) but it felt a lot colder for some reason. High humidity, perhaps. No ice on the trail.

SaskCyclist 11-29-04 08:38 AM

-4C and 25K headwind. I was dreading the commute (eventhough the wind was not that bad) until I got going. Once I was pedalling, all was good. Two other cyclists on the road this morning. Kind of unusual.

cicadashell 11-29-04 08:59 AM

after last wednesday's steady headwind and driving sleet, this morning's dull frost was quite welcome.

on my way in i was scanning the bike lane for hazards and thought i saw crank bolt dust cap, so i turned around to get a better look, and lo! specialites TA! what a find, thought i briefly, until i looked down at my left crank and saw the bolt, exposed, and thought oh...i wonder when that fell off. at least i found it, eh?

billh 11-29-04 09:54 AM

St Louis, rainy, cold, low 40's . . . but I finally broke out my winter gear and was quite dry and comfy. Some old Performance neoprene booties over my running shoes worked nicely, even though the zippers were broken in the back.
