I was actually excited to see the rain this a.m. - washed all that damned pollen away...
first time I could inhale fully through my nostrils without sneezing in days! |

Nice ride at 49 F / 9 C. I took my backup bike today, which I was initially unhappy about, but turned into an interesting change of pace. For all its limitations, it was my everyday commuting bike for three years, and it was pleasant to start a beautiful spring day with an old friend.

A goose charged me the other day. That sucker came right after me. I instinctively piped up with my best goose honk. Aggressive little thing. Probably could have done some damage.
Two comments on my squeaky breaks, "You should oil those brakes", one from someone waiting at a public bus stop, the other from a kid waiting for a school bus. My first inner thought was, "You idiot, bicycle brakes don't get oil, they get adjusted". Fortunately, I've learned to filter my first response. Then I explain that I like them loud because they act as a horn to stupid drivers. No, didn't say that last part, filtered. I do a lot of filtering on the bike. Idiots, every single one of them. |

My rack broke away from the front dropouts this morning and dragged behind me. I was smoking down a hill and it scared the pee out of me (kind of nice on a chilly morning -- kidding, just kidding). The rack is 11 years old. Time to invest in another $15 rack! |

I hope you do feel better, you sounded a little ragged this morning... It always makes me feel better to trash Cub fans. A lot of my friends got the trash talk yesterday. Thanks for being so good natured! |

I am really good friends with a guy from St. Louis, who is a Cards fan and we give eachother a hard time on a regular basis. (On topic) Didn't commute today. Woke up with a wicked stomach ache (feels like I got punched there....) But I did bring my bike in my car and hope to ride out to some properties later for work and get a ride in on the rec trail after work. :D So at least I will be on the bike today! |
Ride home last night was brutal with >20MPH headwinds the whole way. Had to stop and put on my rain jacket for a passing shower for the first time this year.
Ride in this morning was warmer with the temp just above freezing. I was running late and got stuck behind a school bus that seemed to stop every 1/4 mile. Snow in the forecast tonight. |
Last night's ride was a hoot. Bad headwind. I spotted a couple of neon-clad riders far ahead of me and decided to reel them in. I did my usual drastic slow-downs for stop signs and slowly got closer. At times I think they were pushing really hard because they weren't where I expected them to be when I caught sight of them again.
Eventually I got close enough to get a good look. (About 100 yards) Two roadies in race-type gear on FastBikes. By that time we were in a residential area and they took a different street. I was pretty happy to have reeled them in that far. Took me over 2 miles on my 87 touring bike. :) Sometimes I wish I could commute with a group because I think people tend to feed off each other, so to speak. Even with the headwind I had one of my best commute times ever. This morning's commute was low 30s F and race-free! |
freakin' windy this morning! My panniers were more like sails and the gusty head/cross wind had me straining to maintain 15mph. Hopefully it will stay N->S and give me a nice tailwind on the way home.
|
Good ride home this morning, nothing special or unusual.
Household disasters and assorted service personel to deal with them left no time for ride today :( Too bad, as weather is perfect (74, light wind) - oh well. Hope you all enjoy your rides! |
35F this am with a good head wind. Cool & breezy this pm about 50F. More tommorrow.

Mixed bag today.
Nice ride in this morning and I encountered two other bicycle commuters. That's two more than I usually see. So that was kind of cool. Got a flat about a mile into my ride home and had to stop and fix it. That's a PITA on a fixie, and it took quite a scrubbing to get my hands clean when I got home. I probably should have used the nitrile gloves I keep in my tool kit. They're in there for a *reason*. Is there no way to change a flat w/o handling the chain? A concerned motorist pulled over, as I was reinstalling the rear wheel, to see if everything was ok. That surprised me. Think I've been overdoing it lately. Between racing, all-out group training rides, and commuting my achilles is acting up again. Probably gonna stay off the bike the rest of the week until this weekend at Sea Otter. -Trevor |
Good ride to work and home .Have a good nite .
|
I woke up and hour late this morning, so had to take the short (7mile) route to work. Last evening I was in the cycling mood, so took a longer 14 mile route home through the country lanes. This made for a glorious 45 minute sweep through some springtime landscapes at their best.
Cheers, Ed |
Windy ride home last night. I had an after work meeting so when I left, traffic was pretty light.
Good ride in today, wind at my back and cooler temps. It was dry and will be for the next few days. |
Great ride into work today. A little cool, but the sun is shining the roads were clear, it was almost hard to stop at work. ;)
|
Low 30s again. Sunny. Nice ride. One suicidal squirrel made a run for it and got within 2 feet of my front wheel.
Finally got a tailwind this morning. I've had a bad (20-25MPH) headwind every afternoon this week and it's beginning to get old. Yesterday afternoon I dropped quite a few "recreational" riders. :p Nothing too obnoxious. They were just going pretty slow. |
Been seeing more and more cyclists out while I am on my commute. The cyclists seem to be bicycle racers out training.
I saw one guy in a full business suit riding a motorized bicycle. I wonder if he see clients like that or if he is going on job interviews. At least he isn't getting sweaty. I think that the high gas prices are starting to bring out some odd alternative transportation. Good ride in this morning and yesterday morning; tailwind both days. The ride home has been tough with the hills and carrying my morning clothing. I haven't had enough time to post lately. Have a Greate day. My bicycle blog |
My commute is pretty variable, but as I lack a cyclometer, it's hard to say just how far I go at what speed. I try to go absolutely everywhere on my bike - school, library, friends houses, coffee shops, and wherever else I need to go in a day. Going by averages, I'm probably on the bike nearly an hour every day.
While I lived in Italy, I rode with friends who had cyclometers. I averaged about 25km/h then - to the best of my knowledge, I'm as fast if not a bit faster now. So, call it 25ish km per day, average. What's that, 15ish miles? Tuesday's commute left me with a flat tyre (I later removed something that looked like a bristle from a wire brush). To my embarasment, I had left my spare inner tube at home, so I bussed it.... Yesterday, we had freak hailstorms, which sucked alot (25mm Michelins on ice = no good at all). Today's rides haven't happened yet (more on them later, I suppose.) |
Commute started out pretty much as usual, today - 74 degrees, light wind.
About half way to work, a most unusual occurrence in these parts - a motorist was considerate!! Saw him notice me in rear-view and intentionally creep forward a few feet to give me room to do my track stand (i'm not very good at it - requires a bit more room than it should). A truly exceptional experience around here. All in all a good ride. Hope you all enjoy yours. |
My Comcast ISP has been down lately, hopefully ok now. We are locked into a Spring weather pattern: 32F-36F in the early AM with broken clouds & beautiful sunrises, showers & sunbreaks through the morning then turning wetter with heavy showers or hail in the afternoon & 50F. Had some excitement yesterday: when I went out with my 2 dogs at 5:15 AM, a raccoon shot out from under our deck. He ran for the lake & just escaped up an alder tree. I followed their noise through the dark & dragged both dogs away, then walked them back home for a big cleanup. Got them fed & settled in the kennel with just enough time left to ride to work. Will probably be a while before we see our masked friend again!

Great spring weather the past 2 weeks. Tonight I set a new record in the wildlife sighting department, 14 deer grazing in a field like a herd of cattle. Later I saw a more typical group of 5. The turkeys are also more active after the long winter. The roads are in tough shape with a new pot hole daily, but the longer days and lighter bikes make for some great commuting.

35F this am, no wind. Nice this pm put on an extra 7 miles.
Interesting turn of events at work lately, awhile back a co-worker said that I was an "Idiot" for riding in the cold. Guess who got a new scooter 'cause of the gas prices? Now we have a chat each morning as we get changed into work clothes. Nice guy. |
Another great ride today. Hardly any traffic and a place to park my bike too. I do not know if I'll ride my bike tomorrow. That would make 6 days in a row. Have a good night.

I had a great ride today, both ways. Sunny on the way in, Tailwind on the way home, and I found a great way to navigate the exit from the expresway onto the MUP. The first time I tried this route (earlier this week) I had to stop at the curb and lift my bike up. My new way is clean, vehicular, and LEGAL! :) Tomorrow will be my first bike-all-5-days week. Big up to all here for the supportive community!! |
This morning's commute was chilly and lacking of energy. 30F degrees. Maybe the afternoon ride will be perkier. Great weather we're having though. Just wish the 25MPH afternoon headwinds would stop, already.
AHPOOK, good job on the 5-day commute. ;) Feels liberating, doesn't it? |
Great ride in this morning. Clear & sunny w/ 20mph tailwind. Cruising on 53x15 was pretty nice. The ride home should be a little challenging if the wind stays the same, but it's Friday so it's all good. :)
|
Nice ride in this morning. The temps were in the low 40's. The wind started calm, but the last few miles it picked up and was a strong head wind. There were 4 others out on bikes that I saw this morning. It has been a busy week, with some long hours in the office and too much home work. I'm looking forward to the nice mid-afternoon ride home today.
