Had a good ride to work and home but when I was about a mile from work I had some dude growl at me as I went by him. I guess the world takes all types, so I just kept going. Have a good night.

Nice ride this morning. Not hot. Could have been cooler though. Smelled a skunk.
Warning: Good-Natured Testosterone Commute Race Tale Follows! Yesterday afternoon's ride home was fun. I was reeling in a guy on an MTB but before I got to him, he darted off the paved trail and into the woods. Beyond that point there's a stop sign. I was slowing down for that sign and Mister MTB comes zipping back out of the woods and proceeds to drop me like a hot rock, blowing through the stop sign and all. This will not stand. I accelerated from the sign and took up residence about 15 feet behind him, and stayed there. Him blowing stop signs. Me slowing/stopping for signs and then catching back up for sport. He never got up out of the saddle but he did bounce and push hard several times. He kept looking behind him. Still here, buddy! Keep trying! The last sign he blew through, he yelled, "CAR COMING!" As if I was blowing through the signs as well. I came to a complete stop. Stupid cager stops and waves me through. Sigh. More sport... I get on it and get behind Mister MTB yet again. At this point I can tell he's losing power. He was gradually slowing. 1MPH here. 1MPH there. For a while he had his hands off his bars and was pushing on his thighs. :D Finally, he moved far to the right and slowed to about 15MPH, at which point I said, "On your left", and sprinted. Never saw him again. |
I had a nice ride in. It is funny how commuting on bike one is much more aware of roadkill. I have a opossum on my route that is truly funky! I peddle uphill and hold my breath. :)

I left home at 7:52 AM am got to work at 8:08 AM. I rode very slowly for the most part, and also today was cooler than it has been. The result was dryness. Maybe a bit of microwetness of the forhead but otherwise dry. I turned on the computer and learned that the temp for the commute was 60 with 96% humidity, both lower than normal.
I feel really good as I commuted by bike five times this week out of five work days, for a solid 100%, my best ever. |
Nice ride in today, pretty warm out with some wind to cool me down. Gotta get a headband to delay the drips that invariably cover my sunglasses and create a blurred windshield effect. Had a friendly motorist give me a honk when they were about 50 yards back: that's OK. It's when they are next to you and lay on the horn that's annoying! Missed the commute yesterday. :-(

Good ride to work and home. It is just a shame that work is such a drag. No help and it is hard to get time off. You know what they say that good help is hard to find. Have a good night.

Sunday commutes are the best. I usually have the roads to myself and also an extra 1/2 hr. to get to work. I took a detour today to travel through the city of Taunton and the old asylum. It addes an extra mile and I did a very leisurely pace.

Left work Friday afternoon only to find that my front tube's valve stem had let go and flatted on me. Took about 5-6 minutes to change it then hit the road for my ride home on a fairly soft front tire. I couldn't outrun the impending rain and was soon caught in an absolute deluge. I was in between shelter points and was thoroughly soaked so I just kept riding-at least it was cleaning the residue from my recent 4 day ride in the dirt. Then, my chain started to slip everytime I'd bear down and try to accelerate. My middle and top gears just wouldn't catch so I had to ride home gently (a good excuse for the crank/cassette/chain upgrad that I'd been thinking about). In addition, after a trying weekend (truck breaking down on my way to deliver it to charity), I awoke to find that my new HRM is not working-no display (have to return it to Nashbar after just a few weeks of use).
Other than that, this morning's ride was nice; cool with moderate humidity. I took my backup commuter (roadie) and cruised in trying to guesstimate my heart rate for a cardio workout. This afternoon should be tough with heat indices nearing 100, but, as another commuter mentioned this morning "at least the wind is always in your face" when you're riding. |
What's left of "Cindy" is parked over New England and it's muggy. As usual, it's okay as long as I'm moving. Once stopped, I get mighty uncomfortable.
At 7:45AM: Temperature: 77F Humidity: 82% Dew Point: 71F |
As usual a nice easy commute, temp 76 and sunny with no wind. Some drivers decided to give me a closer inspection, but otherwise, ride was normal.

Had a great ride to work this morning. Got my first road bike over the weekend, a Felt F80. So far its been great, made it to work in only 27 minutes, shaving about 5 mins off from my previous record with my mtb :) I am leaving work around noon so its gonna be a hot ride home. As of 1030, its already 85, feels like 92 with 74% humidity
|
the heat wave finally broke in MN. The temp was around 75 (instead of 95)
but windy--ugh. |
The air was warm and moist like a tepid bath that made it impossible for my sweat to evaporate so it became trapped in the fibers of my jersey until it reached its saturation point and hung loosely around my torso resembling that poorly sewn shirt that Denise made for Theo.

Weather was good this morning temps around 60 humidity around 100%. The 3 km ride was the same as always with one exception. When I arrived at the one stop light rather than pulling up to it and stopping I rode around in circles waiting it to turn green (no other traffic on this part of the road), on green I continued on to work.

91 degrees in cleveland...I just make sure I breathe through my nose to avoid drying out.
I knew I was off to a great start when I flicked of a left-turning car while waiting close on an intersection. Most comical moment was my last gasp through a local park where a half-dozen teenagers and a grandmother were looking at some dead bug in the path in front of me. I try to gingerly ride around them, when grandmas toy poodle attacks my tires. "AAAARRRGGGHHHH" I shriek in some half anger half fear. Kinda like Kelsey Grammer when he fell though the stage floor. I thought everyone would turn heads as dog bounces off my leg...but it was 91 degrees. No one around seemed to care. |
My legs felt like logs and I was riding into a headwind, but there kept being riders in front of me so I kept pushing to "chase down the breaks."
Nearly got taken out by a guy in a pickup. I was trackstanding at a stop light and he rolls up on my right, just as the light turns green for me and red for him. He keeps rolling through but he keeps looking at me. I keep looking at him and I go. He sees I've got the light and I'm going, so he actually pulls over like he's doing me some favor but instead he pulls around and stops right in the bike lane. I ride by and give him the "WTF?" gesture. |
I had two flats in two days. The one I had filling up the tire, the valve stem fell off, so I changed the tube and tonight I got glass in the tire on the way home from work. I was almost home and I kept hearing a hissing so I stopped and felt the glass in the tire. I rode it home and changed the tube. Besides that, it was a good ride. Hope I don't get any more flats for awhile. Have a good night.

Nearly no traffic this morning it was a nice change.

I made it to work today without any bozos side swiping me.
LBS told me to bring the bike in when they open and they'd true my front wheel. They're good to me. It's still nasty-hot & humid. Worse than yesterday. Edit: I also saw a cute black and white cat. Another roadie had just passed it heading north, going all the way across the trail and slowing down in case it bolted. I was heading south, so we passed each other and then I slowed down and made squeaky sounds for the cat. It stood there and watched me. |
Had a nice ride today, well as good as it can be when its almost 80 and humid out there. My mirror fell off going through an intersection, so its time to buy a new one.

yay, back on the bike after taking monday off (i rode 212 miles on my track bike, details here if you're interested). 71 °F, dew point 67 °F, which is down from yesterday afternoon of 75 °F, which is really outrageous.
starting tomorrow we will be having the annual street art fairs in our fair city, which are always a sore point for those persons whose well-being revolves around the time it takes them to drive to work. it seems, however, that this year some folks don't even want to wait until tomorrow - they are rude and pushy and willing to take great risks to arrive at the office 20 seconds earlier. as if anyone would even notice! well good morning, perkins! peckins, it is? well, how long have you been with us, peckins? twelve years, you say? well, perkins, good to have you aboard! |
This morning was 91 F with 40% humidity. I really like being able to sweat a bit and the coolness of the air, no dry lungs, compared to the hot dry evening commute. Its the perfect weather to push hard in. I've been using the evening commute to warm up the muscles and enjoy the ride.
Its gonna get exciting the next few days with highs around 113 and lots of thunderstorms (which means lots of wind and dust)! http://wwwa.accuweather.com/forecast-past24.asp?partner=accuweather&myadc=0&traveler=1&zipcode=85282&metric=0 Al |
Temp this morning was 67f and humidity 81%. When I left the house it was strange, the sky was pure blue and it was sooo warm. Even with the lower humidity it was a warm ride that took considerable time to cool down from.
The ride itself was fine. I missed the stop light and was set back a bit more than a minute but I made it to work just a little bit late. |
We're getting a break from the sizzling skillet heat and the remnants of the Delta breeze were still blowing this morning. The announcer on KXJZ actually said, "We're getting some relief from the heat today. Our expected afternoon high is 100 degrees."
Funny how that actually feels cool after a week of 105F + (what is that, 40C or so?) |
