60s and sunny in Denver (perfect summer morning as it's been the past few weeks)
I saw a house being demolished today on way in. Two bulldozers and water sprayers to keep the dust down. The doors/windows were boarded up for past few months, wasn't sure what was going on with it. Funny thing is -- it's a great big house in big neighborhood with many nice size other homes. This house was very large range maybe built in 60-70s, so it's just being bulldozed so someone can built a larger more modern house (which probably won't match the architecture of the other homes). I don't think i'd sell my home if someone would tear it down |
It figures, we have cool weather over the weekend, but the heat returns with the work week. Still had a pretty good ride in.

Today was my first commute on my new Rivendell Atlantis. And let me tell you, it was one sweet commute. Its still the same distance, but I did not want to get to work. I left a bit after 8:00AM and was at the office around 8:12AM. Temps were cool but the humidity was high.
I commute in my work cloths but with the new Rivendell Atlantis I am able to use my Hoss bag which did not fit on my MTB. So I packed my work shoes in that and rode in my tennis shoes. I can't wait to ride back home. |
Nice ride into work today. Sweaty and drippy, but 10 miles always gets me lathered up. Especially when it's 70 degrees for the overnight low!

I live in Cleveland and in the mornings I prefer to take public transit (RTA). I pedal up to a rapid transit train and pedal a mile or two to work. I don't want to be a sweat bag to start the day. Then I blow mostly downhill for 15 miles to get home.
After the London Bombings, "heightened alert" means that RTA employees actually show up on time. It's a hassle. I'm used to them leaving the turnstyles open to zip through and pay on the train. Now they're barking at me because I blew past their specially designed slackhole..named "information". So you miss the train. Transfering in Cleveland's tower city station, the same drill happens....Two more transit cops than usual BS-ing and eating breakfast while another ticket taker with her girlfriend on the phone calls me out to stick my pass... a week or two from now...everything will be back to normal... |
Today was a glorious ride! I found a shortcut that cut about half a mile but, more importantly, EIGHT MINUTES off of my commute each way because it cut out a big hill in each direction. That seemed to leave me more rested for the other hills.
I don't think it will be long before I'll be able to increase my commute until I'm able to do the entire route from home! :) |
Had a good ride to work and home . I hope the weather keeps on going like it has been . Have a good nite .

Oh, and as far as my commute? 15-20mph gusting headwinds and spraying rain. 80 degrees outside, too. Really weird weather thanks to that stupid storm (what's left of the hurricane) that's blowing through TN. I didn't get TOO wet because it was so warm and the rain was like a fine spray. The headwinds were more of a pain than anything else. |
Nice humid ride in this morning. Rained overnight and heavy rains predicted for today.

Another steamy ride in today, less warm than yesterday. Still got a good sweat going. Had on motorist honk at me for moving about 3 inches off the gutter...They wouldn't want to hit roadkill a second time, why do I have to? :-)

Surprisingly cool and comfortable this morning. About 64F. Supposed to get uncomfortable again later today.
I took up position behind a couple of guys on hybrids with luggage. Stayed behind them for about 4 miles and I'm not sure they ever realized I was there. :) It was a leisurely pace. Nice in the cool air. Hey Skijoring, do you ride in from the south or east by any chance? Always seems to get about 10 degrees hotter when I get to the Coast Guard Station. |
Another warm and humid ride to work. Sweating pretty good by the time I arrived at work. Going to be mid 90's for the ride home this afternoon, possibly some spotty showers. Surprisingly there wasn't much traffic out this morning which was nice.

light rain for a few minutes today. otherwise a little warm for this hour of the day: 73 °F, dew point 60 °F. had a tailwind yesterday on the way home, which is a groovy thing, baby. i am getting used to my new gearing, liking it on the flats, although i miss that quick-start feeling i got before.

Very Warm even at 5 am.... Not too bad a ride for 2 hours sleep!~

:) VTJIM, I ride in from S. Burlington( intersection w/route 7 and 189) out to Essex/Essex Juntion via Lime Kiln and route 15. I loop back in via route 2, then roll out S. Brownell until about Van Sicklen. Then home. It's about a 20 mile round-tripper. Going to be a hot afternoon!
Edit: I used to ride through Winooski via that nasty bridge then out Route 7 to Colchester. Route 15 is almost as bad, but I only do that in the morning. The only bike path section I get to roll on is that part that parallels Spear Street. |
This morning was a nice ride in. Low 70's and wet streets from days of storms that helped make it feel cooler. Driver's were all nice.
|
Rode in this morning on my roadie (89' Centurion) since my daily commuter is still in need of it's street re-conversion (slicks, fenders, lights, etc). I converted it to 700x42 knobbies, removed the fenders, etc for a four day trip along the C&O Canal. I need to do this soon (along with some regular cleaning and maintenence) as we're expecting rain for the rest of the week. The roadie is fast and fun and the ride in this morning was cool with pockets of fog along the water. The ride home this afternoon will likely suck as the heat index will be over 100. Doesn't much matter though, in keeping with my new training philosophy, I'll spin home trying to keep in a good cardio range as opposed to hammering all the way. So I shouldn't be too hot when I get off of the bike.
|
Had a nice easy spin into the office this morning. I chatted with a guy at a light who was in his full club kit and looking like he was heading out for a training ride on his Madone 5.9. Beautiful machine, except for that funny looking fin.
OMG is it going to hot on the way home. 104F predicted. I should be soaked by the time I roll into the driveway. |
I switched out tires on the Atlantis just to see how it rides with 2.1 knobbies as oppsed to the 1.5 simi slick. Although I did this last night I still left home around 8:00 AM. Temps were perfect low 60's, but humidty was up to 100% so my goal is just to ride slow. I reached my goald and slowly made my way to work, total commute time came in around 13 minutes.
The thing about the humidity is that it just sucks the sweat out of the body, it doesn't matter how easy things are taken. As I don't have a shower at the office I think I may carry a small container of baby powder. |
Woot commuted again today
Fair 91°F UV Index: 4 Moderate Wind: From NNE at 6 mph Humidity: 12% As you can see good weather for the trip in but the forcast for the trip is for 112 F 11.5 miles, almost all of it on a pretty good Multi-use path. Everyone I encountered on the path behaved as expected and got alot of good mornings. I averaged 13.9 mph, the Crankbro Candy pedals made a real difference in pedaling. The only bad thing that happened was my bike feel over as I was getting my lock out of the pannier and fell against a stucco wall. Tore up the bar tape pretty good on that side and added some scratches to the paint on the bike. I will likely replace the bar tape this weekend. |
Nice ride in again, even nicer once I found out that my commute will have a few more miles added onto it next month!
|
Excellent ride to work. Hardly any traffic, but I saw a lot of people out walking on the ride home tonight. Must of rained before I got out, parts of the railbed where I ride were very muddy. Have a good night!
|
mellow trip...74 °F (already), dew point allegedly 65 °F although it feels even steamier after last night's rain, courtesy the final remnants of dennis. the moisture made for eye-catching shafts of sunlight between the trees. it will be pretty muggy on the way home, i imagine.
