This attitude makes no sense. It's absolutely typical, but still makes no sense. Yeah, boss, sure. I'm the person that's delaying you. All those cars in front of you? They're not delaying you. Me and my 42cm-wide bike, we're impeding you.

pleasant 30 °F morning, a little sunny even. now it's grey, but still dry, which is great. winter retains her grip but i am beginning to find some wiggle room.

TrevorInSoCal 03-17-05 03:11 PM

Good ride this morning. Pleasant temps but it's still arm-warmer+base-layer+leg-warmer weather. That's what passes for winter in SoCal. Earlier in the winter I actually had to wear a vest, headband, and long-fingered gloves for a couple weeks. Brrrr. ;) I actually prefer the cooler temps to what's just around the corner. 5 months of heat and smog...

Got waved at by an attractive blonde in a Subaru Outback, that's always a plus. :) Grepping my memory to try and figure out if it might've been someone I know. Coulda been a friend's sister, but only if she got a new car recently...

Other than that, and the crossing guard/security-guy next to the indian casino who said "Highly motivated!" as I rode by, ("Uhhh, ok. Thanks dude."), it was a pretty uneventful commute. Looking like I might get rained on, on the way home. That will suck, but I have a rain-slicker stashed in my desk-drawer...

Edit: It didn't rain.

Must be something in the air, but yesterday Mrs. Caloso gave me two bike related compliments:

1) She said she appreciated that I rode my bike into work and that I was doing a public service by keeping a car off the road. She was noticing how congested downtown had gotten and how it's hardly worth driving even if you have a parking lot right next to work.

2) She asked me why I was reading a bike repair manual. I said that I thought my rear hub might be going out and I was going to see if it was something I could attempt to fix myself. She said, I admire that you're always trying to learn something new.

Wow. I tell you, I appreciate being appreciated. I've been walking around smiling all day.

good ride home, rode fast and far. good weather, motorists behaved.

EDIT: I just remembered, I pulled up to a stoplight and saw the passenger in a silver dodge magnum rolling a blunt. I don't do drugs, but I know what a blunt is. haha

Watching what people do in their cars is very entertaining :D
Today's commute was excellent both ways...a black cloud followed...just as I got to my car, it started pouring...good timing.

Great ride home last night! Wish most of my commutes was like that. Tempature was a nice 54F, no wind and clear skies. Traffic was not to bad and I made most of the lights. I think I had to stop for only two redlights.

Ride in this morning was pretty good. Cool with a tempature around 28F. I took my time coming in again this morning and relaxed. Made for a good ride. High today is supposed to get to 58.

First ride since Feb. 8 due to a rotten stinkin' cold that wouldn't go away. Felt great to be back on the bike, -4 C and no wind. Nice to hear the Nokians singing on the pavement, and I actually looked for ice to ride on instead of going around it. Lots of icey spots due to warm melt yesterday +4 C and cold freeze last night (-5 C), but no problemo with the studs!

:D Wonderful ride in, sunny and cool (35°F). Hope everyone has a great weekend. (Can you say Endorphin release?) :D

Great ride today - the first morning that was warm enough to ride without a jacket.

A pity about the stupid driver that tried to undertake me at the lights in order to save about 0.002 seconds. Managed to make them abandon the manouvre and see sense about 1/2 way through the turn, using the traditional two fingered salute...

Have a nice weekend,

Cheers,

Ed

Spring is just around the curve. I can smell it. Took an extra spin through Patapsco park this AM. I hope to get out for a quick nooner ride. Don't know the temps but they were above freezing with lots of sun. Have a good weekend folks.

Great day to be back on the bike. Still haven't gotten new wheels for the commuter, so had to borrow a road bike for the day. What a difference! I don't know how much faster it made me, but it sure was fun. And a guy stopped to talk to me about it at a light. Maybe I've converted someone...

Fantastic commute today. From the get-go, I felt stronger and faster. Cut a whole 6 minutes off my commute--pretty good, considering I've been back on the bike for only a week.

A guy in my office wants to start riding to work and asked for some advice. I'm glad I can be a good influence every now and again.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I use my admittedly ancient and junky road bike for the ride to work and it's like flying.

Kudos! I hope you were successful. I less cager?

The weather here is great! 61F at last check and not a cloud in the sky. I still got another 1/2 hour until quittin time. Can't wait to get out and soak up some of that great weather on the way home!

cicadashell 03-18-05 04:48 PM

this morning was nice - a fresh layer of snow, but not too cold. yesterday on my way home i heard (but did not see) the first red-winged blackbird of the season - o-ka-leeeeeeee!

AF_Commuter 03-18-05 04:54 PM

Beautiful! 61F and light SW winds...17.5 miles. But spring must be coming 'cuase had 2 irate motorists. A young smoking kid screaming "You Suck!" and another car cut me off, then stopped in front of me waiting to make a turn all while making nice gestures. Guess they couldn't see the blinding neon jersey!

EarlT 03-18-05 05:06 PM

77 degrees, 10-15 kn following breeze, fixed gear, free Subway sandwich, caught and passed only car that honked.
The only way i can think that this ride cold have been better is if it hadn't ended at work. Looking forward to ride home.
Happy to read that everbody else appears to have had good rides today. Be safe - Ride - enjoy!!

Ed Holland 03-21-05 06:54 AM

Decent ride today. Good to be back on the bike as I missed any chance of riding at the weekend.

Cheers.

Great ride in this morning. New wheel set really makes a difference that I wasn't expecting. I had heard that low spoke count wheels could be a rough ride but now that I finally got to switch from my Xero XR-3 (16f, 20r) to my new Salsa Delgado X/105 (32f/r, 3Xf/r) and the difference is amazing. The ride feels much smoother and these wheels even with the 460g Delgado X rims are LIGHTER (enough that I can feel it whel I lift the bike). So the ride was fun. :D

Bike with new wheels.
