Ugh, it's the weirdest blend of humidity out there and the rain wouldn't evaporate off the pavement. Tonight the fenders go back on. *sigh*

I'm feeling Katrina's presence in NC also.
Yesterday a.m. was very foggy (unusual in August), and in the afternoon the clouds were amazing.
I could've shot a whole roll of film on the crazy cloud formations I saw.
This morning, temps were already pushing 80° around 8 a.m. and the 84% humidity was palpable.

Traffic strangely absent from the roads on my ride in... but no complaints from me!

Great ride today. Good weather. Best of all, I ran into (figuratively speaking) a neighbor who rides to work once in a while. We share the same route most of the way, so it was nice to ride with him and get to know him a little better.

A good ride today, a bit warmer than yesterday, mid 60's I'd imagine, but sunny. The ride was nice and slow, but I did nail the one light on the route. It feels so good to ride up to a green light.

Just started riding to work again. I used to all the time, but we've been have 105+ degree days, and I've been wimping out. Now its down to 99, and I can deal. Lovely in the morning, 60ish and my commute is through 5 miles of park, about 1/2 mile of street. Lucky me!

I had a bit different commute today, because I went to Santa Clara University for a training session instead of my normal bit. The change of pace was nice but sadly it was only 4.5 miles each way instead of my regular 10 so I feel a little short-changed. Hope we get a little spin off the wet weather down south to knock 10 degrees F off the daytime temps.

Respect & good thoughts out to all the people affected by the heavy weather.

On my 6-mile ride back, I had two people yell at me that I will remember for a while. I had others, of course, but these were the best:

Fratboy in civic with his buddies: "Get your fat*** off the road!"
Hot girls in car behind him: "Don't listen to him - way to ride bud!" - followed by that "woooo" noise only college girls can produce.

good times, drove to work, rode home, rode in this morning, drove home and noticed that the gas prices are now jacked up another ten cents or so and pretty much i think ive had it. im going to go for an all weekend commute - thursday to sat, and then my first full week next week. i think once i break the full week of commuting seal i'll be set.

Lots of rain on the ride home yesterday. I cheated and used the bike racks on the bus.

Rain and wind on the ride in this morning. Supposed to clear up and be a great couple of days coming up.

What's left of Katrina is making its way across northern New York and Vermont. My commute was nice and wet. The downside is that it's also pretty humid.

There wasn't another living soul on the trail this morning. I love riding in the rain.

Looks like heavier rain and a good tail wind for the ride home.

Had to drive yesterday to return my keys to my old apartment, but I will be riding the rest of the week. Had a nice ride in this morning, pretty muggy out though and had a mild head wind. Was nice to ride past all the high gas prices

I drove. *shock, horror*. Still only 208 miles driven since July 31.

Wind finally died down a bit today... earlier this week, the crosswinds were brutal...
The air was nice and calm this a.m... less humidity, but still quite warm.

Had a couple motorists embarrass themselves on my behalf this morning.
Why do they act like children when they encounter a cyclist?
Well, at least I get a laugh out of it.

Now that classes at Duke are finally in session, the pedestrian congestion on campus has
diminished considerably... last few days have been frustrating trying to weave my way to work.

I put the rack on my touring bike this a.m. because I have to pick up two
10lb cases of canned dog food later today. That should be a fun ride.

Same weather as * jack * -- and same predicament with the students. I don't know which campus you work on, but they're doing construction on a bridge on west campus that means I have to climb the stairs in front of the chapel part way through the ride. I'll be happy when that's over. Weaving through the temporary fence openings they've put up is enough of a hassle for this newbie.

Today was the first day that I remembered to reset the timer on my cyclo-computer to see how long my commute actually takes. I started off pretty slow, but did catch the lights nicely, so I'd imagine it's fairly accurate -- 22 minutes and 43 seconds from my driveway to the elevator of my building.

As I stepped in my office, awake and alert from the ride, I thought to myself <em>this</em> is why I commute. It just feels so @#$%^ great!

Great weather for riding. The humidity (from Katrina's outer rain bands) is gone and the temperature will be ~90F (32C) later today.

The ride wasn't as pleasant as usual. I have an aunt and a few cousins in New Orleans. I spoke with a cousin last night who said everyone made it out of town and they have been staying in a hotel in Houston, TX since the day before Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. Problem is - they have nothing to go back to. Thinking about them sure put a damper on the ride.

A very good morning. It was foggy, and cool, low 60's, absolutely perfect. The ride went fine as well as I hit the stop light. It turns out today is the first day of school at the grade school that I pass by. A complete SUV quagmire for a block, but other than a bit more concentration, no problems. Time to work, about 10 minutes.

Glad that you had no problems but personally I'd rather ride past a bar at 2:05 am than an elementary school at 7:45 am.

My own ride was very relaxed. I've been riding less and running more lately as I prepare for a December marathon. This morning I had a speed workout so I was pretty spent when I climbed on the bike. But a nice easy spin to move the legs and keep the blood flowing was just perfect.

Foggy down here too. BTW I was born in Oxnard... not too far from you.

We get fog occasionally over here, this morning it was unusually heavy so the mist soaked me. I took it easy on the decents and pushed it on the hills to make up so I got in a good time and averaged 18.4 mph, 1.2 mph faster than yesterday.

Put the lights back on the Bianchi this week. Don't need them yet, so no batteries. Just the lights.

Nice commute this morning. Cool and breezy with bright sun. Managed to stay out of the School bus quagmire on the rural road I ride into town. I don't like playing "leap frog" with them.

no work, but ran some errands. library to pick up notes from the underground, bank to deposit, school to fill out graduation application (yes!!) and then liquor store for some ciroc vodka and red wine. some nasty nasty winds today, a branch almost fell on me, and i was pounding up a hill when this headwind just came out of nowhere and almost pushed me backwards, sheesh.

but, when the sun broke through it was a beautiful day.

The ride home was weird. More cars than usual. Some intersections were backed up so I couldn't even turn safely.
When I passed a gas station about 1.5 miles from my house the cars were lined up in the street waiting to turn into the station. Reminded me of 1974. It almost felt like someone was going to run me down because I wasn't in line to buy gas.
I noticed that the price for regular at this station was $2.69 this morning and it was $2.89 this afternoon. What will tomorrow be like? Crazy drivers!

Excellent ride both ways. Fall is in the air and my HR is begining to stabilize. Speeds are slowly inching back up to previous levels...as long as that dang HRM doesn't go off for more than a few minutes!

I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt and cousins, though I'm glad they are safe. We have evacuees all the way here in Austin, another 150 miles from Houston. I wish the news was better but it sure sounds like these folks will be suffering for a long time.

Good ride to work and home . Still a little rain on the way to work today, but none on the way home. It was a little muddy on the ride today .But still a good ride .
