I'm dying !!!

I'm on a forced break from biking. And I'm dying !! I miss it already.

I'm recovering from a century over the weekend and my left knee's still hurting a bit. I'm a little biked-out, anyway, and promised myself after the century that I'll take this week off from bike-commuting. The problem is, my knee's getting better quickly.

AND I'M NOT SURE I CAN KEEP MY PROMISE !!!

The bonus Andy is if you break your promise on thursday, it will be quite an exciting two days worth of commuting.

Yeah. Above all, I'll miss an early "storm" (CA-style, meaning a little rain and a few puffs of wind) ... if I hold to my promise. After more than 6 months bike-commuting through sunny, predictable, gorgeous, dry weather, without the least bit of a threat of rain, I may miss a good soaker ... if I hold to my promise.

I'M DYING !!!

I have been riding to work every day for about a month [since I got my new track bike, my old bike was stolen]. The commute is only about a mile and a half, but I love every second of it!

Mine was a bit snowy after I left the polls, but the roads weren't to bad. The bridge decks were a little dicey. It should be a good ride home, the roads are dry and it's warmed up to a balmy 35 degrees F.

Stopped to vote and then headed the rest of the way to work. Warm enough that I took off my coat and enjoyed the breeze. It is now 45 F 7 C and raining, so both coat and rainpants will be in use on the trip back.

When I stepped out of work last night, it was one of those moments you wish you could photograph. The back yard at work is fully covered with yellow & red maple leaves, it was dark, and had just started to rain. My lights made all of the individual rain drops on the leaves shine like pearls. A good way to start a ride. This morning had the first black ice. The only place it was a problem was at one intersection I had to plant a foot, which promptly slide away. If I hadn't been on my bike, I would have fallen for sure.

I had a wonderful tail wind which carried me to the polls in record time. More rain on the horizon, so should be a wet ride to work tomorrow. Enjoy!

I think today may have been the last clear morning for quite a while. The rains are a'coming. So I took extra looks over the river and filled my eyes.

At least tonight I get to try out my new headlamp. Bring on the rains!!

Perfect ride. Well made up for yesterday. I was able to ride right by a police action that had the road stopped in all directions. And as a bonus, the wife had dinner just popping out of the oven as I came home. :beer:

Back to being stupidly hot again this morning. I'm beginning to wonder if I can break the Gold Coast drought with my sweat.

It sucked!, but only because I had to drive. The chiropractor has placed me on an involuntary hiatus from cycling until the sciatica is completely under control( about 80-90% so far:) ). He is very good at what he does, but I don't think he understands how much I like to ride. I figure I'll give it a little more time, and then I'm getting back on the bike. SCIATICA BE DAMNED!!

I used my safety net on the way home this morning. I learned a lot. It was raining, so I didn't get up until 9:00. I decided to take the bus home. There is a bus route just 1/2 mile from work and it takes me 3 miles from home. I also learned that route ends at 8 am. I had to take a similar route that gets me 4 miles from home.

Cool things about this:

The bus drive is a local bike club member. We chatted a lot.
The bus has front bike racks.
I was dry.
I can bike the route faster than I can bus it.

Wind and Rain again! Had to put on wet shoes and overshoes this morning as they hadn't dried from last night:( .

Some things are difficult to put into words, so I'll do my best here. Ah, but where to start! Today the Gold Coast told the bushfires to f**k off for a while. For the first time in ages, I had a clear view of the Hinterland as I came around Kirra Point, but should I look at that, or should I look at the South Pacific, which was a spectacular (and very tempting) shade of blue today.

Of course, the ocean also provided me with a perfect sea breeze to enjoy. Here I was torn - on the one hand I was inspired by the conditions, but at the same time strangely subdued as I really didn't want this to end.

Of course, I was then treated to a golden sunset as I passed through Palm Beach, and the scent of fresh eucalyptus at Burleigh National Park. Just when I thought none of this could get any better, I was then treated to the spectacular sight of a flame tree in full bloom.

In short, it was the best commute I've had in months. After cleaning up on the Melbourne cup yesterday, I am having a good week!

Modesty and the forum guidelines do not allow me the full range of my favourite expressions to describe the weather this morning. Suffice it to say that I might reasonable have expected to see a pod of dolphin swimming along in the wake from the front tyre :(

At least this has helped remove some of the filth that was building up on the bike.

Woke up the morning to hard rain, very cold temp and a lot of ice, I decided to drive the car for the 18.5 mile commute so I could survive to ride tomorrow. Have a great day all.

Ah yes, New England is getting a nice dumping of rain. I was already to head out the door when I found out I had to drive to a meeting instead of a fellow worker. Ah well no adventure for me this morning. Cars really are a boring form of transportation.

+2 C, misty and 20 kph headwind this morning, so I wore the Gore-Tex jacket instead of the windbreaker. Still a little too warm for the Gore-Tex, but better than too cold in the windbreaker. The cotton gloves over my bike gloves weren't quite warm enough for the fingers today, but I've been finding the neoprene gloves too warm unless it's below 0 C.

:( Still on forced downtime ... I miss bike-commuting :(

Driving to Redwood City for a dentist appointment. Then believe me, driving home, changing, then biking into work. So it will make me quite late, at least I'll be riding. :D

I'm not sure if it'd work in all circumstances, but I've found that making such stops can be easily accomplished if you ride from the location of the errand -- the dentists' office in your case. The trick is remembering that you left your car somewhere unusual.

I work in Los Gatos, live in Mountain View, and the Deintist is up in Redwood City (down the street from my old job). I would hate to have to retrieve my car from Redwood city after my ride home tonight.

Thats the one thing that sucks about having a good dentist, you aren't willing to play-the-field to try to find one closer.

Beautiful commute this morning. I started off at just before 9:00 since I worked till just after midnight last night I figured I deserved a late start this morning. The sun was shining bright, temps were climbing into the 70's and I finally found the place that had the pesky squeeking noise with some lubricant and stopped it! I also found a round of live ammunition in the road near where I saw some Police Cruisers parked in some bushes on the way home last night. It had been run over a few times and was pretty scraped up. It gave me the willies, I picked it up and threw it into a nearby canal. If the water doesn't ruin the gunpowder at least the water will hinder the bullet if it ever does go off I figure. Anyway, from there on in the ride was just beautiful. I can't beleive how much less traffic there is after 9:00. Life was so much easier commuting this morning without all the stinkpots!

This mornings commute was through a torrential downpour and I got absolutely soaked to the skin. The journey home was completly different , when I left work there were blue skies all around so I hopped on the bike happily, only to instantly know the was nothing in my legs and it was going to be hard work cycling home.

I cycled across the carpark through the gates turned towards home only to be faced with a huge headwind and that's the way it was all the way home. the only highspot was the discussion I had with a motorcyclist as we waited at the front of a queue by some traffic lights.

Petrol power or Human power it doesn't matter. we still face the same problems.
