drizzly rain but warm. I'll take it. My future commuting bike/train/bike is in jeopardy. They just announce the closing of MY train station. Marylands current mass transit system does not like the masses.

Great ride in this morning, mid 40's with little wind. Still had some post commute coughing from my URI, but felt better and stronger overall. Hopefully I'll be able to catch a rain-free window tonight for the ride home!

Was running a few mins. behind schedule on the way to work so I cranked it up to make up the time and maybe go for a personal best. Result? An exactly average commute w/ an average speed. I thought I was going faster, the computer even confirmed it. Must've been all the red lights I had to slow down for. Oh well.

It was about zero today when i left for a short 6 k commute to asagaya (Tokyo) where I was teaching today. Weather has been beautiful, none of the tremendous snow that has hit other parts of the country. Rode under bare zelcova trees that form an arcade down one of the main streets. So far have been on the bike everyday this week

50F and, hard to believe, but sunny in Cleveland Ohio this morning! The sky was quite a sight, compared to the low and ominous clouds I'm used to this time of year. Not as much wind, either. Wow--it was a lot of fun. Still, few people were out enjoying the metropark, which I ride through. What bums!

Woke up to a surprise snowfall and potential freezing rain later today. Time for the spikes! Traffic was backed up out the wazoo this morning, but due to my route and mode of transport, I was able to proceed completely unfettered by gridlock.
My new HID headlight was put to use as I walked across a ped crosswalk [caution signals flashing]. Traffic stopped [as the law requires], except for one car that just kept on rolling through the intersection. I unleashed the full fury of my HID directly into her window and she withered under its brilliance. WITHERED!!!! |
Oh, it was cold this morning, I bet in the 40's. But it was also bright and sunny for my ride. I got to the office in about 10 minutes.

I switched back to my many geared bike for a change yesterday (and because I rode a fast 99.4mi on my fixed bike Sunday and wanted to give my legs a bit of a break). Yesterday I hated it, not the bike, but the accessories - lights, mirrors all were not where I was used to having them. It made for a distracting ride, especially going home yesterday.
But I fined tuned the set up and this morning I am getting back to being used to the different layout. I wonder how long it will last. Al |
Last night's ride home was fine, though my RD is still causing me some grief after my Monday night spill. No commuting today since I need my car later today. Since my bike's going in for the one month tune-up on Monday anyway, I probably won't try to deal with the RD and will just have the bike shop look on Monday. I just can't use some lower gears until then.

Very nice ride in this morning. Temperature was 51 and I worked up a nice little sweat. It rained this afternoon but the sun is out for the commute home.
|
Yeah that rain is over us right now... looks I'll be getting wet after work.
|
Drizzly.
|
The roads were wet. So was my bike. Pedals were slippery too. And traffic really sucked. But I'm home now so who cares.

It cooled down a bit in the afternoon but stayed sunny for a very pleasant ride. It took about 10 minutes to get home.

very nice today! lit up (blinkies) going in (quiet) and no rain, 45degf, sane on return.
why do so few others....do this? |
Hooray I can post here again! No, not because I have a job again, but because I "commuted" to my university to meet with my advisor. That's surely close enough, no?
Anyhow... I've been riding my road bike almost exclusively as of late, so today was an opportunity to hop on the poor, neglected folder. Off I went... and realized after about 1km that I had forgotten to turn on the wireless bike computer. Another km or tow later I realized that I had forgotten to set it for the "other" wheel size (I now share one bike computer between the two bikes). In the end I think the two mistakes about evened out (folder has smaller wheels so it looked like I was going reeeeeally fast for while :D). Silly day today, it seems, as I forgot to toss the clip-on fenders into my backpack so I got a little wet on the way back, as it had rained while I was indoors. Edit: I had, though, remembered to charge my light set's battery so an evening return through the fog and rain-slicked roads was more wet than dangerous. :) |
yesterday in the course of the day's dementia i had a little social moment with the technical lead who i introduced myself to down by the bike racks a few months ago. 'hey!' he said. 'i don't see your bike down there anymore!' i explained about all the work and he didn't even feel snarked at. but it snapped me to the grid and made me sorry suddenly that i was missing out.
so yay and yee hah. back to biking to work this morning. VERY nice. grey, cool, lots of light and the clouds breaking up a bit over my destination just enough to catch it all and make the sky lovely to look at all the way in. it was raining the kind of rain that's so sparse you don't know it's happening until you get a look at a puddle and see the little rings on the surface. some wind all the way in, but not too bad. if i don't have to work too hard against them, i like headwinds when i remember to pretend to myself i'm swimming through air. then it's like going back to those third grade longings to be able to fly. i like that feeling of seeing air as a river flowing right over me. ride home was nice too. if i got rained on it was still so light i didn't notice. resting for a couple of days doesn't seem to set me back too far towards square one either. it was a good day. and now there's only four of them left, unless i break out in last-minute goodwill and go work on the weekend as well :D songs: green shirt, elvis costello; good as gold (stupid as mud), the beautiful south. |
I've been off the saddle visiting my inlaws for two weeks in california; however, I managed to commute to the hospital in one of the old man's motorcycles.
At least it was two wheels instead of 4. It has been an interesting experience, but I much rider commute in a bike and live closer to my destination than living in California and commuting a 100 miles rountrip every day. |
Warm & wet .
|
Very wet & windy!
|
Ride was clean and easy this AM. I even made it to work 1 minute quicker than usual........ lol
19 minutes for 5.25 miles. Give or take 60 seconds @ this one intersection that always slows me down... Average Speed = 60 / 18 * 5.25 = 17.5 mph. woot ! |
The ride in this morning was uneventful except for one car that decided to pull out in-front of me. Yesterday was rather funny though. I was riding on a 3 lane road in a busy area near my work that I cannot avoid. A red mercedes convertable passed me with the top and windows down, and then begins to slow down at a green light so I pass him. Then he begins pacing me and just staying there right next to me so I glance over and the guy has his pants at his knees playing with his junk. Obviously he wanted me to see this so I did'nt give him the pleasure of a reaction and just kept on pushing to the next stoplight. He went to the far left turn lane and put his windows up and I was going straight, so when I got to the light I just did my normal thing and did'nt look toward him.
This is definatley the weirdest thing that has happened to me since I started commuting. I kept laughing about it all day. |
Clear, dry, upper 30's this morning, supposed to be sunny and up in the 50's today. WOO HOO! Left the winter bike in the garage and took the Fuji this morning. It was nice to 'fly' again, rather than just plodding along. My commute takes about an hour and fifteen minutes on the 'tank', about 55 minutes on the Fuji. Nothing like getting back on a thoroughbred again after a few weeks on a clydesdale. ;)
