Fair ride today, I over dressed by about 7 degrees. Bright sun, little traffic. I got a bit nervous as some cup cake in a Mazda MX6 pulled along my left side and threatened to take a right turn across my front wheel. I quickly glanced over my left shoulder to look him back to first base. |

Rain showers threatening today, but it was 51F when I left so I put the jacket in the bag and rode wearing an HHCMF t-shirt. Last night's jaunt around CP meant this morning's commuting legs were still in bed. Made it to work in the usual time anyways and only had to dodge a couple right hookers. |
Great ride in today, I decided that riding my 20 mile route was making me slow. I noticed that my average speeds kept going down...so I'm going to REALLY push the 10 mile route all next week, and then move back to the 20 mile route. Hopefully this will allow some of the windiest weather to die down too.
Cool temps this morning, but getting warmer, I think I'm finally able to hang up the fleece for good, even went without my neck/face warmer today, and my warmest gloves stayed in my bag. Looking forward to trips in just a jersey and shorts both ways soon! Drivers were pretty sane this morning, no one deliberatly tried to kill me, so that's always good. |
Ha! Back on the bike today! I just slammed some pepto for breakfast and hit the road. My wife showed up with some Mexican food last night, and I was all over it. After I was done eating, she tells me, "I'm impressed that stuff kept as well as it did all the way from Salt Lake City". Hence the pepto.
The ride in was cool and quick, although two cars snuck by me in my own lane in the span of two blocks. Grrrr. Apparently, being in the middle of the lane just isn't good enough. |
Rainy and snowy.
20 miles into the commute I was drenched with a combo of snow and rain. My gear is now drying next to a space heater in a vacant cube. Anyhow, I have this detour through a lovely industrial area. One street has two sets of train tracks crossing it at a 45 degree angle. I cross the tracks at 2mph or less, perpendicular to the track. So, I hit the wet track going even slower and my bike wiped about 45 degrees to my left. Somehow while clipped in I pulled up on the tilted side and righted my bike. Egads! That was scary. |
Another nice and clear morning, a bit cooler than yesterday. It took about 10 minutes to get to the office.
For the week I was an unimpressive 3 of 5 for bike commutes. April showers set me back more this week than any other this year. For the year I am now -5 for bicycle commutes, in that I have failed to commute by bike on 5 occasions. |
I had a nice commute, I took the long way. It kind of sucks that I'm back to using lights in the morning since we changed our clocks. It's a little windy and cool, it was 41F/5C at six this morning, it's eleven AM and it's 37F/3C... hmmm, at least the sun is shining. I'm ready for some warmer weather.

Stupid server ate my post. Anyway, nice and sunny and warmer today. Scottmorrison99, I think that DMV pamphlet is seriously misleading. "As close as practicable" is the law in California:
21202. (a) Any person operating a bicycle upon a roadway at a speed less than the normal speed of traffic moving in the same direction at that time shall ride as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway except under any of the following situations: (1) When overtaking and passing another bicycle or vehicle proceeding in the same direction. (2) When preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway. (3) When reasonably necessary to avoid conditions (including, but not limited to, fixed or moving objects, vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, animals, surface hazards, or substandard width lanes) that make it unsafe to continue along the right-hand curb or edge, subject to the provisions of Section 21656. For purposes of this section, a "substandard width lane" is a lane that is too narrow for a bicycle and a vehicle to travel safely side by side within the lane. (4) When approaching a place where a right turn is authorized. (b) Any person operating a bicycle upon a roadway of a highway, which highway carries traffic in one direction only and has two or more marked traffic lanes, may ride as near the left-hand curb or edge of that roadway as practicable. (Amended by Stats. 1996, Ch. 674, Sec. 4. Effective January 1, 1997.) |
morning commute was awesome - sunny and warm. Also, I just found out that we're getting a shower installed at my office! I'm stoked to be done with baby wipes.
|
The ride home was a new personal best for bell usage. Lots of walkers, joggers, dogs and even a new cyclist practicing w/o training wheels. He'll have to learn to use his brakes instead of dragging his feet along the ground though. :D
|
The ride in was 42 with light rain sporadicly. I just missed a downpour by 10 minutes after getting to work. :p The trip home was a nice 62 with calm winds and partly cloudy.
|
this morning was absolutely beautiful! perfect weather, about 68 degrees, sunny, I rode with my buddy who got me started commuting. we had fun. got insults yelled at us by guys in a jeep. jerks. this afternoon-- warmer, but even the uphill ride home was not too bad. I must be getting used to it.:)

today was a pigdog. partly my fault for staying up until 2 am playing kingdom of loathing when i knew there was a lawyer downtown with my name on her for 8:30, but i'm not confessing to that. up at 7, rode bike to bus-stop, juuuuust beat bus over the intersection, loaded bike onto bus and into downtown. at 1:30 am my brilliant plan was to sleep on the bus, but i forgot about motion sickness. did the legal stuff (a corporation is me, bleah, yay?), crossed town, got on a different bus, tried to do the sleep thing again. got LOST trying to go over the alternate bridge which was where the bus goes. got to work later than my planned i'll-be-late, had trouble wedging my bike into the rack alongside all the others, left earlier than my hinted i'll-make-up-for-it. showers were both occupied at 6 pm. don't these people have homes to wash in? left my water bottle on top of the lockers when i finally got myself changed. went home in a temper without water bottle. got lost again AND fell off again - this new one is more responsive than i'm ready for, gonna have to go back to u-turn school when i'm in a better mood. sooooo tired by the exit from the regular bridge, it seemed easier to just keep going towards the other mystery bike-path than negotiate across all that traffic to my regular one. got lost again. well, not lost, but took a detour through industrial-world. found my way back to the road that i know, said sod this noise for a while, and sat on the wet grass drinking coca-cola and reading rabbit redux until it got dark. horrible day. completely my fault. edit: oh. and can i just mention that when i got home i discovered the crotch is torn out of the black warmup pants i've been riding in, on a purple underwear day? anyone makes a smart remark will get smacked. |

^^^ That doesn't count as a smart remark. ;) :D |
Short. And my first for roughly four years.
Bought a Dahon Jack on Thursday and rod to the station and back on Friday - only about 2 miles each way but better than nothing :) Got stopped by three people at the station on my way home who had never seen a full size folding bike and were dead impressed by it! Only one a-hole driver on the way in a Snap-on van - everyone else, including the tram drivers, gave me plenty of space. |
Today's commute won't be as enjoyable as usual. I work for a bicycle advocacy organization and have to work at the Dogwood Festival today AND tomorrow. http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoti...d/boese008.gif
I'm supposed to enjoy the weekend and do my regular ride to Stone Mountain -- not work!! :fight: |
The ride to work was cloudy and cool yesterday. Cleared up around 2 PM and the ride home was great.
We had strong storms Friday night and there was a downed tree and power lines blocking one of the streets that I ride to work on. Georgia Power had the street blocked so cars couldn't get through. No problem for me. I hopped on the sidewalk for 1 block and continued on my way. Another instance when a bike is superior to a car. Today the weather will be perfect for my ride to Stone Mtn. :) Wait -- I'm working again. Crap!! :crash: Oh well. Gorgeous weather for the ride to and from work. Plenty of sunshine, a high around 69F (20C), and I'll be "working" outside at the festival. http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoti.../happy/059.gif Too bad I can't ride the Litespeed but I don't have a backpack to carry lunch and work clothes (shorts and t-shirt). She'd probably die of disgrace if I put a rack and panniers on her. http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/sad/021.gif |
Stinks you have to work today, Ron. But the weather should be nicer than yesterday. Maybe I'll stop by on my way to work this afternoon.
And for everyone else, I really enjoy buying bicycle tools and parts at the hardware store. I like all my LBSes, but there is something very satisfying about picking up a dozen M5 bolts or a gigantic bucket of grease for a few dollars. Well, I'm off to the hardware store... |
Very nice ride home today. GTcommuter stopped by the festival I was working at. We rode part way home together. He turned off at Everybody's Pizza (Atlanta locals know where that is. :) ) and I continued straight.
It was nice having someone to ride with and talk to. Thanks B. |

It's Sunday and I'm at the office rather than hanging out with my kids or watching Paris-Roubaix. How the f*** do you think my commute was?
|
32 F. No wind. Great ride. 1 hour 30 mins for 20 1/2 miles. I even got to blast my new Air Zounds at one driver. :)

*ahem* My ride was nice, a little cool, but nice. It was my first commute on my new (used) trike! It needs new tires, though, as the ones that are installed have almost all the tread worn off... I'm thinking Big Apples, or maybe Schwalbe Marathons... |
Beautiful! The bike is running smoothe, cranks are quiet again, loving the SPDs, and it's getting close to the day when I can take the lights off the bike and drop some weight/rattle... Or just ride the new/old roadie that isn't yet fully equipped. Looking forward to that! A little chilly for sleeveless and no socks this morning (52F at departure) but one must do what the laundry dictates, sometimes. Warmed up quick. Wind was light, in my face for about half, but a piece of cake compared to the 25+ MPH we had at the end of last week. My ride in really offsets the general Monday blahs very well!
Picked up a new bike for the wife yesterday - LBS had a good deal going on an '05 Specialized Crossroads in her size. She seems happy and comfortable on it, so we'll be getting in some good family time this summer - kids in the trailer behind me, wife on her new wheels... Looking forward to that! |
Very pleasant!
