Maybe you should play football to heal that hamstring. When Terrell Owens injures his, he gets on a bike to heal it.... ;)

Low 60s this morning and I decided not to take a jacket so it was chilly. Saw two deer and had to wait briefly for a train. On the ride home it was mid 80s and *gasp* low humidity! I had forgotten how that felt! :D This weather is beautiful. :)

vrkelley 09-05-06 09:37 PM

Awesome commute. But on the way in I passed another biker who crashed at a light. Just couldn't get out of those clipless...he layed there for a long time on the side walk. When I hailed him, he got up and seemed OK. Hopefully, he made it to work!

I did my first commute today. I have a Karate Monkey on the way to build into a commuter, but couldn't wait to get started, so I put 60 lbs in the mtb tires, trued the rims a bit so the brakes would stop rubbing (it's a bike I use to practice trials stuff on and gets a lot of abuse), and did the 20 imles rt.

About 45 minutes each way...about the same as taking the bus in the morning. Faster than the bus in the evening.

The last part to work is all downhill/flat, so I arrived fairly cooled off. I was pretty sweaty when I got home though.

All in all, a good first commute.

had to get off and walk around the front end of a semi-with-problems at the bridge ramp this morning. ride home was enlivened by the most god-awful smell for three or four blocks of the hill. no idea what it was - wasn't any smell i've met with before in my life. kind of like they'd repaved the road surface with a mixture of fish guts and well-ripened blood, and then left it to sit all day in the sun. apologies to those eating dinner/breakfast.

GTcommuter 09-06-06 05:55 AM

Walked yesterday but rode today. Almost needed arm warmers for the first few minutes of my ride. I got over that pretty quick, but fall is in the air.

Back to work after a 4-day weekend. My legs seem to have adapted to the new Trek. I was cruising a couple of MPH faster than last week. Someone poked my thigh the other night and said it was like poking a 2-by-4. Heh heh. :o

It's squirrel season! They're everywhere. I also smelled a skunk but I didn't see it.

mwrobe1 09-06-06 06:21 AM

I did the 9 mile half-commute to the carpoolers house today. Its pretty dark outside at 5:30am now. Gotta got some more batteries for my Wally World headlight. Temperature is perfect (60 degrees)...sunny skies and no wind today. Gonna do the whole 36 mile roundtrip tomorrow. Weather should be a carbon copy of today...maybe a tad warmer. Man, 8-9 miles seems like a recreational ride now. :D

dalmore 09-06-06 06:34 AM

Was a good ride up until I stopped to adjust my headlight. My hammy cramped right afterward. :( I think I need to move my seat forward a little. I managed to get relief from the hammy by sitting on the nose of the seat the rest of the way in. Well maybe it still hurt but I was just too distracted to notice. :)

Mr_H 09-06-06 07:18 AM

Nice ride in this morning, 50s, no breeze, light traffic (except around the school). I actually got in early so I had a nice, lazy start to the day :)

Loved it, especially after a few days off and wussing out something spectacular yesterday due to the monsoon during the morning hours.

Mid-60's, low humidity, brilliant. Now if that jackass in the Benz hadnt come out of nowhere and nearly cut me in half as I tried to navigate around a stopped bus, it would have been perfect.

pinkrobe 09-06-06 07:44 AM

Lots of cyclists out, not as many cars. It's a good thing.

MyPC8MyBrain 09-06-06 07:53 AM

The thermomerter said 58f but it sure didn't feel like it. Must have been because of the fog and overcast. I wore the shell and shorts with full finger gloves. Was just about right.

Blinkies were in order this morning as it was a bit dark still. I'll be running the headlight by next week. That will suck because now I have to park my bike outside. I'll have to pull the light off, then remount it every time I ride. Sure wish I could park inside again.

truman 09-06-06 07:58 AM

Abortive, but coooool.

My headlight battery failed about two miles out, so I returned to base, and drove to the train station. It's dark enough at 6:10 that not doing so would have been dangerous. Long sleeves were definitley in order, till I get used to the cooler air, though.

worktheweb 09-06-06 08:03 AM

Nice cool weather this morning. I decided to go all out today on the way in and was able to shave five minutes off my best time :D

This is the start of my second month commuting by bicycle and I'm feeling better than I have in ages, losing weight, and I'm getting so much stronger too. It feels weird looking forward to my commute every day, but I'm loving every second :)

Didn't need arm warmers but my toes weren't as comfortable as I like for the first few miles. I guess I'll be putting the sandals away soon.
Curses. Fall is a "4-letter" word. :crash: Bring on the sunshine and the warm temps.
Nice ride though. The cagers actually behaved themselves today. :)
Only saw a few bike commuters. :(

The price was $2.48 this morning. What's happening? Seems like a few months back that some "experts" said gas would NEVER be below $2.50 again. :p

Legs have turned into logs due to my monday long rec ride.
Thank goodness I am off till monday after today. 10th wedding anniversary is tomorrow and I threw in an extra day off on friday. I hate to say it, but it's time to take 2 days off from cycling. Been riding quite a lot. I need to lay off a bit.

ModoVincere 09-06-06 09:35 AM

didn't ride in this morning. But yesterday afternoon's commute was nice. Only one moronic incident on the way home. I'm riding down windward parkway towards northpoint parkway. There's a sign about 25 ft in front of me that states bike lane is for bikes only. This bike lane ends about 1/4 mile past that sign where a lot of the cagers are making a right hand turn onto nortpoint parkway. Anyway, I'm cruising along about 20 mph and most of the cars are giving my 3 ft of room. About 1/2 way up this small hill a lady in a CRV decides she belongs in the bike lane:eek: . I mean WTF is she thinking? So i pull up on her bumper and actually decide to knock on her back window. She acts like she didn't know I was ever there.
How stupid can one be. She just past me less than one minute before.

I got a kick out the guy behind. He was laughing at her as much as I was. I think I'm starting to be able to control my temper some what. I just waved at her and waited till she could get her caboose out of the bike lane.

Black CRV? If so - she's done that to me there too!! BTW - That's a great place to get right hooked if you continue on Windward Parkway. Heads up. What time do you usually roll through there? I'm rolling thorugh usually about 7:05 or there abouts.

ModoVincere 09-06-06 11:59 AM

I usually roll through that area about 7:45 in morning. Work is only about 1 mile down windward from there, just past westside.

In the afternoon I roll through that intersection about 5:00 to 5:30 depending on work.

If you want to get together at the greenway for a lunchtime ride, just let me know.

ModoVincere 09-06-06 12:00 PM

I think it was a very dark green CRV...could have been black. I am very bad with colors.

HardyWeinberg 09-06-06 12:18 PM

Came in late today, dropped Thing1 off for his 1st day of kindergarten. Little traffic, everyone else was in work/at school by the time I hit the road. A bunch warmer after 9 than before 7!

caloso 09-06-06 12:21 PM

Saw a cyclist sitting on the sidewalk. I rode up and asked him if he needed any help. He was on his cellphone and he just looked at me, ignored me, and continued talking on the phone. Just ahead was a car parked with its hazards on and next to it was the driver, I assumed. She was on the phone too. Looked like there'd been a bit of a bike-car entanglement. But both ignored me, no one seemed to be hurt, and I kept going.

rando 09-06-06 12:29 PM

nice ride in. my knee started to hurt about halfway in, hope this is not a sign of things to come. I coasted a lot and it got better. first trip with my red-haired troll doll strapped to the bars. it's hard not to have a smile on your face when you're looking down at a troll doll. a west indian man sold it to me at a swap meet, and said he had special powers. the troll bike god guards against flats and other bike malfunctions. so far he seems to be working. hey, he even cured my knee! the bike troll is mighty.

centuryman 09-06-06 07:47 PM

Another great ride today. Morning about 10 degrees warmer today (58 F) than yesterday due to overcast skies and some clouds. Rode with nek'd legs today. Bit damp this evening after a few showers rolled through.
