no commute today, got the day off and went for a ride with my wife. did a nice 32 miles, 85 degrees sunny and beautiful today. hit 3200 miles on the cayeye. got it on march 25 do I'm hoping for 5k this year. back to commuting tomorrow.

My commute is almost too short, but that changes in 10 days. This morning was cold enough at 0530 that I came home after work and dug out the full finger gloves. Must be gettin' on towards winter.
|
Cooler this morning, 34 degrees. Ride was good both ways, no problems. Why do people ask me if I rode in when I am in full kit? Do they think I put cycling clothes on to drive in?
|
Ride home last night was plain tiring, probably one of my slowest rides - but nonetheless enjoyable, barring one idiot who very very closely cut me off on Adelaide right before Sherbourne (he got a good yell of "wtF man!, holy f%$£" and some direct eye contact and head shaking :D)
Average of 12.2mph and time of 38 mins - with a healthy thigh burn :) |
Someone threw a small salsa container and hit me on the arm. no real damage done except to my view of humanity. what a cowardly a**hole. it's not the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last. the car had Texas plates, maybe the dipsh*t was upset over the election.

It was a nice, relaxing ride in this morning after a weekend with the inlaws (I like'em, though it can be tiring sometimes). About 30 this morning with some wind...I was cold when I Started out, but I knew if I put on the jacket, I'd be sweating up a storm by the time I got in.
Just need some hot chocolate now :) |
Damp, raw air this morning. Mid-30Fs, and it rained last night. I had a pretty nice commute though. I caught a guy on an MTB but didn't pass. We cruised at 15MPH all the way in to Burlington. Then I took a road and he stayed on the MUP, but he later caught up to me at a red light and we exchanged greetings. I wanted to tell him he should move his blinkie lower on his backpack because it was ineffective up on top like it was. Should I have? Perhaps.

Nice ride in this morning. All the people in cars gave me plenty of room and I gave them plenty of respect.
Kind of cold this morning though. 33 at the Hartsfield Int'l when I left my house, so probably 31 or so on my route. Most of the cars had a nice thick coat of frost. I switched back to clipless pedals this weekend, and I think my old spd shoes are not as warm as my hikers I had been wearing. I was nice an warm everywhere except the toes. I think I'll be bringing out the wool socks pretty soon. |
Fine ride this morning. I've been riding the heavy touring bike all weekend so the singlespeed this morning was a breeze. I kept thinking something felt strange, then I realized that I was accelerating a lot less weight.
I rode around a lot yesterday and gave my iPod a try on the bike. It was a bit cumbersome to get the earbuds in place but only occasionally felt unsafe. I won't be doing it very often, the continuous background music bugged me -- I kept climbing big hills, but the music didn't slow down. Billy Bragg just kept on playing the same song regardless of my pace and I wanted to yell "shut up, I'm trying to ride my bike!!" |
Good ride in today, took the newer alternative route using a bikelane and felt noticeably faster (cruising speed wise, not overall) - enjoyable, had no problems to speak of - excellent traffic courtesy, etc. Didn't see many bikes this morning. I rode Saturday with the trailer on for a bit (~600ft. climbing in 5mi. too) and none yesterday so I was kinda rested today, maybe time to try a 5/5 week! :)
32 mins, with an average of 14.6mph (routeslip - 14.8 on my computer). |
Had a nice ride in this morning despite the fact that I was tired and really didn't want to get out of bed. Made very good time since I had a nice tailwind the whole way in. Temps are finally seasonal again so it actually feels like fall now.
|
Err... Cold. Easily the coldest day of the year. And I didn't check the weather, because I moron. So my hands froze pretty bad. They still kinda hurt, and that was hours ago. Had a jerk in a Mercedes yell the ubiqitous "get on the sidewalk , arsehole!", flipped em off, which probably wasn't the best choice, but I wasn't in the mood for any crap, as I was freezin'.
|
So sleepy and hungry this morning (slept in and had no time for breakfast). Barely crawled on my bike... Didn't even try to catch all the lights, which means I am seriously tired. Need... to... sleeeep.. . . . . . . Although I must admit a bike ride on a cool morning is one of the better ways to wake up. :)

WET.
So glad it was dry for the 10 min it took to bike w/ Thing 1 to his kindergarten. Raining hard ever since. Had a carpool w/ a coworker for a meeting out of town but we found out en route that it fell through, so she took me back home and brought my panniers in for me, so I could bike in a little lighter-weight (not bad considering all the weight of water I picked up). |
24F this am. It felt wonderful!
Something about layering properly and a nice brisk morning put me into a good mood. It is so much easier to wake up when it is colder. :p However, the two flats irritated the crap out of me. Time to order my new tires. |
I should note I was unlocking my bike this morning, felt a little discouraged because I was pretty cold - I just had to keep in my mind "it'll be warm in 2 minutes, relax!" - sure enough, the cold didn't phase me at all until I'd stopped and caught a sweat-chill - need to experiment a bit more with that... But felt really nice to ride in. Was 4C according to CP24 this morning.

Posting from home. No work today as we took the 13th for Veterans' Day.
|
Ride in was nice. Nice and cool; perfect weather for shorts and my new jersey. I must've ridden over some glass because I had a flat when I left the office tonight. I turned around and went back inside to change it. No sense in changing a tube in the cold and dark when I can do it in the warm artificial light of my office.
|
40-something F. Light drizzle all the way. Brought a foldable clothes drying rack on my bike rack. Hope it stays this warm for as long as possible.

Very nice ride in today! Clear and ~45F, no winds, no problems with any motorized vehicles. My blinky light batteries seem to be failing though, so I was a bit nervous about not being seen by passing traffic.
|
Noticed last night my front light was all but out when I got home, so it seems the other night when this was the case I hadn't knocked the switch (not that this is a knockable switch anyway) - just swapped out the batteries when I got in ready for today.
Good ride home, a bit slow but not too bad otherwise - nothing really to report basically 36 mins (35:58). Awaiting payday to get a Planetbike 5000X and then save the pennies for a more permanent solution! :) Now it's time to suit up for the ride in! |
I thought I'd get the grand slam this morning but no... Still - Hwy 9 on the green; Holcomb Bridge on the green and then Mansel road on the green so call it a Triple Crown! A red on Old Milton Parkway was the only preventing the Grand Slam. One day I'll get it!
|
Cold!!! And I was late. FD gave me some trouble this morning and I couldn't trim any out of it. I'll be taking it in during lunch for adjustments. I had to stop several times to fix things and make sure I'm going the right way. 43 miles is a long way when things aren't going right. But once I got here it waS all worth it.

Mid 40Fs. Started to sprinkle about halfway to work this morning. Not bad though. A flock of Canadian geese flew overhead, honking away.
Last night I left a little later than normal and wound up riding in mostly-dark. A huge bird swooped out of some trees, over the road, and back into trees on the other side. I think it was either a female eagle, or a great horned owl. The wingspan was 4 feet at least. |
Another in-between morning (41F / 5C). Cool when I left but warmed up by the time I got close to work.
Cooperative traffic except for one A-hole. I don't understand some commuters. Yesterday (31F / 0C) I saw a commuter wearing a heavy jacket, gloves, and (running?) shorts. Saw the same today, different person in a different area of town. He looked like he was wearing tri shorts. Brrrr! Don't their legs/knees get cold? It was cold enough that I wore leg warmers. :o |
