Glad to hear you found a new house, hope you find a better commute route soon...nothing is worse than scary intersections in Albuquerque!

Wife and I are meeting tonight to hopefully accept an offer from one of her co-workers on our house, and then we'll be looking for one and moving soon too! Where did you end up buying? We're basically looking all over right now, in the 250,000 range...lots of options...some of the bad, some of them far (west side) but we've found a few we really liked so far...



Nice commute today, did my 20 mile route, I was supprised I felt as I good as I did after my weekend folly of climbing to the crest! looking forward to a hot, sweaty, short commute home to meet about selling the house...should be fun.

A very nice morning. I got up early and rode down to Clarksburg (a little Delta town just south of Sacramento), swung by the polls to vote, home to shower and change. I switched from my roadie to my garage-sale bomber, an 80s vintage Specialized Rockhopper that I like to call Super Fred II (he replaces the original Super Fred, a GT Outpost that developed a condition that would have cost many more times to fix than the bike was worth).

It was a very pleasant ride, except that at one intersection I was nearly taken out by a couple of yahoos riding into the intersection from the sidewalk. What is it about Sacramento and the morons on the sidewalk? Sheesh.

nicely odd commute today. Sun was out and the weather is beautiful. Got hit by a guy in a PT Cruizer that wasn't paying attention. Nothing major, I turned into him so I didn't hit dead on. Minor scrapes on my elbow and the bike was fine. The guy was freaking out. Very apologetic and kept asking if he could do anything for me. I just told him to watch out for us(bike riders).

When I got to work a vendor was there and opened the door for me. He mentioned that his sister loved Portland because alot of us bike to work. Then he asked if he could shake my hand so he could tell his sis that he shook the hand of a bike commuter in Portland.

Even with the little accident I made it to work in 10 minutes before I ussually do. I don't know how, I got caught by more stop lights than ussual.

Lets see what the ride home has in store for me. I have to stop by the bank and thats going to take me off my normal route.

So what qualifies as a long commute around here? I always get looks of amazement when I tell people I ride 10 miles one way to work.

Awesome fast short ride. 20mph over 4.1miles...arriving in just 12minutes (granted this was a rare ride with only one hill rather than 4... it felt good to move

Heh, I wish. We've moved to a small temporary apartment, near Montgomery and Eubank. Still looking.

Rode my bike to school. Short ride, all hills. cool, and humid, not too bad. saw one commuter
Me and my buddy went for 30 mile road ride, was all nice intill it rained, then hailed . I forgot my new oakleys i had just bought , and the hail basicly killed are eyes, and the rain was cold... but i would do agian in a heartbeat!! and on the way home, we saw this one commuter, i had seen this guy before, he has ridden past my house many of times since i was young. i wish i had a picture of him on his bike... it has 3 coolers, one radio, fenders, a flag, and about 20 reflectors...sweet

quick commute in on comm ave and a nice roll home on the bike path. discovered that I could carry a case of 12 oz beer bottles in my milk crate and still have room for my almost empty backpack and my lock.

Nice ride both ways. Almost home when I hear a vehicle approaching on the wrong side of the road behind me. Had to signal him there was an oncoming car rounding the next turn..I was doing 27 in a 25, did he really need to endanger us all to speed? Been steadily bumping up the aveage speed on my rides, today was 18.9. The route with less stop signs route is much faster.(of course it is only 6 miles.)

i passed someone this morning (huh? me?). there's a minor little rise of about a block in the earlier part of my trip in, which i've had some trouble with myself. this morning as i came up to it there was someone else about 3/4 of the way up, looking just exactly the way i remember feeling nine or ten months ago. his bike looked all the wrong size for him too, from the little i know. i wasn't even sure if i'd be passing him, but i was going to just tactfully do it in the middle of the road once it seemed clear his struggles weren't just temporary. but he looked round and saw me. so i said 'morning!' as i came level and then 'nice bike!' as i passed. which it was, and i was feeling all shy and apologetic-like too.

and then he caught up to me at the endless light at the bottom of the downhill, and probably heard me nattering to myself and wiping my nose on my shirtsleeve and all. at least this time i wasn't singing ave maria or the monty python philosopher's song, or thinking out loud about how my kid's shaping up as a catcher this year. sigh. dorks-r-us.

gorgeous morning ride though, and another nice one on the way home. it's just the location that i hate with all this passion and dedication. once you're out there, there's just nowhere and nothing to EAT.

For the remainder of this year, my 20 km commute through varying parts of the city and its suburbs has been transformed into a meager 4 km ride through downtown Stockholm... The good part is of course that I save a lot of time, but I guess the downside is pretty obvious to you all.

It was a great morning though: sunny and warm, and virtually no traffic. What takes me 10-15 minutes in the morning, will take me at least 20 on the ride home - just because the increase in cars, bikes, and pedestrians.

Started early this morning, so the sun was still low. A bit chilly and breezey (14 C and the wind around 6 m/s). I saw a heron pair where the bike trail wraps the marsh and aside from some grey haired guy on a beatup old Winther (who passed me like I was standing still) had the bike trail to myself the last 17 km to work. The wind appears to be picking up for the commute home though...

Very comfortable this morning, temperatures in the 50's. One rude pickup truck who insisted on passing my and then pulled into a parking lot a block up. This is going to be a biking day with errands over lunch, then off to the city transportation plan meeting to advocate for bicyclists.

A very nice ride again, great weather and everything.

Yeah if you make a mistake, you end up inside a cave with an impetuous duck and an irate Arab! (Some readers will understand.)

Nice commute this morning. Roughly 60F and overcast, but no wind. I passed the same group of three commuters that I passed a couple of days ago.

Wet, Windy today, a real challenge not to overheat. I've set my Lemond Reno up for wet weather so I'll be riding that the rest of the week. I plan to ebay the frame (too big) and grab one of those new XRP Comp frames from Nashbar.

Everything was great until i wiped out on a freshly painted crosswalk. Yeah, don't flame me, but this crosswalk wasn't at a normal intersection. It is the only way to get across a fork onto a curb cut and a MUP trail. It just started showering, traffic was clear and I didn't notice the new paint. It's worse than ice. Wham! Road rash down my left side, cracked my helmet. But I was concerned more about my bike, and only the brake hoods got scraped up.

Made it the rest of the way to work, cleaned up and now more bruised ego than anything. I hate road rash...

No ride today. My m-in-law fell again yesterday (3rd time in <3 weeks) so I have to leave at lunchtime and help my wife get her to the doctor.

GT -- the truck thing -- I know what you're talking about. Same thing happened to me last week.

Soaking rain and wind, but otherwise great.

Perfect weather: 15c, sunny, no wind. Unfortunately, motorists are progressively becoming more aggressive and dangerous. Stopped at a red light 15m beyond where the bike lane temporarily stops, I watched a car in my rear-view mirror race along in the bike lane behind me, squeezing between the line of cars in the through lane to his left and the line of parked cars on the right, next to the bike-lane. Naturally, he roars right up on me and honks for me to get out of his way when the light turned green and decided to accelerate past me two inches from my left. The woman in the van who made her left turn right in front of me a short time afterward seemed startled that my AirZounds horn was so loud as I swerved to miss slamming into the front quarter panel of her van, but still thought it was worth it to risk my life rather than wait two seconds while I passed in my ROW. Other than that, a fine ride. I need a drink. Sigh.

Yesterday after work I raced a haboob home.
Riding NNE, I made it just in time as it aproached from the SE at 30mph.

I did my very firsy commute today! I am dedicated to riding my bike to work from now on. Everyday. I ride a LeMond Reno with a 105 group. it's only a six mile ride but at 20mph it takes less time then it did in my car!!! I love missing all the traffic.

Riding to work Monday morning I noticed that someone had left a wad of plastic bags filled with what appeared to be fish guts / fins / etc. on the side of the bike path - presumably to rot in the sun.

This morning, I could tell that the offensive material was still there, at least 200 yards (downwind) before I saw the pile. I called the city to have them send someone out to clean it up, but I'm not optimistic that it'll happen anytime soon.

Yikes! My commute was fast and good both ways, no haboobs. No maniac drivers either, maybe because I only had to work half a day. The nuts are still working.

It was cool, overcast and misting this morning when I left. Most of the ride was into a steady headwind. Even then, it only took me 4.5 minutes more to complete the ride (33.85 miles).

Seeing as this is only my second full week of commuting by bicycle, I'm still learning what pace I need to keep in order to get to work in a reasonable amount of time. Right now, I'm around 14mph average for the distance. My goal is to get my average speed up to 17mph. That would make the commute a nice round 2 hours.
