I worked from home this morning to let the temps rise above 0 F. I finally headed out about 8:30am with temps holding at 4 F. It felt quite warm despite these temps due to the strong spring sun. I think the artic cold will soon be a faint memory.
Bring on the spring. |
I think a lot of people stayed home today because of the storm warning. Yesterday's massive backups did not materialize. It all seems absurd because the roads are clear and nothing is forecast until late afternoon.
There are some bike trails that I use for part of my commute. They are more direct than the street network and avoid several very long traffic lights. In all, my detour adds about 10 minutes to a 30 minute commute.. Paul |
Nice ride this morning. Wet roads, brisk air, and a sun that wants to get out, but the clouds are forbidding it. Had a nice pace for the ride.
I did lose a velcro strap last night that held my waterbottle battery to the back of my seatpost. ugh, now I need to stop by the store for a replacement. |
Broke another spoke on the way in. I am thinking of getting a 36 spoke wheel on the back due to the weight I carry. Had a beautiful ride in. Last night the bus rack was full so I got a bonus 18 mile ride in!

Very mellow on the way in. Cool and cloudy but probably won't rain.

A warm morning early on, but thankfully we got some drizzle that seemed to cool things slightly. I felt invincible this morning.

Last night the velcro strap holding my water bottle battery fell off my bike somewhere. lo-and-behold, I found it on the side of the road on my way home tonight. It didn't fall off, it split in half. Looks like I'll have indeed to buy a new one.
I was just impressed I saw it out of the corner of my eye. I doubled back, and it was it. I added an extra 15 miles to my commute home this eve. I thought it would have been 20.. guess I'll have to find even more of an extension. |
Very nice on the way in. Clear and warmer, 40f. I've taken a few weeks off and lo and behold I'm getting tired after just 3 days commuting again, still feels great to be out. I stopped counting at a dozen other folks heading to work on their bikes this AM. Funny how I don't see any on the way home! (I leave work at 9pm.)

I missed a day through illness on Wednesday. Made the ride to work taking it easy yesterday and was nearly back on full form today. Our weather has been very kind this week with sunshine and warm temperatures. Spring is on its way!
Have a good weekend folks, Ed |

The chilly, wet days earlier in the week are past, now. Today it will be in the mid 50's and partly sunny, with a tiny tailwind.
Guess I may be able to strip down to shorts and tee shirt, if things work out! :D |
Perfectly sunny today. Was cold at first, but warmed up quickly.
I hope it sticks around all weekend long. I can't wait to start shedding some layers! Bring on spring!! |
After the dire forecasts, last night's snow turned out to be about 5 inches (8 cm). Once out of my neighborhood, the roads were wet and black. In spite of the easy conditions, there was very little traffic.
The suburbs seemed to have more of a problem, as all schools were closed and most of my office staff failed to make it downtown. It is a surreal experience to listen to all the school closings and then sail into work on mostly clear roads. Paul |
finally back to riding 2 days not because of being a wimp and my normal 2 days off i was kinda looking forward to this am's ride in! pretty nice weather was mild mid 30's. however around 11 am it started snowing with a vengeance luckily its too warm and wet to stick. the ride home will be pretty good.

Had a monster basketball game last night, and today's ride in was just what my sore legs needed. I have really come to enjoy the "morning after" ride, where I can zoom in on my bike to stretch my legs out.
Brilliantly clear and chilly by San Jose standards. I had a bit of a close call today where the lanes narrowed near a construction area, and a parked car took away whatever remained of the lane. The funnel resulted in my almost being brushed by an SUV. In retrospect, I should have either taken the lane or, in this case, simply waited for the traffic at the light to clear instead of pushing it, although the SUV driver was of course totally clueless. But better to be safe than to rail against SUVs. |

Enjoyed a nice ride today. Still a little rain, but roads were not slick. The morning rides are the nicest. I love getting to work and watch my coworkers trying to get going. I have all this energy from the ride.

They have begun repaving a zone on my commute. They have done the "Grate the edge of the road" step. So my bike lane has been reduced to something almost totally unrideable. I find myself riding in the 2nd lane over for some of it when traffic isn't nearby.
I hope they lay the asphault soon. I really don't like riding while simultaneously having my teeth vibrated out of my head. |
Friday night I went a different way in order to meet my wife and kids at the mall. Still got about 13 miles in.
|
typical nice fast Sunday commute no traffic... makes for a nice commute
|
Thursday and Friday I didn't ride, I just couldn't face 20 minutes of dressing. This has been a long winter and I gave myself permission to wimp out. Now that I feel up to riding tomorrow, the temperature is dropping! Ah the wages of sin.
|
It is raining cats and dogs today. So no ride for me today. Four degrees lower and we would have had one heck of a snow storm. Back on the bike tomorrow with high winds and cool temps predicted.
|
Superb today, but on my way home last week my mate had an accident on cobbles (car cut him up). Then we had to stop as I got really bad vibration through the bars and my front wheel was dragging.
I thought a bearing had gone. Turned out to be about a quarter inch of compressed mud on the guard, jamming the wheel!!! Oooops. |
this am was pretty nice for a monday. would you believe I saw somwone else commuting on my same route this am?? maybe I am influencing peple after all? any way tried real hard to maintain 15 mph into the wind all the way pretty much did which surprised me. all in all a god ride I am looking forward to a few nicer days so I can get out more just for fun.

First commute in two weeks! The DC snow had me beaten down . Main roads were clear today but unless it warms up soon it may be weeks before the bike paths are again passable. In parts, they have been used as a repository to dump snow from the roads.
Still a great ride, nice bracing day, approx 30 degrees and windy |
Cool and misty here this morning. I was a bit slow to get going but OK after warming up.
Cheers, Ed |
Oops -- put this in the wrong thread!
The morning's temperature in DC was a bit lower than 30 F -- 19.9 F (-6.7 C), to be exact. Wind chills were -6 F (-21 C). That's why it seemed brisk! The pavement was so dry that I decided to try the Washington Boulevard and Route 50 trails. As in your area, they had been used as repositories for plowed show in spots. There were a few 30 foot stretches of glare ice, but they were mostly dry and clear. I had to walk the bike around a few 5 foot mounds, but they were otherwise passable. It was good to arrive at work without the 10 minute penalty of my detour out Columbia and Walter Reed, and I enjoyed the adventure. Paul |
