Commute was fine, but I felt like I was in a mental fog the whole time. My body seemed to know what it was doing, but it seemed like mentally, I was "off" today. Must be the lack of sleep/coffee.

TRaffic Jammer 03-05-07 08:34 AM

Tear-the-skin-off-your-face WINDY!!! Ok not THAT windy, but you get the idea....and it'll be 10-15 degress C colder when I go home.

A bit chilly today. It shouldn't have been, but I decided that I didn't really need my windbreaker. I was wrong.

HardyWeinberg 03-05-07 10:54 AM

Nice and warm (nearly 50F), humid.

jamesdenver 03-05-07 11:02 AM

Perfect in Denver. 35 out, up to 60 later today. Nice dry roads, with a bit of overcast sky so the sun wasn't blinding me on the eastbound streets.

caloso 03-05-07 12:27 PM

Cool and overcast but pleasant. I did not push hard on the way in and was rewarded with green lights all the way through. Hmmmmm......

oilfreeandhappy 03-05-07 07:49 PM

I'm on business in St. Louis, where I picked up a folding bicycle. I rode it in to work today. It was nice, with weather up to about 60 deg F.

vrkelley 03-05-07 11:16 PM

Awesome weather. Semi-drive pavement both routes...very rare...a welcome change

buzzman 03-05-07 11:47 PM

I have this week off! :D

So I managed to get some road rides in over the weekend and today ran errands on the Buzz. so happy to have gotten through the winter with (knock wood) no major mechanical issues on the bike. Of course, just as I was, literally, having that thought I was whipping through Harvard Square and flying into the tunnel that comes up to Cambridge/Kirkland Street and I'm nailing it to go through there taking up the full right hand lane and leaning hard into the curve at the bottom of the hill as it enters the tunnel and there, right in the middle of the lane is the mother of all pot holes. I've gone from the bright light of day to the dark of the tunnel and it's hard to tell just how bad the pot hole actually is and exactly, "How deep is that pot hole?" Well, by now I've nailed it and I'm just hoping it's not so bad that it's going to send me sliding on my side through this dark tunnel and I'm through it but I can tell I've hit hard on that back rim. But the bike holds like a champ and I get through it but as I hit the brakes at the next intersection I realize something ain't right with that rear wheel now. I dinged my rim! It's pretty bad but I can fix it. It took a heavy wallop and I'm amazed I didn't taco my wheel I hit so hard.

Had a good ride otherwise but my legs were heavy from the road rides and the wind was hard and cold in my face the whole ride home.

First morning in ages I had too much to wear!

It felt great, means spring is somewhere in the neighborhood, right?

Wulfheir 03-06-07 07:52 AM

Left earlier than usual, saw another commuter with no front light. he was completely invisible from the front, although he had a decent rear blinkie.

Got to work before my boss showed up with the keys so I did some stretching and so on until he arrived. The electrician waiting in his idling car in the parking lot probably thinks I'm a fruit.

jrubzer 03-06-07 08:31 AM

The 40mph gusts on the Manhattan Bridge were pretty brutal.... no fun today.

TRaffic Jammer 03-06-07 08:32 AM

-21C.. ...-32C with the windchill.
chilly...cover ALL exposed skin.

worktheweb 03-06-07 08:58 AM

Last night brought 25mph winds and 38mph gusts ... and for once they were tailwinds. I made it home in record time, shaving 15 minutes off my average.

Joshua88 03-06-07 09:30 AM

I rode to school today in single digits. 7 degrees I believe. It was pretty windy too. Hopefully it will warm up by the time I have to ride home.

knucklesandwich 03-06-07 10:12 AM

Worst commute ever this morning. I've done colder, and I've done windier, but today's combo of the two was a killer. By necessity, I ride south, then west (the longest bit) then north, and the wind seemed to be in my face the whole way.

habernac 03-06-07 10:46 AM

Kind of weird seeing all the bad weather out east instead of out here. Other than the ice, the conditions are great here. Learned yesterday that it's a stupid idea to take the dirt shortcut when it's thawing. My drive train did not like me very much.

caloso 03-06-07 10:49 AM

Did another long detour towards the Delta on the fixed gear before heading back north towards the office. I chose a straighter and better paved route than my usual route but there were too many cars passing me at 65mph+ to make it enjoyable. I'll head back to the levee tomorrow.

In the elevator a guy asked me how far I rode. When I said "about 28 miles," his mouth literally hung open.

TRaffic Jammer 03-06-07 10:50 AM

 cuz it isn't dirt when thawing is it?

"Chilly" ?!?!?

TRaffic Jammer 03-06-07 10:51 AM

Yea one of my toes and a finger tip were starting to get cold when i arrived at the office.
Cool seeing the steam coming off the lake this morning in the sun.

substructure 03-06-07 11:03 AM

I made it easier - relaxed. Didn't run into the lone ranger today. I passed someone last week coming the other way over Crowders Mountain. Not today though.

The dog I race up Morgan Street beat me today. Fat bugger must have lost some weight. I think he had a head start. I had to slam my brakes so I wouldn't run him over. We'll see next time.

Front page of today's paper: :D

"Weather couldn't be better for Valley
Joseph W. Cox

The expectation of clear sunny skies this week have the Valley steadily rolling toward that time of year when most feel the weather here can't be beat.

Today a high of 80 degrees is expected with some light clouds that may linger through the evening and into Wednesday.

High clouds may be present throughout the day Wednesday and temperatures may reach 83 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday is expected to be clear with highs again around 83 degrees.

Relief from the battering wind seen over the weekend is expected as well over the next few days. Winds are expected to top out at a speed of only 9 mph."

-20C this morning, -30C with windchill. It wasn't too bad, except that I haven't reapplied Catcrap (defogging agent) to my glasses and windscreen in a while. My breath instantly froze onto my lenses making it very difficult to see...

TRaffic Jammer 03-06-07 12:03 PM

Catcrap? What is this Catcrap you speak of?

I hate you. :p

Beautiful morning. Sunny, 40sF. Supposed to cloud over and start raining this afternoon. 'course, they said that yesterday too.

jyossarian 03-06-07 01:07 PM

Finally got to see how the narrower bars I put on my bike do in traffic. Passed between a truck and car that were moving and didn't have to worry about my bars bumping mirrors. Might've surprised the driver, but he was moving too slow for me and didn't have anyone in front of him so I got in front of him after I passed and dropped him. Cold out today, but I was toasty enough.
