Nice commute today, its starting to get back to Florida temp again.
Oh yea, and I bought a old Aerowind roadie on the way home |
windy, wet and wild. Much congrats to the marathon runners who ran in this weather yesterday. Didn't have much zip today on the way in or on the way back home. Interesting to watch the waves running in the opposite direction to their usual flow on the Charles River.
One of those days where I'm just glad I rode at all. |
Fast. It was raining like crazy, but stupid me figured "oh, my commute's so short I don't need no rain pants."
Big mistake. So now I'm cranky and embarrassed in soaking jeans. |
Chilly! The low temp was 46F, but for some reason it seemd much colder than that. Who knows. The ride in was good though, getting light early enough now that I can shut the headlights off at ~ 6:30.
Tailwind for the ride home!! |
Wet! 40 degrees, light wind, and lots of rain. I opted to bring the roadie into work to see how it faired in the rain. For future reference, if it's raining, take the bloody commuter. The lack of fenders made a mess:)

Great ride in today- nice to have the wind dropping to "good exercise" speed, rather than the recent high winds w/ potential dangerous gusts.

36F-40F.
I improvised and took my lightweight tights and combined them with my lightweight leg warmers. Just perfect! My heavy weight performance tights are better below freezing than during warmer temps. Finally figured out how to fill that missing gap. In similar temps as Monday's commute, I used my jacket this time to determine how much it slows me down. 2 mph was the verdict. During my breather at the south end of washington park it occured to me that my breath seemed awfully steamy. Nope not my breath. It was the rest of my body. :p It has been a while since that has happened to me. Most of my clothing is a tad wet from sweat and leftover moisture from yesterday's rain. |
Uneventful. Nothing to see here, move along...
|
This morning was great. The sun poked through the clouds a bit and traffic was light. Also, no flats. The ride home sucked. 8C and raining. I'm freezing! It looks like rain tomorrow too so I'm going to take the day off and take the train.
|
'Twas a grey morning, and a wee bit gusty as we rode in today. We came up behind a nice Carerra 4S, then eventually got ahead of him through the power of superior navigation. The forecast calls for rain, then rain mixed with snow, then snow. Wheeee!
|
Grey morning. Damn left side saddlebag kept popping off (on bumps). I just need some better saddle bags.
The assist system worked pretty well, maintained an average of 28 km/h with peaks going as high as 45 km/h (on a mountain bike). I think I need a taller gear up front. I find I'm pedaling so fast in top gear that my legs are going to disconnect and go flying all over the place. Worked up a bit of a sweat. Not too bad considering the weather (cold). But come summer time, I'm going to slow down a bit to avoid getting to the office all sweaty. |
Getting a tad warmer in the mornings. was something like 40f today.
Nice ride today. No wind. No crazy drivers. No nothing bad. Just the way we like it! |
Today's ride in wasn't bad. Rained some at the start of my ride and then had stopped about 15 minutes later. Took my about 32 minutes to get the 9 miles to light rail today. Finally found my full fingered gloves after we moved so my hands weren't cold at all this morning. But I ripped one of my booties this morning and wasn't wearing them so my feet got soaked and even though I am in dry socks, my feet are still cold.

I was running late this morning, trying to spare my wife from having to deal with my 3-year old daughter's morning tantrum. I rode the race bike today, hoping that I'll have the opportunity for a long ride home. If I lean back from the computer, Mt. Diablo is perfectly framed in the window, a big black lump sitting at the edge of the Valley.... Do I feel a case of velofluenza coming on? *cough* *cough*

Scolded by a school bus driver this morning. After the bus stopped to pick up a kid I passed on the right in the bike lane while the bus was waiting for the kid to sit uo something. At the next stop sign she got on her intercom thing and told me to stop next time. I know the law and know I was in the wrong but I also have common sense and wasn't putting anyone in danger. Just rolling past a stopped bus in a bike lane at 5mph after all kids were loaded. Anyway... scold me here too if you will.
Besides that, nice and foggy and enjoyable. |
Gotta coffee, 1/4 bagel and an XL T-Shirt at the local cafe for Bike to Work Day. There were about 15-20 other commuters there at 6:50am. This was about one of 7 or so cafes that were BTW day stops.
Yeah, XL. I asked for M, but forgot to check the tag as I was putting it in my bag. Al |
It was colder this morning, 40F. My teeth were chattering for the initial 10 minutes of the ride. I only had my short bib, a jersey and a windbreaker on. Took it nice and slow for my recovery day and only averaged about 14mph. I broke the recovery ride at the final 3 degree inclined 3 mile leg of the commute though to see if I can hang with another commuter, older gent probably 50+, who was spinning at his lowest gears. I hanged for a minute then I got dropped like a rock. Man, you old folks have some major stamina.:D
|
Did an actual trackstand yesterday. It surprised the hell out of me. No trackstand today though. :( Ride in was uneventful, just the way I like it.
|
I got dropped by my larger twin yesterday on the ride home yesterday. From a distance he looked like me but 50 punds heavier: road bike, black bike shorts, day glo yellow-green jersey, and wearing a backpack. He breezed by me and said hi. I didn't feel too bad as the guy was obviously commuting.
I almost made up for it later by reeling in a roadie ahead of me. But I had to turn off for home before I caught up to him. |
Ride up to see my daughter was great, too bad that the Cherry St. bridge is still out, I took the very car-friendly industrial, dirty looking lakeshore boulevard instead. Didn't wear the do-rag for this journey, felt nice and was great to have a bit more warmth for the ride.
Had a passenger in an SUV yell out "BIKEPATH" at me, but they were going too fast and I couldn't catch them to reply. Man I felt a lot of verbal build up on that one ;) Ride home from my visit wasn't bad either, lovely warm temperatures meant I just caught a chill on slowing down, was starting to get a little cold but just kept the RPM up and my bodyheat worked against that. No dramas, got a big waft from the Nestle chocolate factory just getting home, so I felt compelled to go get a hot chocolate once home :) Still a tad sore, so I used today, my heavy college book day, as a rest day to be back on again tomorrow. |
Nice ride in. I got to ride the new/used bike in today. Its alot faster then my MTB!!!
I need to get a rack for it though, I cant stand backpacks. I might even splurge for some of the $25 panniers on Nashbar instead of a milk crate on this one....... |

. I have accidently hit a kid that darted out in between two cars into the street. There was no room to stop and I was alongside a minivan and just couldn't see the 3ft something kid while he was in between the cars. I was not in the wrong but I felt real bad for having hurt him. So any chance I have to not hurt a kid, I will take. |
I was arrested and took a beating over the weekend so I hadn't commuted until today, but I had to go downtown to see a lawyer and since my wife works down there I just strapped the bike to the back, dropped the keys off with her, and biked it home (well, to the coffee shop next to home). I've decided that I'm ready to ride again, just not carry any appreciable amount of weight on my back yet. After about 6 miles my back was already killing me under the weight of my laptop, some books, my tool bag and a few other odds-and-ends (computer hard drive, geeky gamer stuff).
The ride itself was nice and I'm glad to be back on my bike. No more maglite blows to the back, please. :) |

No commute due to no bike yet, but a question:
I inserted where I live and my destination on google maps. It shows my trip as 4.2 miles and about 10 minutes while driving. From looking at it, it looks way more then 4.2 miles hah. My question is, how long of a bike ride is it? |

TranDZ: 4.2 miles is around 15-20 mins. depending on how fast you can ride and the roads you ride on. My commute home was uneventful. Yay! |

my commute was much less painful. the weather in Boston is still weird with huge gusts of wind from the NNE and chilly rain. My ride home tonight was a mix of hard intervals and pushing along at a strong steady pace- I was pretty wiped out by the time I got home. |
Well the roads are paved, and sidewalks are empty that early so I can use them to not have a school bus behind me. And average speed I guess. Don't have energy at 6:30 AM to do much :(.
|
Driving rain in the inbound route. Rain pants sprung a major leak. Spare socks in the locker...were missing 1 sock. Gads. Brrr cold wet socks for first few hours.
Discovered that you can dry the sock while on the foot with a paper towel. Then wrap the foot with another and put the sock back on.Another paper towel around outside of sock...instant warm feet. Socks were dry in 1 hr! |
:p warm feet! But I'll bring a fresh spare pare tomorrow and plug that leak :p
