First commute in a long time....normally I take my son (3rd grade) to school. He saw it was bike to work day, and wanted to bike to school also (close to work). He even got up early to do so. So we did the 5 miles one way. I had to really think about the route...my normal route is on roads more busy than I am comfortable with. So off we went, he on his BMX and me on my commuter. good trip avg spd of about 10 mph. We got to school earlier than we normally do and my son had bragging right.
So all in all a good day, and one that I think we will repeat at least a couple of times a week. |

had a film shoot out in Concord so I rode out there for the job (about 18 miles) worked until about 10 pm and then headed home in the dark on quiet country roads. Nice to get a long day of work and a decent bike ride in on the same day. Misty on the way in this morning and the way home at night.

Another post made me wonder... what ever happened to The Scofflaw? Those were the best commuting threads ever! :D Edit: Oh, and the commute was fine. Slept in, so couldn't ride the long route. I never ride the long route  |
40F and overcast. Happy bike to work day! It was a fast commute this morning. I hope the guy who tried to reel me in will still have legs to ride home. :p
When I got here, some guy was outside smoking a cigarette and he said, "How was the trek in this morning?" Groan! I resisted the urge to go over and beat him with my bike (a Trek.) |
I did my first commute ever today!!!
The distance is 9.6 miles, and it took me 38 minutes. It felt really good! |
5th day in a row for me. Doesn't happen that much as there's usually an off site meeting or stormy weather or whatever that forces me to drive in. Slept in an extra ~ 30 minutes today so I could attend the Bike to Work breakfast at 7:00. I was ~ 15 minutes early, so ended up helping out with set-up for a few minutes before scarfing down a bagel and some coffee. I was the only rider there until ~ 7:15 so I think the organizers were getting a little nervous. Luckily ~8-10 riders showed up between 7:15-7:30. Saw another 3 headed that way as I finished my ride in to work.

First commute today. The road I normally ride on was closed for ironically a "Transportation Meeting". That made for a great ride since I was the only one on the road except for a few fellow riders.

No commute for me today--on Bike to Work Day of all things, when I'm a 5x-a-week commuter. The crud I had yesterday is still with me and getting worse. Probably not helped by having to do a 3 a.m. feeding of the baby. :(

gorgeous day---little traffic, sunny skies--friday---and its pay day. Perfect commute. I was dismayed however, not to see only 1 other commuter out this morning.
|
This morning started out rather cold, I had to use long pants, but it warmed up quick so I had to ditch them after a couple of miles. After that, it was pretty nice.
I am saddened that even though it's Bike to Work Day I didnt see a single other bike commuter:( I'm even more saddened that work didn't do anything for it this year (last year they had a free breakfast) :( |
people at work have been laughing at me all week and asking where I put my tights

Wow, great day, cool with tail wind. I'm getting used to my forced routing around a construction zone. A plus is that the roads under construction are being avoided by other traffic. Unfortunately the detour routes have more traffic then usual, but are less bike friendly.
I called the cuonty to complain about the lack of planning for cyclists. Turns out the cheif engineer is an avid cyclist. Hard to keep up a rant when the other guy agrees with you. Didn't realize it was bike to work day. I did see another commuter which was one more then usual. Odometer turns 1000 miles for the year today! |
nice ride in this morning. Had one young lady that I would pass and then she would pass me. Each time she came to a stop she kept moving further over to the right like she was trying to block me from passing her again. Finally, she pulled far enough over I couldn't get passed without going off the road. I just went around on her left and looked back at her. She was really cute and looked like she was really bored sitting in traffic. I think she was just playing around trying to entertain herself.
Other than her, nothing else of interest. |
Met up with a couple of people from the local bike commuting Meetup group for a Bike to Work Day "bike train" for a few miles of the route. Around here, three people is definitely a train! It was fun to meet some new folks and share the ride. Even saw another group of 3 riders headed in another direction. Five other commuters is usually my weekly count :) We even got a friendly honk and wave from someone.
It was rainy, but I got less wet than I did on Tuesday when I tried to time my commute in between storm systems (stayed dry halfway). Hopefully won't be too stormy for the ride home. |

I knew it was warming up so I went with shorts anyway. Nice ride in, quite a few commuters - obviously I see more when I ride into work at a decent time, rather than waiting for the last minute to go in. I finish early today, so I'm riding to meet a buddy, then going home to change bikes, then get the MTB and ride up to pick up my daughter in the trailer (not convinced the roadie would like having a trailer on at all ;)) Also going to take the step to switch out my tyres to the road treads on the MTB, I've had enough of the knobbies now. Riding this roadie is addictive, I'm set for riding out of town on it next weekend - that should be a fun trip (~65miles one way). |

Today was like a recovery ride, recovering from 3 days of sloth and overeating at a conference. I tried to go running the morning after the 1st night there, but hurt my back. Still managed to get some walking in at least. Sheesh. Biked in w/ my wife today (after dropping Thing 2 at her preschool; I knew something was up when I was gasping a little pulling the empty trailer back up the hill to the house). Well, I'm leaving early today, and might leave even earlier to squeeze in time for some extra miles before getting home, start the rehab process...

Decided to Italify my commuter a bit: put a nice vintage Campy aero seat post on it. And I started thinking about how international the bike is: The saddle, seatpost, stem, and bar tape are from Italy (Campy, 3ttt, and Cinelli); the drivetrain is Japanese (Shimano and Suntour); the wheels are French (Mavic); the tires are Dutch (Vredstein); and the frame is from Waterloo, Wisconsin, USA (Trek).
Anyway, the ride in was pleasant but direct and therefore too short. |
Best day all year for weather. Kinda nice for bike to work week.
|
Today is the first time I've biked round trip to work for 3 days in one week. My round trip commute is 22 miles. I'm stoked!
|
It was really grey this morning, threatening rain. Thankfully, it looks like I will not get soaked on the way home. Huzzah!
|
Sunny but cold. 38F starting out. No wind so no windchill. Didn't take long to start stripping off the layers, though, as the sun came out (nice thing about spring vs winter). Reinstalled my aerobars so made the ride much sweeter. Commute home will be in the high 60's, temp-wise, with 0 windspeed. Looks like an excellent commute home shaping up. Just a few more hours of slaving away here at work and then I get to hop on the bicycle. Work to bicycle; bicycle to work.

Forecasts in Calgary are very unreliable, remember last month when the forecast was for a grey, cool, dry day at 9am? On the way in at 9.20am it was, "What the @!#$ is this white stuff?" |
Bike lanes sound like a luxury. Biking in England is definately frowned upon. Cars have no respect for bikers at all.
I often enter a roundabout not knowing if I'll get off it in one piece. Todays bike was event free though. I do 10 miles each way. with rush hour traffic I do it quicker than in the car. However I often feel the need to catch up with a car at the lights and let them know what I think. I'm not aggresive normally but it just winds me up. |
