Great ride home. The temp was perfect and the bike felt really good. Climbing up Sepulveda was a lot faster today. Took the difficult route and managed a PB avg.

my ride home tonight...was supposed to be 13 but got bumped up a bit.

Big Ron 05-23-07 05:31 AM

Had a nice ride home yesterday. Hit 42 mph on a down hill. I was doing ~ 30 in a 25 and had taken the lane but some moron in a car kept trying to pass me. I got annoyed enough that I floored it and dropped him like a bad habit.....Funny thing is, after the hill bottomed out and started going up my speed obviously dropped quite a bit, maybe to 12-14 mph, but then he would not pass me.....dumb ass!! I had to wave him (or her) around me to get him to pass. Whatever....
The ride in this AM was just about perfect-58 F with a light tailwind, low humidity. No traffic issues. Averaged 17.4

Beautiful ride in today. Bad news is I got a flat. Good news is I was right in front of my workplace. I wish Indiana would clean these roads!

vtjim 05-23-07 06:01 AM

Nice ride again today. 50F, calm wind. I saw a goose. More "serious" runners out. Marathon on Sunday.

Skipsjh 05-23-07 06:16 AM

It was a really nice morning ride today. I rode in next to a guy pretty much all the way from my house. We ended up talking about our jobs and he's a programmer just like me. I love randomly meeting and talking to somebody that you may or may not see ever again.

Mr_H 05-23-07 06:23 AM

This was the first time this week I've been able to come into work. Stupid cold :( Beautiful morning for it though, 60, light wind...light traffic. I'm still suffering from the cold, but the ride really got my blood flowing and the oxygen moving, I felt better out there biking then I do here in the office:)

etothepii 05-23-07 06:56 AM

Nice ride this morning. Great weather. Averaged nearly 17 mph.

Oh, forgot. I shower at work, but I forgot a towel today! I dried off with paper towels. Not too effective or convenient!

CaptainTandem 05-23-07 06:56 AM

Great commute in to work. Warm; summer-like. Saw some other commuters out and about because of the local Smart Commute week. Gas prices in the area are up to $3.65/regular. That, and the nice weather today, pushed a few more people onto their bikes for a commute in to work.

ModoVincere 05-23-07 07:02 AM

good commute. But I feel really tired this morning for some reason. Thank God its a long weekend coming up..I need a break. Hilton Head, here I come.

DataJunkie 05-23-07 07:42 AM

I'm back! Haven't ridden since last Thursday. Have not commuted since the Friday before last.
Vacation last week and spent Mon and Tues recovering from marathon related injuries. My right foot is still swollen a bit. Still, it was a good ride. Took my time and skipped the sprinting and intervals. God my touring bike needs work. I need to change the cables and rewrap the bars when I have time. The brakes positively stink.

pinkrobe 05-23-07 08:05 AM

I'm feeling sluggish these days - I think I need more red wine and steak. Oh, and it's supposed to snow tonight. WTF!? It's almost June! Global warming my ass!

Zeuser 05-23-07 08:07 AM

Not bad today. Weather was perfect and cagers seemed to be in good spirits for once. Oh sure there was the ever so present SUV with a soccer mom on a cell phone not paying attention to anything, but not too bad overall.

Saw some Canada geese, 2 parents with little yellow babies, on the side of the road. Nice.

mjw16 05-23-07 08:22 AM

Great ride today although I was certain I'd be wasted after yesterday evening's mountain biking. Even though my legs were sore and I was thick-headed, the cool temps woke me up and I felt really good. I even had a nice tailwind which almost never happens. Other than a great ride where my knees felt surprisingly good, there wasn't much out of the ordinary.

MyPC8MyBrain 05-23-07 08:24 AM

On the ride home I had to shoot the gap between storms. What did we do before we had access to the doppler radar on the internet ? Roads were a bit wet but i had a huge 30mph+ tailwind. It was a really cold wind with frozen bits of ice included nearing the end. I think I hit every light green, so with the push it was likely my fastest ride ever.

Was dragging bad this morning after playing poker too late last night. I just kind of wandered around in a fog getting ready then jumped on the bike. Bing! I was awake in a hurry.

The Garmin Edge I ordered with my bonus points from work arrived, so I installed that last night too. Looks like I'm back to computers again. I'm planning on taking my laptop on the RideTheRockies tour so I can upload my daily rides onto a blog. We'll see how that works out.

Dude, this is Calgary. (As I think you reminded ME a few weeks back :))

I took the bus this morning. I felt extra tired & sluggish myself - add that yesterday's headwind was continuing, and I just didn't feel up to it. I don't think I ate enough to replenish the fuel tanks last night.

lil brown bat 05-23-07 08:54 AM

Low-energy commute today (combination of a two-hour aikido class last night plus only five hours of sleep), but still a fast one, go figure. Like Buglady, I think I didn't refuel enough, and I definitely shorted myself on sleep. Live and learn...

HardyWeinberg 05-23-07 09:26 AM

Busy... had to drop both kids this am. Also, need to pick them both up early. In that mode, I leave the trailer at Thing 2's daycare and dash out to work by the most direct, most urban, route, and that is always a little bit more, uh, exciting, I guess is the word. One annoying guy cut me off turning right in front of me while dialing his cell phone. I can't believe hands-on cell-phone ban doesn't take effect until July *08*

Flimflam 05-23-07 09:50 AM

Rode out to the east with a more direct route, fastest ride to date and felt great, even though there was a steady headwind that made some parts toward the end a bit slower.

Ride home from there was beautiful and felt great - managed to hit 30mph with the aid of a slight downhill, smooth roads and slight tailwind. Chatted to a couple of guys, one guy was exclaiming his shock about how fast road bikes are, I agreed - seemed we're both newbies on them, the other guy I made a few comments about the girl that crossed the street and how surprised I was at this. Both these guys were riding good paces, but were red-light blowers, so I couldn't ride with them. Aforementioned girl on a bike went from the right side of Bloor W (very busy but usually slow moving arterial - main East/West street in Toronto) right across my (left, due to parked cars/intersection creepers) lane and across the opposing lane, too - without a single look, no mirror or anything. I yelled "LOOK BEHIND YOU!" as I passed and moved along - wasn't close to a problem, but this person needs to realise she's riding on a very busy street at 9pm and needs to watch the **** out.

Had a bunch of drivers pull out on me/try to pull out when trying to edge past left-turners, etc. - it never ceases to amaze me how little attention people pay to their mirrors/glancing over their shoulder. I have a decent (certainly enough to be seen) bright front light, a reflector and a hi-vis yellow vest on - I'm not exactly inconspicuous.

Had a pretty close call on the final leg before my street - I saw a car stopped (brake lights were on) at a stop, I was closing in at about 25mph (40km/h), so I looked around, it looked safe, so I thought I'd pass on the left - came about 4 inches away from being clipped, as it turned out this guy was stopped for so long because he was planning to turn left, only when I was passing him did I see his wheels start to turn, not even a hint of a turn signal - granted, however, this was definitely my fault/error and had I crashed I would've only myself to blame. Still a fast ride, didn't really stop to think about the "what if's" on the close call.

Ride in was a bit sluggish feeling, after having to go back to my house twice (luckily only from the end of my street) due to forgetting stuff. Couple of minutes slower than normal, slight headwind and having to foot-down stop for the left turn off Lakeshore into the Ex. grounds - overall good, though. Lots of bikes out this morning, which was great to see.

Kilted Commuter 05-23-07 10:24 AM

Nice ride in from Altamonte Springs to Lee Road , the jasmine -covered pine tree is still covered in blooms and smelling lovely, though once on the more major roads (436) traffic was hevier than I generally see, as I was running later than usual today.
Still, the short backroad and trail section was blissfully clear of traffic (by the Maitland Art Center, and onto the wooden bridge to Kennedy St)
Nice riding all in all.

mozgj 05-23-07 10:25 AM

My last commute was a week ago... It was a warm, sunny morning - which is rare - and there were almost no cars due to a lot of roads being closed in the area. So I was rolling along and enjoying the scenery, but due to this I lost concentration and my pedal - or front wheel, I don't remember clearly - hit the curb and I fell. Now I'm back here with some fancy steel plates and screws in my collarbone... no more bike commuting this summer :(

caloso 05-23-07 10:40 AM

Not much to say this morning, which I suppose is a good thing. I briefly thought about riding the race bike but left it in the garage in favor of the daily commuter.

sekaijin 05-23-07 11:28 AM

Commuted yesterday and today on the road bike. Getting in some longer detours on the way home to try and start training. I'm planning to do the Dairyland Dare (100K, very hilly) in August. I have no time to ride outside of commuting.

I swapped out my Bianchi Vetta Cosmos saddle to try a Bontrager Race Lite which is lighter - but it feels worse, I'll switch back.

Spring allergies really bothering me. Sneezing and eyes itching badly. Still worth it.

Wow crap, that's brutal. Here's to a speedy recovery, maybe you can catch the tail-end of summer!

I felt like death lightly warmed over myself, if it wasn't for the fact the buses suck for my commute would have done the same, slowest time in a long while. I thought I had a bug or something, I am sitting here struggling to keep my head up. It must be the Calgary weather getting us down. I mean, we just had a long weekend, and it snowed then too!!!

grumble, mumble, mumble.......

There's an old (and not very funny) joke about professional bike-racers and broken collarbones:

Why do professional bike-racers raise their hands to their shoulders when they cross the finish line?

Because they can't raise them any higher..... :o

Get better soon.

Hehe... I wonder how bad it was back in the days when surgical plates and the Ilizarov apparatus (which was originally made from bicycle parts, btw) weren't invented yet.

But I'm looking forward to amusing people by sticking whiteboard magnets to my chest! :D

rando 05-23-07 12:16 PM

awesome commute today! relatively cool for this time of year in AZ. didn't evenmind the headwind. :)

vtjim 05-23-07 12:35 PM

You keep that snow in the Great White North, eh hosers? It's 75F here in Vermont and I'm itching to ride home. :)

bikedaddy 05-23-07 12:35 PM

Well I just spent a week in Portland, OR (so many people on bikes!) and today was my first day back on the bike. Rear wheel is very out of true so I'll have to work on that.
