Change! Spouse decides he's a heart attack waiting to happen. We commute together this AM and I 'drop' him off and ride the last 8mi to work. He loved it!

especially the return trip. The hill that is (was?) my nemisis on the return trip, was a magnitude easier today. I guess its the warmer weather, doing it in <40F kinda sucked (literally!). It could also be that my legs & lungs are steadily improving and the 30 miles I did on Saturday probably helped too.

My wife wound up bailing on her commute due to sore butt from yesterday's 10 mile dry run. Maybe it will take tomorrow.

Got in a 12 km ride Friday, 12 km ride Saturday, and a 25km ride Sunday. Bit sunburnt now... great weather.

Rode in my sandals to work for the first time this year, coming home had a huge headwind - 30km/hr gusting to 50. Also it's recycling day, so all the cardboard and newspapers and blue boxes were getting blown all over the street. Stopped and turned one box of newspaper over to stop more from blowing out.

I can't keep my bike inside anymore (long story) so I bought another U-lock. One I take with me and the other lives at school. I figure since it's summer time and people happily (obliviously) leave their bikes locked outside with no more than a cable and a prayer, a bike that has a u-lock on each wheel, both u-locks also covering the frame will not be a thief's first target. One of the U-locks is actually pretty cruddy, but it has no label, so it could be a kryptonite The other lock is high quality. Security feels so nice.

Weather is absolutely fabulous.

Schedule continues to shuffle. 5 yr old is transitioning to no training wheels, so this am, rather than have me kind of guide him as he wobbled to school, we just walked there together. Then I biked to work. Nice, cool, nondescript.

Yep it's back to the same stuff. Yesterday was super though. I dodged the rain and got here just before the drizzle.

80F yesterday. Nice tailwind. 40s this morning, and the wind had swung around to my back for the ride in. Both commutes were fast & enjoyable.

My morning commute this morning was gorgeous. Crisp, in the mid 40's and pretty much calm wind. I'm getting more comfortable biking in roads on the way to work.

Got buzzed super close by a truck. Dip Wad driving said truck turned into his delivery driveway right in front of me. I followed and asked the guy to give me more room in the future, and told him how close he came to hitting me. His reply? "You should be on the sidewalk". My reply was to quote the law and then to tell the guy he was an a$$. Not my best moment, but damn. Your a driver for a large (I mean large) company and you don't know the freaking laws of the road?
Anyway, I road around to the front and spoke to the manager, who assured me he would take care of the situation. Just in case he was lying and trying to get rid of me, I reported the truck number to the rental company and also wrote an e-mail to the corporate HQ of the establishment being delivered to.
I did not appreciate this buzzing this morning.

It was great. I took the long way in, making a 4 mile commute into a 21 mile commute. The weather was just about perfect, cool enough for arm and knee warmers, but not needing tights or a long sleeved jersey. I had a minivan buzz me uncomfortably closely, but no other issues with drivers. I gave a thumbs-up to the W. Sac. P.D. who had just pulled over a red light runner.

I watched my odometer click over to 1000 miles. I've had it since November. And since this is my commuter, and I rarely ride this bike farther than 25 miles at a time, it says that I'm on this bike for a lot of short trips I guess.

When I walked into the building a co-worker asked how far I rode. When I said "21" he said "Miles!?! That's far even in a car!"

Yeah, I said, but not as much fun.

Nice commute today again. Uneventful.

I needed a vest over my short sleeves. I was ready to take it off the last 3-4 miles. There was lots of glass in the bike lanes. I noticed heavy cager traffic, especially on Sahara. I got the bonus of very little wind, but the breeze could be stiff this afternoon. I saw a few bikes this morning, but no backpacks/panniers.

First day commuting in three weeks. Three weeks ago today, I crashed on my bike and broke my collar bone. I have been riding since but today I finally convinced my wife to OK the commute. It is so fun to look forward to going to work. After the commute home tonight, we are off to sprint training, this is where I crashed. I am not back to full speed sprinting yet, I will be doing easy form sprints.

Second day on the new IRO! I replaced the stem, BB, Crank, chainring, rear cog, handlebars and brake levers last night before watching Heroes. Now it works. I threw on flat bars, added barends, and now that the left crankarm isn't coming off, I can pedal! I think I may invest in a post with more rear offset to get me a bit stretched out. I'm still surprised at how bad the bullhorns were - very uncomfortable, even after fiddling with the angle a bunch. The setup is basically the same as my Specialized conversion, but a bit more stable thanks to the longer wheelbase. It's also quieter, at least until I put fenders on.

Didn't Tyler Hamilton complete the TdF with a broken collarbone--and even win a mountain stage just a day or two after breaking it? C'mon, velocycling, man up!

I'm totally kidding. It's good to have you back commuting, but listen to your body (and your wife). If they're like mine, they're both wiser.

I drove.. it sucked.

I took it easy on the way in yesterday. Left a few minutes early and actually forced myself to slow down to spend more time outside enjoying the beautiful day. It felt very strange. I don't like it very much.

Punched it on the way back to compensate.

faced a 20mph headwind into work, now looking at some n-a-s-t-y storms for the ride back!
They just spotted a tornado about 15 miles from where I work...

Rode in with a migraine. Was seriously contemplating calling in.
It is really hard to ride up hills when any effort makes your head throb. Ended up crawling to the top.

Forgot to put the odometer on, so when I got home I stood by the front door for a bit until the mileage was caught up. I have a wireless and something just outside the buildings front door shoots the speed to 99.9 I normally only turn it on after I get through the front door and it doesn't take long to get out of range of whatever it is.

I went for it and had a blast!

on my commute home, i was cruising along, and passed a couple of guys who squeezed through the gate at the back entrance of my uni. nearly to that gate, i felt a tug on my right foot. my shoelace had wrapped around the pedal/crank and with each revolution, was squeezing tighter. in about 2 seconds my foot was tightly tied to the pedal. i frantically backpedaled to unwind, but alas, i was on a fairish hill....the bike promptly crashed to the ground. as i slithered around trying to free myself from my bondage, i heard the guys call, you ok? great, just great! oops. i'm sure they just assumed i was a klutz who can't ride a two-wheeler i guess it could have been a great ending if they rushed to my aid and rescued the damsel in distress, but as it was, i finally untangled myself, leaped back on the bike, and pedaled the HECK outta there!

No commute today. Forecasted rain (it's raining right now pretty hard) and I don't have my bike with fenders up and going yet.
