Gale force winds. Bridge closed to bikes, no commute.
|
No ride in today I have a long day ahead of me and have to carry a load of tools so i drove the truck, i'll be back tomorrow
|
Seems to be one of those days. Steady rain, errands to be run, no commute.
|
I planned today off, anyway. I've been doing a lot of running and a fair amount of commuting so I'm taking a down day.
On the way in I saw an idiot biker zooming along the sidewalks, flying across an intersection against the traffic, and flipping the bird to an unsuspecting motorist who dared to inch forward into the crosswalk to get a better view of incoming traffic. Great role model. |
Wind out of the south @ 21 Mph gusting to 31... I, of course, ride north in the morning. Should be a fun ride home... I'm just tired of fighting so hard to keep a 13 Mph avg on the way in :( I power up the hills thinking it will ease at the top only to get a face full of gust forcing me to drop a gear. THAT IS NOT HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK!!! Anyway, enough of the complaints. It could be worse, I could be trapped in a metal box and frustrated with traffic? And for all the difficulties, I really love the commute. And the wind just makes me enjoy the calm days even more :)

Sounds like no one else commuted today ? Very sad
Had a very satisying ride in this morning. I finally overcame my fear of The Hill from Lake Washington up to work. Really no big deal now that I've done it, but it had always looked like the kind of thing I'd rather have at the start of a ride than at the end. Now I've got that out of the way I've opened up a good number of new routes for the ride in, always good to have variety :D My wife did her first bike commute yesterday. She really enjoyed it, I think I have my first convert  |
I rode! Blasted into the office at 6:10 to drop off my backpack with my workclothes and then on to the trail to meet my workout buddy.
On the bike trail we came up on some mallards sitting in the middle of the path. I thought one of them was going to end up in my lap because when he flew up, our speeds matched for a few seconds and he seemed to hover right in front of me. Weird, beautiful experience to feel the breeze from his wings! (Once again, you don't get that kind of stuff sitting in your cage on Interstate 5.) Some splatters of rain early this morning but now it's beautiful. I'll cross my fingers for the end of the day. |
Great commute in. ' Strangely chilly. Here in Phoenix I should be starting to sweat hard after 20 miles at this time of morning. Nice ride though, I won't complain about cooler than normal temperatures.
|
I rode also, just haven't posted yet. But hey, Andy, we took that rain back to the Pacific NW for you. It's now cold and wet once again after our short bout with springtime sun. I expect a thank you, or maybe a nice pumpkin bread. . . I'm hungry for a snack. Commuting every day makes me ravenous - I eat everything in sight!
And like you Paul, I like the cooler temps and sometimes even rain (I guess I'm in the perfect location, eh?) - too much sun makes it hard to regulate the body temp. But I admit that occasional sun is nice too. |
ChezJfrey, I'm confused, then. We're cold and wet here, too. So maybe I owe you an apology but I still can't figure out where it's all coming from !!!
|
Retraction on not riding today. I had a morning meeting...ended up at home for lunch. Sky was bright so changed into biking clothes and headed to the office. It was 53F, no wind and no rain. Getting nicer out all the time so should be a nice ride home.

Well I been off the commute for the last week, as leaving work late last Thursday I hit a curb and hit hard on my right shoulder and hip. A week of painkillers, stretching, heat etc, and I felt good enough to bike in today. Of course the weather has been beautiful all week until today ;) Ah well it felt great to be back on the bike, even though the shoulder is still sore. And there was only a headwind for the last mile -- a rarity this spring.
|
Didn't commute today b/c the forecast was pretty bad (thunderstorms, cold, etc) but it turned out to be quite nice. So, I just left work a tad early and hopped on my bike for an hour when the sun was out.
:-) Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy . . . |
Back to a grey day, but at least it wasn't raining hard. I've been pushing the hills lately, so my legs are screaming. Today was one of my crazy days, after pushing my hardest on the climb, I coasted the down the last hill to recover and then sprinted the flat to work. I actually hit 24 mph and held it for a whole 0.1 miles before collapsing into a heap of fried jelly legs. I was riding my 24 inch wheels today, so 24 mph is a quick cadence. It felt good, even if my legs were still fried going home.
|
It was sunny today, but clouded over before I left. That pesky crosswind is back, but not with nearly as much force. Since i was a bit sore, I took the short route. Way too much traffic, going way too fast!
|
I'm still the heretic, jogging/walking, riding bus/train.
Ah, nostalgia...just like the old days. I'll hop back on the bike soon, once I prove to myself I can do whatever I please. (Well, once a week I still ride, anyway. But it's been two months, so I'd better get busy!) |
Good windy ride in, nice blue skies but I almost had an accident.
I came down the hill over a pedestrian/bike crossing which when I get to the other side means a sharp left past the barrier then immediate sharp right (within 10 feet) up a lane which is quite steep. I did the move and as I lifted my head up for the climb the sight which met me was three pairs of very shapely stocking clad legs, suspenders, extremely short mini school skirts and white school shirts tied halter style. This at just after 8 a.m! The girls (16 or 17 years old) were carrying balloons (I avoided the obvious retort on the basis I don't want to be arrested), and, seeing my shocked look and the fact I almost slammed the bike into the wall, one of them said "Last day at school". I passed more St Trinian style schoolgirls further on. Got my heart rate up I can tell you, but I'm too old for that sort of surprise first thing in the morning. |
Left the house at 5:15 this morning just after it stopped raining. The roads were wet all the way into work and I rode against about a 4 mph head wind. There was a lot of truck traffic that put out quite q bit of spray from the tires. All in all it was a fun ride and quite a fast one at that, it took me 58 minutes to cover the 18.5 miles on a loaded bike.

I had my first experience with an inconsiderate driver this morning. Some a-hole in a yellow ryder-like truck yelled BANG at me as he drove past me. Other than that it was a great ride - sub 26 minutes which is a new PR. Also I was sweating like a pig when I got to work - 91% humidity will do that to you :)

Fantastic weather today, mostly sunny blue, with enough streaks of clouds to give the sky character. Warm as well, didn't need my jacket- which of course I was wearing so I got a little hot. Very light headwind which was nice. Even though I was pretty stiff this morning, and I left late, I still had to spin an extra mile or two. I don't know if it is the fair weather bikers, or bike to work month, but definitely more traffic today than I've yet seen this season.

Beautiful weather!!! Couldn't ask for anything better, warm and sunny with fluffy whit clouds and a wind that seemed to push me in EVERY direction I rode! I took the long way in, incuding my first climb up Cemetery Hill, which wasn;t quite as steep and fearsome as memory exaggerated it. As I set off for home, a motorcycle convoy was just leaving town and I got several waves and grins. Just some sort of good feeling about being out there in the wonderful weather, outside of a car, I guess.
If possible, it was even nicer on the way home! Fortunately I was grinning like an idiot when a big junebug made a dive for my mouth, and he ricocheted off a tooth. |
A beautiful Mother's Day ride today. Big blue sky- not much traffic.
On the way home about 3 miles from the house the rain started in earnst. By the time the bike got put away, I was soaked. All in all, a day that made this upper 50 year old feel like a teenager. |
Got a flat on the way to my CPA exam today after running over a nail. However, it was probably a good thing. I had been a little nervous before hand, but the flat put me in such a bad mood that I forgot all about that and totally nailed the exam. :D

Well Chris, I guess it's flat tire day, I picked up a piece broken beer bottle on the way to work this morning. Wjen I rolled my bike into my office I heard the all familliar pssssssss and there it was sticking right out of the center of my new top touring 2000. First thing, before work I fixed her up and got her ready for the ride home, that's my first one for the year. Aside of the flat, I left the house on wet roads just after the night rain and rode in under heavy cloud cover with about a 2 or 3 mph head wind. Traffic was light and the ride was uneventful, I did learn that if you go into a corner on wet roads with a heavily loaded bike going a little on the fast side, the front tire will slide out, I didn't go down but I thought I was on the way. The whole week is forcasted as wet and cloudy so I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

Hi Folks,
Fairly good ride today, going slightly easy after yesterday's 52 mile ride into some truly unpleasant headwinds. It looked like rain when this morning but cleared held off intil I got to work, We've been getting showers all morning so the ride home may be unpredictable... The traffic lights that were out of action all last week have been fixed over the weekend..... and now the traffic is all backed up again. Go figure! Cheers, Ed |
"GREAT RIDE" this morning... Calm, cool, and fresh. After the tornado action at the end of last week, it was a welcome reprieve. And to top it off, a hot air balloon passed over me at what looked like about 100 feet. It looked just huge. The pilot hollered "HEY" at me :)
|
Great commute this morning...about 60F and sunny and the vast majority of the lights were green. It's going to be about 95F today, so this evenings ride home will be the first "warm" one of the year. I noticed quite a bit of glass on the road today. There must have been several parties this weekend that I didn't know about...
|
I had a great ride as well - that is until I realized I was half way to work and had forgotten my backpack :( I turned around, rode home, picked up the backpack and hopped in the car. I'll get in a ride after work this afternoon with Donna to make up for the missed commute.
