Reasonable ride home, was in the duldrums for a good 5-10 mins due to some frustrations at work, but I knew in my head the ride was going to help clear that :)
Had a guy riding in my bikelane, against flow, so I called out "Wrong way, dude!" when he veered onto the sidewalk to avoid me. Docs follow-up tonight means I won't be riding to the East end tonight, perhaps I'll go ride by the lake for a bit, but I'm probably going to stay in and rest my legs. |
Except for a music gig, I just had my first 7 days in a row without the car. I don't know why I didn't do this sooner, feeling great!

My morning commute was great, got to see many other bikers and other than a minor doubleback (ARGH, construction) it was an uneventful and fun ride. |
Fierce tailwind coming home, loved it! (first time in months, it's been a headwind for the longest time)
|
It was a nice ride both ways. I got a lot of honks and waves on the way in, which confused me until I got to work. Big picture of me on the front page with an article on Bike To Work Week. My employer printed out a press release about my winning Bike Commuter of The Year for my county and posted it on the bulletin board. My twenty minutes of fame. ;) The ride home was nice and quiet.

Still loving the road bike and the nice weather. Lots of jackass riders on the MUP though.

Hit a new personal best for top speed...as I was leaving work I pulled in behind a tractor/trailer and followed him onto the 55mph 2-lane road section of my commute...drafted him for a while and got up to 25.5 mph :) I know...not that impressive, but my commute is flat and I've never ridden this bike on anything I would consider a hill. The rest of the ride home I was so happy with my new land speed record I maintained 16mph+ except the one red light I had to stop at (4.5 mile or so commute). Just started commuting in late March and I can feel my legs getting stronger and my gut getting smaller every week.

Completely chickened out on the commute today furst time since before xmas.
Not sure what it was but I just couldnt face it.... What a wimp Now I feel fat, lazy and have no energy..... |
Excellent ride!! I made a small tweak to the cleat position on my riding shoes and that seems to have reduced knee pain and increased my speed a bit. Perfect weather-clear and ~55F this AM. My first day of not using the headlight, though it is still attached to the bike. I think I can probably strip it off next week and leave it off until Late July. Tonight for "Bike to Work Week" in RTP, there will be a gathering at a local restaurant from 5-7, which I'll stop in at. Hope to meet a few other commuters there. Today marks my 300th documented commute to work (I used to ride in 5-10 times per year, but didn't start documenting each occurrence until ~7 years ago). Not particularly impressive to ride 300 times in ~7 years, but still that's 7800 miles less driving I've done, and about 1 years worth of gasoline saved....I'll take it.

Raining & 50F. Headwind blowing off the lake. Some runners out and about. There's a marathon in 2 weeks and I think they're training.

I rode home it this
http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=70045 My wife now thinks I need profesional help. |
Yesterday was GREAT! I had to ride to school to drop off my tuition check for the summer semester.... Had a great tail wind on the way out there.... Conversly there was a NASTY head wind on the way to work.... I had to gear down and had my speed cut to about 1/3 of what it usualy is. Got my new headlight and blinky in the mail yesterday... Hey I could see last night!
On the way to work, one of the bank sign themometers said 87, and the other said 94.... I think it was just about in the middle... YEAH SUMMER! |
Today was a good ride. With my toe clips on the commuter I was able to get under 20 minutes for my 5.25 mile ride in. Good weather this morning.
|
my first work commute of the year is this morning...coming up. im excited.
11 miles, 8 of which are on niiiice crushed limestone paths. Last summer i rode every day on my hardtail mtn bike with slicks. This will be my first commute with a new, real road bike. I cant wait. |
Another great morning for a commute, temps in the mid 50s and a nice tailwind most of the way. Cut my commute by about half a mile since I left later than usual. I will make it up on the way home tonight, take the long way home.
|
I didn't manage to ride in again today, but that was semi by design. Since I'm new to commuting I don't have my office stocked with spare clothes yet, plus it was raining lightly here this morning and I don't have any rain gear. I took the opportunity to bring in more clothes today so I can ride tomorrow. Of course commuting 18 miles yesterday and doing a butt kicking 32 mile group ride directly after getting home from work yesterday doesn't make me feel too bad about giving my legs some recovery time. My wife and I are planning to go out on the tandem tonight though and I'll most likely ride in again tomorrow and possibly Friday.
So do many of you the commute on a regular basis do road/group rides as well in the evenings or weekends? I was just about dead by the end of the ride yesterday, but 50 miles was my longest mileage this year too. Rick |
Finally back on the bike today after 2 weeks of sinus infection (which is still there, but I'm sick of driving).
Took it easy so I would not start coughing and be unable to stop, not feeling like hacking up parts of my lungs on Windward Parkway. Most drivers were very well behaved, did have one try to right hook me, but she decided not too, after she passed me. She just stopped right in the middle of the road, and the idiot behind her had to slam on his brakes. How can you miss a 190 lb man on a bike, who's head is higher than the car that's trying to pass him? People can be so stupid...I don't get it. |
It was a little brisk this morning, but traffic was reduced from yesterday. The number of bikers on the roads keeps going up every day. Unfortunately, they aren't any better on their bikes than they are in their cars - forgive them FSM, for they know not how crappy they ride...
|
Had a wonderful commute today! Faster than ever before. Used to average between 18-22 km/h last year (a fairly hilly 7.3 km commute through the city centre). The past month, I've averaged 24-25 km/h. Today - 27 km/h!!! Wohoooo!!! :D
The ride home was sooo smooth. I caught the perfect "flow" through the city centre - the lights turned green just in time almost every time! Not much traffic at 3 pm either, so I didn't get held up by traffic. And the weather was nice too. Sunny, nice temp... :) |
on my ride in today I counted 53 fellow bike commuters on the pathway in, 4 musk oxen, 3 moose, and 1 large mutant squirrel (yeah, I ride by the zoo on the way in).
|
Couldn't decide if the rain was going to hold off long enough to get to work, but decided to give it a go. It was the right decision - for about half the trip. Then I got soaked. Good ride anyway and dried off soon enough at work.
Best part - dismounting and walking over the railroad tracks with all the cars stuck at the gate (train still a ways off). |

Some evenings I do a few miles of mountain biking - just when I feel the need to get dirty and to hone my skillz (ha-ha) enough to surive those occassional epic rides I take with friends on weekends. |

Though, given the recent string of good local weather, and number of cyclists emerging from winter hibernation, lately evenings on the bike path basically become impromptu group rides. Last night's commute home involved me pulling a pace line of bikes about six miles through Lexington and Arlington, MA at about 22 mph. I imagine that a bike with panniers can be fun to draft. |

I usually go on a Saturday morning shop ride that's about 50 miles. If I'm able to get out of the house early (which is becoming rarer all the time), I can get 70 or more before lunch. Tonight after work I'm going on a ride which will probably be 35 with a super-intense section. My only goal is to hang on to the lead group. My ride in was nice but not as long as I'd hoped. Dang creaky stairs woke my daughter so rather than head out early, I made waffles and hung out with La Contessa while her brother and mom slept. That was nice too. Rode the CF bike so I can head to the aforementioned group ride after work. Nearly got right hooked by a young kid in Daddy's nice pickup (you Californians and Texans know the kind I mean). I cursed him good but in hindsight I think he honestly misjudged my speed. Still a JAM, just not intentionally malicious. |
