Cold and wet today. No rain going in but chilly. On the way home, I was riding in 44 degrees with a steady rain. It gets a little chilly, but it does inspire me to ride faster. I made my usual 50 minute ride in 42 minutes.

Out was fine, coming back I was leapfrogging for three miles with a city bus. Cough choke wheeze gasp.
|
some lady honked at me while i ran a red she was waiting at... then as she passed me she was screaming and honking ... so at the next light (its LA--cars can't go anywhere) i tapped on her window and she started honking and yelling and giving me the finger -- it was like someone's fat grandma... so while i waited at the light i played charades.... i pretended i was a big & fat ... as the light changed she kept honking until she passed me... then i met her at a light again... it was about 10 miles in and i had a lot of phlegm so i just let it all out on her window.... never saw her again as she was stuck in heavy traffic.. lady must have had a bad day...

Bleh, had a horrible ride yesterday (no wind, but it was cold and my asthma kicked in, plus I don't think I ate enough on Wednesday so my muscles had no fuel; I crawled along in my lowest gear at a quarter impulse and felt sorry for myself...).
Took the bus today and got carsick. I can't win. |
Great commute and very very hot 40 degrees c easy
Alot of roads also pretty quiet due to the GP dropped past on the way home to see if I could see any action but it had just finished...... Well done Lewis Hamilton though |
Awesome commute home on Friday. Perfect route, perfect weather. I dressed in too many layers, but nothing terrible.
|
First time on the hybrid in over about a week. It's nice not having to worry about where to put things since it has 2 bottle holders, wald folding baskets and a seat bag. I've been putting some miles on the road bike getting it dialed in. what a difference!
Note to self: remove studded tires!! |
A basic ride is what I enjoy on a daily basis is what I strive.
|
rode today. not a bad ride, a bit slow and got rained on . only my second ride this year but it i will be riding gobs more.
|
just so hot its not funny this like the 8th day of over 37 degrees c
chucked a sicky and went on a day tour instead very nice |
commute today was same same... still tiring. hot though! it was at least 36 to 37 degrees C on the road. no extraordinary things happening.. im on a weight loss mission... its been an uphill battle but i think i will prevail. hehe

Anything more than a few degrees away from 0C, I have to convert. Hard for me to think of 37C (98F) right now. My ride in this morning was 1C (~34F).
No wonder you're all bonkers--you're on the wrong side of the world! :D |
Cool and windy ride in today. I left my feet/ankle warmers at work last week so my toes were a little cold. Other than that not a bad ride. Windy and mid 40s (F) for the ride home should be nice.
|
A beautiful St. Paddy's Day here in NC. Chilly start to the day, about 33F on my ride in to work, but a nice tailwind most of the way. It's supposed to be sunny and reach the upper 50s F this afternoon, so it should be a nice ride home as well.
Had one of my best commuting weeks in a while last week, 107 miles in 4 days. Won't be able to top that this week due the holiday on Friday. |
Nice ride in, but windy! 22 miles in 2 hours and 15 minutes, I can usually keep it to 2 hours. My feet were very cold; I need to get more thin socks so I can layer.
|
Today was my first day back on the commute after a week of vacation. I have to say, this whole commuting thing is really quite fun. It didn't hurt that my legs were completely fresh, I got a half-decent sleep and the roads weren't completely covered in ice after the weekend's snowfall.

didn't ride into today - cam down with Strep this weekend so I am contagious and working from home today. Back on the road tomorrow morning

Fast & uneventful ride this morning. Legs felt better than I expected after playing 3 hours of Ultimate yesterday in the wind and then getting little sleep last night. Maybe this "stretching" thing I tried yesterday (after hearing so much about it) really works. ;) |
cold and damp. What's up with this, I thought it was spring.
|
Raced Saturday and Sunday so my Monday legs felt like lead. That, and the north wind, meant that I was struggling to keep a 16mph pace, which meant I hit practically every red light on the way to work. Oh well, it's still better than driving.

Funny thing, from these message boards you might get the impression there are a bunch of bike commuters in the Raleigh-Durham area, but nothing could be farther from the truth. In the past year of commuting, I have seen another biker once or twice while commuting. Maybe someday we will all run into each other -- perhaps at the free breakfast in downtown Raleigh on Bike-2-Work Day (May 16).

newbie here.. i was walking this afternoon and saw a lady on a lady-bike nearly get pooped on a roundabout.. not her fault.. i feel bad for not stopping and telling her to report the driver and i could be the star witness.. But she should have been in the middle of her lane.. assertive riding!

I've seen one or two other commuters on parts of my route, but frankly my route is not for the faint of heart (for anyone who knows the area, it's Lumley Road to S. Miami Blvd, S. Miami Blvd to Alexander Dr., and Alexander to Cornwallis Rd.) so it's no surprise I don't see more. I'd love to live over by the American Tobacco Trail and have the opportunity to see more of us. I wish I could get over to the free breakfast in Raleigh, but it's many miles out of my way. |
Almost got doored this morning on the way in. Amazing how many people forget that opening their door effectively just covered the entire bike lane with a glass + steel barrier. Luckily I was quick to steer around it.
Yeah, the driver didn't seem to care that she could have killed me when I gave her a stare. I think she was on her way to the nail salon. I think that bothered me more than the actual start of seeing the door open. Other than that the ride was awesome. Nice, cool, breezy weather we're having here the past few days. Awesome for riding. |

yeah, I think I have only seen one myself. I am the first one at the bike rack in the morning and the first one to leave at the end of the day. In the morning there are no bikes, but when I leave there are 6 including mine (on a good day).
Commute in was good but coldest morning in a little while now - it think it was 40 when I left at 6 but seemed closer to 35 |
Up until the other day, I hadn't seen another bike at my rack since early December. One pretty nice day last week a guy rode his carbon Giant in, but that's it. In another month or so there will be 7 or 8 bikes out there, but I think it's safe to say that there aren't any other "commited" commuters. Hey, that's OK. At least they're riding some of the time...
Nice quiet ride in for me today: just a breath of a headwind at the top of the bridge, and a very pleasant 42F/5.5555556C. :D |
Tried a different route this morning and really enjoyed my ride. Usually I have to deal with a few killer hills but the new route has more gradual climbs. It does add about a mile but I think it's worth it plus there are less cars on this new route. I'm gonna take it home to see how it is and it may take over as my new usual route. Still cold out, upper 20s but no wind today.
|
Mist, fog, 35f but light traffic. Nice ride actually, I dropped a layer and felt a little chilly first couple of miles, but warmed up nicely after that. The mist and fog made visibility a bit dicey. I often had to look over my glasses to see. Glad I'm still running my flashers.
