Ah, karma...

After my perfect morning commute, I got a pinch flat and picked up a nail on the way home. After 20 mins buggering about in a pub car-park with my last tube-patch, I went inside and ordered up an air-strike - the missus eventually picked me up in her Volvo.

The bargirl was quite happy to let me use the phone though (my mobile's battery was dead and I had no cash on me) while staring at the various bulges in my lycra.

I almost felt uncomfortable... :D

Job... looks like I'm going to be job hunting as the Powers That Be want to put a lid on my section, which means no job changes for anybody and a lot more paperwork.

The weather isn't helping, though. (I am Barometra, Weather Wonder of the West! I can detect the tiniest change in atmospheric pressure as my eyeballs try to escape their sockets...)

So, anyone need a roving freelance whatever-I-am?

Hello fellow Utahrd. :) Where do you commute to/from? I had a hard this morning. I'm not looking forward to the hot commute home. At least it's dry.

mxwalker 06-14-07 06:34 PM

Pretty cold and very foggy this morning. At least it wasn't windy.

I regret I have no employment to offer you, on the other hand, if you find somewhere interesting and they have more than 1 position, let me know.:p

I have to be in tomorrow, or I'd offer to join you.

mwrobe1 06-14-07 07:36 PM

Damn...it was hot in that sun. Winds from the east at 7-10mph in my face for half the ride...argh! When I got home, I admit, I was beat. I need to hydrate myself a little better in this kind of weather.

Winter76 06-14-07 07:47 PM

I topped 40km/h on the way home with my fastest commute yet! Regularly my commute is 11-15 minutes, today it was 8!

kokomo61 06-14-07 08:25 PM

Awesome! It was drizzly this AM, but the cool weather made for a fast ride. I averaged 17.9 on the way in, and 18.6 on the way home for the 43 mile RT. Total RT average was 18.3, a new PR!

unhookt 06-14-07 11:25 PM

102 degrees farenheit.

vtjim 06-15-07 05:57 AM

^^^

60F for me. No wind. Sunny. A full week of glorious morning commute weather. Only saw a couple other cyclists going the other way. Someone on a bike came onto the MUP behind me but didn't keep up. Yesterday was a "slow day" so today I was moving along at a pretty good clip.

I saw some ducks, and another dead mole. And it was squirrel day, I guess. They were everywhere.

Skipsjh 06-15-07 06:16 AM

65F and Pretty clear for me. I rode in with my boss today, so I got some hill training in before work.

Flimflam 06-15-07 06:51 AM

Good ride home yesterday, tired but good ride in this morning. Nothing really to report.

evblazer 06-15-07 07:05 AM

Today was my ride fast to work day, I usually just cruise in, made it in record time. 36 minutes moving time for 11 miles. Doing my cool down lap around the parking lot stared off into space looking towards the building and came back to reality about 2 feet before a big concrete island in the parking lot.
Braked and swerved mostly around but the angle was too much and I went down. Couple gashes on the right leg but the bike is ok. :D Overflowing arkel panniers took the initial blow and came out without a scratch.
Overall it was a great ride. The looks I got walking to my desk. It isn't as if I was dripping blood on the floor people!

No meds here. After nothing worked to stop or even mitigate my jump-off-the-bridge migraines, in desperation I went to a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine. He took my pulse and asked a bunch of questions and gave me a big bag of leaves and flowers and bark and whatnot, told me to boil it up and drink the juice, two cups a day for a week. The stuff was incredibly foul, but it was worth it: I had one tiny migraine after that, then one start-of-a-migraine, and then no more. A year later I started having problems again (migraines are often seasonal, and late spring/early summer is peak season), and my practitioner had me take a milder and more form of the same medicine for a couple of weeks. Since then, never a migraine.

Nice commute today -- this stupid storm system finally moved off the coast, and it's a beautiful sunny day. Counted 20 other commuters on the way in. Can't wait for the ride home!

Spreggy 06-15-07 07:37 AM

It's a perfect morning here in the Roch, and the first week I've been able to go five in a row car free in a while. Not easily done with teenage kids' schedules to contend with.

Happy Friday!

Beautiful outside
So I stayed at home to "work"
While eyeing my bike

Don't forget: Crisis --> Opportunity
What do you do for a living? Is it oil and gas related?

pinkrobe 06-15-07 08:00 AM

No drama on the ride in today. No buses either.

I ride between Layton and Centerville. I agree...at least it's dry. The ride home last night kicked my butt. You'd think after all this time it'd be easy. I think it was the headwind that got me. :)

HardyWeinberg 06-15-07 08:35 AM

Nice and cool. On the drizzling side of misty.

Tude 06-15-07 09:43 AM

Came in late - loved my commute - in fact took a tiny little detour and enjoyed not having too much of a rush of traffic. Too nice to be inside.

Not oil/gas, no. Most recently I've been working as a secretary/receptionist at a school; my training is all over the map so I don't really have one thing that I do. I am very good at finding, synthesizing, and communicating information (ADHD works for me in that respect - I get interested in something and hyperfocus until I know everything about it), and I am very good with people. I am extremely bad at paperwork, filing and bookkeeping!

I do have a meeting with the top boss this morning to clarify, since everything got filtered through my immediate boss who has a raging case of ADHD. (Seriously, he's worse than ANY of the kids we work with, and ten times worse than I am).

Winter76 06-15-07 05:38 PM

I took a new way home, twice as long as my regular route and WOW! It was full of cyclists going REALLY fast. I usually ride at 24-26km/h and these folks were blowing past me when I was doing 31km/h. I can't wait till I'm in better shape so I can maintain a 35km/h pace for longer than minute or two.
