Pleasant commute this morning, a little cooler than usual with low humidity. I took it easy and barely sweated. The shorter days are really starting to become apparent. I left about 5 minutes earlier than usual, and it was nearly dark. A big old orange basketball of a sun was just coming over the horizon when I got to work. I didn't ride yesterday after 6 days straight and my legs appreciated the rest day.

25-30MPH headwind blowing off the lake this morning. I plowed through it and made average time. Kind of surprising. It's 70F and humid. Weather says low 90s today. Yikes. I goofed around with the GPS I mentioned in another thread. Its speed matched my bike computer speed, so that's good.

Passed a single speeder on a downhill and fought the urge to ridicule.

Then I was being a good "vehicular" biker on campus by not flying by all the cars stopping for students in crosswalks. Of course they didn't care to jaywalk in front of me when I had a left turn light. About 2 minutes later was waiting behind a car again and heard a squeal of tires and realized that I was 2 inches from being rear-ended. Closest thing I have to an accident in 4 years of commuting.

Head was woozy since I played Stranglehold till 1:00 am, and then my 4-year old jumped on me at 6:00 am, and told me he wanted to play. I really need some anti-Tequila time this morning. The weather on the ride in was nice and cool though. I just hope the air clears up today from the local wildfires.

Headwind both ways yesterday, and a strong one on the way in this morning. But didn't get caught in the rain. Only one other bike on the rack at work, so I'm guessing the others were scared off by the rain forecast.

I saw my breath this morning for the first time in months. Fall is comin'! I shortcut through the alley to avoid some traffic, then made lights 1, 3 and 4 with no problems. I think they have changed the timing on lights 2 and 4...

Stayed home yesterday with a short (hopefully) bout of flu. So I took it very easy this morning. And it was a nice mellow ride in.

I gave an ironic thumbs-up to a JAM in a craptastic Lincoln Town Car. She blew right through a stop sign at the top of the park. Obviously the irony was lost on her because she waved back with a big cow-like smile.

I checked radar this mourning, looked clear. So I rode in. Half way into my route it started to rain hard. First time I got caught in the rain when it was dark out. Had a hard time seeing the road because I wear glasses. Next time I will avoid riding in the rain at night.

It feels so good to be back on the bike after being sick for a couple days. The bummer is that I had just done a drive-train upgrade to increase my top-end speed on DH's. I hit 48.9. It's good to be back.

Have ridden every day this week and feel very good. Morning temps are getting really nice into the 50's.

Went out for a ride during my lunch hour and it was headwind everywhere I turned to. But it's Friday and sunny so I'll take it.

Stiff headwind this morning. Almost got to work when the skies dumped on me and I got totally soaked. Changed my clothes/shoes and clean/lube the chain.

For the Lake Champlain crew...

The morning was beautiful. I rode along the lake at 5 am, too early for the sun to rise, but you could see the waves on the lake, feel the breeze (head wind.) But I tell you it was a wonderful way to start the day. Overall 15 miles each way.

In contrast I almost freaking died on the way home. It was soooooo hot... And a strong head wind. Why does it change directions like that? I was so happy at work. By mile 7 I was wiped. I think it was in the 90's..

Anyway, nothing that a cold beer and a good nites sleep can't fix... i'm hoping.

Nice ride this morning. Getting colder already (10C) Time to buy a headband to keep the ears warm.

Bought some running pants (semi tights) and a nice polyester/spandex shirt yesterday. Perfect timing, just in time for the cold.

Nice ride this morning. It was a little humid. I saw 5 other riders on there way somewhere. I started thinking Painiers (sp?) might not be a bad idea.

annoying...

I put my bike on a rack on the bus for a portion of my commute (to bypass a really steep, busy, dangerous hill), and this morning the bus didn't have a rack (90% of them do have racks). The bus driver was kind enough to wait for me while I ran my bike back into my house, but now I don't have a bike for my afternoon commute

Some sprinkles and a bit of a tailwind. Took it easy, did a century yesterday, thought I'd see if an easy ride helps the sore legs more than a day off. Besides traffic has just been a nightmare, driving is now only 10 minutes faster than riding.

Last week there were 4-5 other riders every day. Now back to the much more normal zero.

Cool and refreshing ride in. Headwind at around 10-15mph for the morning commute. Legs are a little sore but all in all the 29 miles were ok.

I got up a bit late today, and made a couple of questionable moves in traffic. Oh well, all's well that ends well.

Nothing to report. Got the bike tuned up Saturday (I thought MS 150 weekend would be the perfect day to do it, as all the cyclists would be out of town. I was wrong....the store was packed) which meant a much quieter, easier ride than last week.

I had a good ride in this morning. I had put on a new rear flasher, and a third eye mirror. Now I have one flasher that is up and down on the rear rack and the new one under the seat that flashies from the lieft and and right. The mirror worked out great! I will not be getting as many stiff necks. I puchased a new "blackburn System X3" over the weekend, but it was DOD. The LBS did not have any more. I called Blackburn, and they are going to send me a new battery. The one from the X6!! They got some bad X3 batteries out there. I'm shipping the dead one back tonight. So if I could pick up the other light that makes up the X6 that would be great.Dean

blew a flat on my rear tire on saturday night (15 km from home!) and the only store in town that sells tubular glue is closed on sunday. rode the 'backup bike' today. ugh.

on the infamous (to me, at least) 12th avenue almost got doored. did a neat zig around it. the driver jumped out of her car and chased me on foot 20 meters to the stop light to apologize.

how about that!
