Portland Oregon SUCKED this morning. I had a class this morning at 9 AM, a 4 hour writing class. The ride was slow, and VERY wet and windy; the worst part though was sitting in my english class for 4 hours with SOAKED jeans! Im heading out today to get some rainproof bike pants today. i was ridiculously miserable at school.

lucky i have no commute today the weather is crap... rain and very windy
|
Fun commute today - I got trapped at the Santa Clause Parade and forced to march along. :D (No, seriously, they won't let me through at the street I meant to take, even though they let a streetcar through, so I had to walk until I found a way to get out, which took quite a while, actually). Got some free candy.
|
windy on the way in yesterday and chilly. wind in the face on the way home.
Off to commute on a gorgeous day today though.:) |
Great ride in today. I do so enjoy reading all the stories of cold weather prior to heading out into a southern hemisphere summer!
Today was my first proper ride with my new shoes, and they are much more comfortable. Whilst getting the cleats set up on them I also had a monkey around with the handlebar angle and seat angle, I think it feels more comfortable. Amazing what a difference degree or two of adjustment makes. Time will tell if it's stays confortable on a longer ride. But this morning it felt great, and I made good time. |
Great ride in brisk conditions here in Virginia - about 35F when I left this morning. Made it in reasonable comfort with cycling shorts, base layer + long sleeve jersey + vest up top. A little wind and mist in the air, but as always an invigorating start to the day and (HOLIDAY) week ... commuting by bicycle ROCKS!
|
First commute back from a 2-week vacation. 18F/-8C degrees. I do this every year: I got 100 yards down the road and realized I should have worn turtle fur on my neck. Otherwise I was comfortable.
Wife and I went to Scandinavia. I have to say, the cycling infrastructure in both Stockholm and Helsinki is amazing. They even have traffic lights for bike routes. Pretty cool... From what I could tell, most riders were obeying them, too. ;) |
45F and a little bit of a headwind. I'd taken the weekend off. Still learning not to overdress... T-shirt, long-sleeved T-shirt, and light windbreaker. Took off the jacket 2/3 of the way through.
Saw a couple of other bike commuters... one lady I passed with a smile while heading downhill; she caught up with me at the last street interchange and blew past me on the uphills. |
-6 (20F). Getting cold out there :(
Not much wind, but going down a hill I tested my brakes and the right lever was frozen. Loosened it up in time to stop safely but for the rest of the ride I was periodically checking both levers to make sure they function. I did not check if the derailer worked. I stayed in one gear (the harder of the two I use) the whole ride :D |
Yesterday was different. Thick tule fog in the morning, so much I was wiping my glasses every minute or two. When I got to work I found 2 other bikes there. I have always bee the only bike commuter, so I was thrilled. Hopefully I won't be the only one again when it gets cold and rainy.

22F when I left this morning. I was sluggish but not sure if I should blame the cold, the wind, my lack of sleep or the fact that I missed riding the end of last week :)
On the plus side it looks to be a low-traffic week. |
-8C, but not bad at all. I caught and passed my neighbour on the way in. He was driving, but couldn't match my acceleration. :D
|
60+ deg, light fog, no wind, Even lighter traffic.
|
nice and cool today, I love mornings like this, really wake you up. I got passed by the same impossibly tall guy who rides like he's on the Tour.

First day after a week off to visit in-laws in Oregon.
I have to say, I'm VERY impressed with our PDX brethren: they've got the fenders, the lights, the clothes, and most importantly the can-do attitude to take the lane and move with traffic. |
Bit of a depressing ride in, my family took off back home after spending 3 weeks here - I'm missing the homeland a bit today ;) Other than that though, great ride in - spent a great deal of time riding behind/with/in front of an eBike - seems they do around 19/20mph which wasn't too bad to hold - tricky in places, though.
Can't wait to get out there again though, the ride/concentration work gets my mind off wanting to just fly home ;) :p |
I was running late today (reeeeeally didn't want to get up this morning), so went through some red lights, which is quite atypical for me. Still wasn't too fast though because my knees have been injured for two months now (not biking-related), but made it on time... pretty much... :)

Beautiful ride today. It rained hard in the night, but by morning was blue sky and sunshine, but not too hot. Lovely breeze.
Ay one point I had some idiot woman in a sports car apparently aggravated that I was on the road; whilst waiting at the lights she pulled up next to me and started pulling into my lane right next to me (I was stopped). After we took off she burned past me real fast, but I caught her at the next lights, filtered past and blew her away from the line. Did the same thing at the next lights, and then stayed well ahead of her until I turned. You might have a fancy car, missus, but I'm faster through the city than you..! :p |
First day raining in 2 months. It was raining all day.Yesterday changed tires, removed the 26x1'25 slicks bountrager wawe warrior for ballon (really fat 2,35) tires and full fenders ,a diferent bike for a diferent ride......expecting to take it eeeasyy and enjoy the rain.Rain gear:Gill alpha event jacket from Chain reaction england, long tights and waterproof boots.and some clothes to change at work.
Ride in it was cool, those fat,fat tires....so smooth and so slow, what was yesterday thin, slim fast and hard became today heavy,i was riding an elephant bike.Or a hog.And it was Ok. Back home got hit by a car in a croosing.I was going strait and the car behind me, which was going to turn right, decided to overpass me and at the same time turn right.Very creative manouver and spectacular.I landed on my butt in slow motion at usual.Nothing broke, the jacket ripped, bike fine. the woman of the car very impressed and nervous. |
4:30am 46f slight trace of drizzle, no big deal. aftn 52f Tonight, riding home 55f warm front moving in. That means rain sometime soon. Oh well. Gettin' psyched for Winter. I've been watching Winter Cycling videos on YouTube. Inspirational, to say the least.

Cloudy when I left. We have had almost no rain, and I did not really think it would, so I left without the Marmot jacket and rain pants. As I was riding, the air felt pretty moist so I turned back around and got the rain stuff. I was hit with a little sprinkle but not enough to stop and put on the jacket. I was dry by the time I got to school. Ride home was nice, and drivers were polite. I'm trying to make sure I signal whenever appropriate and the drivers seem to appreciate it.

no commute today, I have the week off! But I did get out in the mid afternoon sunshine on my vintage spaceliner with a boombox mounted on its rack, and took a rock-and-roll cruise through the hood. No better way to spend the day off in my opinion.
