i am thinking of getting the same or simular airless tires/tubes. these would be for commuter, to build endurance, and enjoy coventional tires on club rides or tours when i have more time.
i look forward to hearing how these tires work for you, pm if you prefer .

Another beautiful ride home from work through Riverside state park. The pics are in the Nine Mile area of the Centennial Trail and the Spokane river just before the Nine Mile dam.

Wow. What a pretty lake. And what a nice path to ride. Lovely.

Didn't do much riding today. Rode to class and back, and then it started raining, so I used the car for the next two trips. Will drive tomorrow as well due to the rain.

breezy and overcast on the way in to work, besides fighting the wind the whole time it was a good ride. the way home the wind was somewhat at my back and a solid drizzle the whole way home. gotta figure out some rain gear pretty soon i guess. oh and as i was passing some pedestrians i was downshifting and slowed down a bit to not rip they're clothes off as I flew by them and in between gears i felt a clunk and my pedals were spinning free, i was hoping i didn't bust my chain (it was too dark to tell for sure) so I had to coast into a gas station to inspect. turned out my chain just popped off my sprocket *whew* i was glad to see that and then laughed as i remembered the couple gasp because i has passed them.

Commuting is fun.

Great pics!!

My commute was great up until near the end where my front tire went flat!

Had a good commute today. First below 30 degree ride this year. New Target soft shell jacket works awesome. Anyone have suggestion on a face mask that keeps you warm, does not suffocate, and does not fog up your glasses let me know.

funrover 10-23-08 11:27 PM

I have used the Pearl Izumi (sorry for spelling) for that last few years and it works great for me. It is the full face cover and I just make sure I tuck it into my jacket. when I exhale the warmth blows into my jacket... really nice! I will try to find what I have!

I also wear this under my snowboard helmet when I go, I recommend it!

A little wet, but not soaked.

Nice ride in this morning: ~39F, call it 4C, clear and calm. A few minutes later than usual but traffic still light.

Took off a little early yesterday to run an errand which tacked an extra 6 or 7 miles onto my normal commute and I actually felt a bit stronger for it this morning. The errand amused one of my co-workers. He's a guy about my age (53) who's a confirmed and committed petroleum-burner (both on land and on the water) who I frequently refer to around the office as, "Oil-spill Bill." He was pretty tickled to learn that I was riding my bike to the Motor Vehicle Administration to get my Driver's Licence renewed.

The real punch line, though, was when I told him I was going to loudly complain about the fact that the MVA doesn't have a bike rack. :D

Nice ride in this morning...I left about 10 minutes earlier than normal and took a easy cruise in.

23F and very foggy for the first half. Then, the sky slowly turned red as the sun rose, and it made all of the fall colors really pop...all while looking over fields covered in frost. I don't think a camera could have caught all that was going on.

Jeebus, Remember to look at the weather in the morning. I damn near overheated.

yesterday me and my girlfriend carpooled, whenever she has a matching schedule to mine, she likes to carpool. I cyclo-commute the rest of the time, which is about 90% of the days. Wednesday, it was 25 degrees out when I was riding. and while I wasn't freezing, I was colder than I'd like, so Today, being the next day Id ride, I put on some long socks and long underwear, figured it would help keep me warm. Well, it did.

But it was always 42 degrees. welp. I had to really monitor my work output to make sure I didn't start sweating up a storm.

Lesson learned.

Nice and quiet ride in to work. Still dark outside. Temp. was about 50 degrees. I had some time so I went down Jefferson to window shop the furniture stores. stopped at my donutshop for a bottled water since I forgot mine this morning.

Upper 20s F, clear, no wind. Saw bmike going the other way. :) More geese hanging out in the water.

I passed a guy, and later he caught up at a red light. I dropped him on a hill after that, and then when I got to my building, he came in too. Turns out he works for the same company. :o

Yesterday I was playing cat & mouse with a woman on a road bike. She was pretty quick. :p

dcrowell 10-24-08 07:51 AM

Low 40s, steady rain. Today's commute was all the way (16.5 one way) and on the recumbent. I was testing out my new wet weather gear.... and I still need to make some adjustments.

I'm still glad I rode. The look on people's faces when I got to work dripping wet on the bike was great! I just hope my clothes dry out before I have to put them back on to go home.

jpdesjar 10-24-08 07:53 AM

chilly ride but i wore my snowboarding mits today so my hands were quite warm the entire ride and my feet were happy too, i saw a few other people out on bikes this morning not sure if they were all commuting or not

jgrendel 10-24-08 07:55 AM

My coldest commute ever today (only 41F, so most of y'all probably aren't impressed). Layered up and was a bit chilly on the descents and arrived a little sweaty. Need to refine the getup to find the right balance.

The ride (all 6 miles of it) felt pretty hard actually. Maybe I'm tired or maybe the cold affects me more than I expected.

harleyfrog 10-24-08 07:55 AM

Drizzly weather this morning. Didn't ride, but then again, I'm heading to New Orleans for Voodoo Experience after work, so it's all cool. :thumb:

Ka_Jun 10-24-08 08:59 AM

Damnit...lost indexing on my grip shifter for my rear derailleur. Cold, dark, cold rain expected on the way home, tonight.

pinkrobe 10-24-08 09:49 AM

I was flying solo today, as my wife was at an apres-work industry party and left her bike at the office. The construction detour was gone, and it was smooth sailing all the way in. I'm hungry.

HardyWeinberg 10-24-08 10:31 AM

<40F, foggy. No kids today, my wife has a roadtrip and the 7 yr old's school is closed today so she drove them both to their respective destinations. Yesterday was my first commute for a while w/ both kids, not just one or the other.

Was running late this morning and rushed the commute as a result. Much less traffic on the road at 8:30 than at 7:30, which was a pleasant change. No temperature difference though.

oh, she wasn't driving, she was in the passenger seat.
not to say the driver wasn't too........trust me, more people are driving impared than you may realize, all you can do is be cautious on your bike, which you should be doing anyways

don't wanna start a pot discussion, though, i just thought it was an unusual & interesting thing to happen on the way home.

cobrabyte 10-24-08 01:08 PM

going home yesterday was pretty hum-drum, bit of a headwind, but after reading how everyone is freezing, I can't complain much.

as far as the commute today? wet. it rained, i got wet, my stuff got wet.

I need to get a watertight something to carry my stuff in. i just cant justify spending over $100 on a roll top chrome bag (the only one i like that i've seen)

maybe I'll get some of those giant zip-lock bags & put my stuff in that & then put that in my trusty EASTPAK backpack I've had for like 15 years

$5 vs. $150...I'm sold

buttmonkey 10-24-08 06:11 PM

Played BART tag today. Left the house and rode to Lake Merritt BART station (2 miles). Took BART to Berkeley and rode to the bike shop and then to Pinole (about 15 miles). Stopped midway in Albany for breakfast at a little 5 stool counter that's been recommended to me. Great!

Return trip? Rode Pinole to N. Berkeley BART (about 13 miles) BART to Fruitvale Station and then biked home (2 miles).

Wore shorts and a tee today. Tennis shoes. Temps in the mid 70's to low 80's.

dcrowell 10-24-08 07:24 PM

Ride home was dry... That was unexpected. Overall pretty pleasant. Overcast and dark, but that just made stand out more with my lights.

Got yelled at a few times to get out of the road. I took the lane a bit more than normal. Nobody drove stupidly though.

icemanbb 10-25-08 02:46 AM

First time back on the bike since the crash two weeks ago. I only did the ride home (4.5 miles) to see how the cracked rib is doing. No problems breathing on the hills but I could tell my conditioning had suffered a little. Overall it's great to be back on the bike.

Ricekilla 10-25-08 07:45 PM

Rode to work it was sunny and warm this morning. Just a hair over 7 miles one way. At the end of the shift it started raining hard and I wasnt prepared. Had to get picked up, was looking forward to the ride back.:(

daredevil 10-25-08 08:30 PM

25 degrees above average on the ride in, gotta love that!

Discovered the front tire flat as I was about to come home. The Topeak Road Morph, while one of the better pumps out there, is still a pain in the ass.

girljen 10-26-08 11:56 AM

I drove today due to a nasty cold. :(
The weather was beautiful on the walk to the car, too, just to add insult to illness.

buttmonkey 10-26-08 06:04 PM

Sunday commute to nowhere. Oakland to Alameda and back..sort of.

Not looking forward to the rain. I know it's coming and I should get prepared. No fenders yet, those I'll get this week. What about rain wear? It doesn't ever get cold where I'm at, but it can hammer down the wet. Is Gortex the leader in lightweight, breathable or are there better fabrics out?
